Uplift response of symmetrical circular anchor plates has been evaluated in physical model tests and numerical simulation using Plaxis. The behavior of circular anchor plates during uplift test was studied by experimental data and finite element analyses in loose sand. Validation of the analysis model was also carried out with 50 mm, 75 mm and 100 mm diameter of circular plates in loose sand. Agreement between the uplift responses from the physical model tests and finite element modeling using PLAXIS 2D, based on 100 mm computed maximum displacements was excellent for circular anchor plates. Numerical analysis using circular anchor plates was conducted based on hardening soil model (HSM). The research has showed that the finite element results gives higher than the experimental findings in the loose sand.
This work presents the experimental and finite element analysis results for the free vibration of 4 edges clamped, isotropic square plates with 2 collinear circular holes. Natural frequencies of finite element analysis are obtained for the complete square plate, the square plates with a central circular hole and the square plates with 2 collinear circulare holes. And natural frequencies are experimentally measured for the complete square plate, the square plate with a central circular hole(d = 150 mm) and the square plates with 2 collinear circular holes. Agreement between experimental and FEM results is excellent. Mode shapes in special case are presented. The conclusions of the study are as follows. There is little variation of nondimensional frequency parameters for the first six mode when the aspect ratio of circular hole is less than 1/6 in the isotropic square plates with 2 collinear circular holes. And the first nondimensional frequency parameter doesn't vary as the aspect ratio of circular hole increase.
Studying the propagation characteristics of waves in circular plates has important engineering value. In this paper, graphene sheet reinforced foam (GPLRMF) circular plates are taken as the research object, and the propagation characteristics of shear and bending waves in the structure are analyzed. In the process of research, we assume that the material properties are closely related to temperature, and use the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) to establish the dynamic model of GPLRMF circular plates. Considering the simply supported boundary conditions, the relationship between phase velocity/group velocity and wave number was obtained through Laplace transform. Subsequently, the influence of material and geometric parameters on wave propagation characteristics was analyzed, and the results showed that the porosity coefficient and temperature had a significant impact on the characteristics of wave propagation in circular plates.
This paper aims to investigate the free vibration analysis of FG plates, taking into account the effects of even and uneven porosity. The study employs the Hellinger-Reisner functional and obtains the element's bending stress and membrane stress fields from the analytical solution of the governing equations of the thick plate and plane problem, respectively. The displacement field serves as the second independent field. While few articles on free vibration analysis of circular plates exist, this paper investigates the free vibration of both rectangular and circular plates. After validating the proposed element, the paper investigates the effects of porosity distributions on the natural frequency of the FG porous plate. The study calculates the natural frequency of thin and thick bending plates with different aspect ratios and support conditions for various porosity and volume fraction index values. The study uses three types of porosity distributions, X, V, and O, for the uneven porosity distribution case. For O and V porosity distribution modes, porosity has a minor effect on the natural frequency for both circular and rectangular plates. However, in the case of even porosity distribution or X porosity distribution, the effect of porosity on the natural frequency of circular and rectangular plates increases with an increase in the volume fraction index.

An analytical method for the free vibration of two circular plates coupled with a fluid was developed by the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The two plates with unequal thickness and diameter are clamped along the cylindrical vessel wall. It is assumed that the fluid bounded by a rigid cylindrical vessel is incompressible and non-viscous. The wet mode shape of the circular plates is assumed as a combination of the dry mode shapes of the plates. The fluid motion is described by using the fluid displacement potential and determined by using the compatibility conditions along the fluid interface with the plate. Minimizing the Rayleigh quotient based on the energy conservation gives a eigenvalue problem. It is found that the theoretical results can predict well the fluid-coupled natural frequencies with excellent accuracy comparing with the finite element analysis result.
The axisymmetric free vibrations of transversely isotropic magnetoelectroelastic laminated circular plates are studied. Based on the three-dimensional governing equations of magnetoelectroelastic medium, the state space equations of laminated circular plates are obtained. By using the finite Hankel transform and rendering the free terms left by the transform in terms of the boundary quantities, the solutions of the state space equations are given for two kinds of boundary conditions. The frequency equations of the free vibration are derived using the propagator matrix method and the boundary conditions at top and bottom surfaces. By virtue of the inverse Hankel transform, the mode shapes are also determined. Since the solutions strictly satisfy the governing equations in the region and the boundary conditions at the edges, they are the three-dimensionally exact. Finally, the natural frequencies of such plates are tabulated and compared with those of the piezoelectric and elastic plates in the numerical example.
An experimental investigation has been conducted to determine the effectiveness of base shield plates in reducing the drag of a rough circular cylinder in a cross flow at Reynolds numbers in the range $3{\times}10^4{\leq}Re{\leq}10.5{\times}10^4$. Three model configurations were investigated and compared: a plane cylinder (PC), a cylinder with a splitter plate (MC1) and a cylinder fitted with base shield plates (MC2). Each configuration was studied in the sub and supercritical flow regimes. The chord of the plates, L, ranged from 0.22 to 1.50D and the cavity width, G, between the plates was in the range from 0 to 0.93D. It is recognized that base shield plates can be employed more effectively than splitter plates to reduce the aerodynamic drag of circular cylinders in both the sub- and supercritical flow regimes. For subcritical flow regime, one can get 53% and 24% drag reductions for the MC2 and MC1 models with L/D=1.0, respectively, compared with the PC model. For supercritical flow regime however, the corresponding drag reductions are 38% and 7%.
In this paper an asymptotic iteration method is adopted to analyze non-linear free vibration of reticulated circular plates composed of beam members placed in two orthogonal directions. For the resulting linear ordinary differential equations in the process of iteration, the power series with rapid convergence has been applied to obtain an analytical solution for non-linear characteristic relation between the amplitude and frequency of the structure. Numerical examples are given, and the phenomena indicating hardening of such structures have been presented for the (immovable or movable) simply-supported and clamped circular plates.

While the vibration of circular plates were considered by many researchers, rather less attention is given to elliptical plates. In the present paper, the Rayleigh-Ritz mothod is used to obtain an eigenvalue equation for the free flexural vibration of thin elliptical plates having the classical free, simply suported or clmped boundary condition. Circular plates are included as a special case of the elliptical plates. Products of simple polynomials are used as the admissible functions and a recurrence relationship facilitates the evaluation of the necessary integrals. The analysis is developed for rectilinear orthotropic plates but the numerical results are given for isotropic plates with various aspect ratios.
This paper presents an experimental investigation into the effectiveness of using carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) and steel plates to repair damaged reinforced concrete (RC) beams with circular web openings at shear zones. It highlights the effectiveness of externally bonded CFRP and steel plates in repairing damaged RC beams by analysing the repaired beams'load capacity, deflection, strain, and failure mode. For the experiment, a total of five beams were used, with one solid beam as a control beam and the other four beams having an opening near the shear zone. Two beams with openings were repaired using inclined and vertical configuration CFRP plates, and the other two were repaired using inclined and vertical configuration steel plates. The results confirm the effectiveness of CFRP and steel plates for repairing damaged RC beams with circular openings. The CFRP and steel plates significantly increase ultimate capacity and reduce deflection under the openings. The inclined configuration of both CFRP and steel plates was more effective than the vertical configuration. Using an inclined configuration not only increases the ultimate capacity of the beams but also changes the mode of failure from shear to flexural.
