  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to compare the effect of Chuna manual treatment and Chuna manual treatment with self muscle energy techniques on patients with pelvic malposition Methods : Random allocation was done. We used Chuna manual treatment to control group and Chuna manual treatment with self muscle energy techniques to experimental group. These patient's pelvic malposition were checked by Leg length analysis, measuring Innominate measurement length, obturator foramen size and height of femur head. Results : 1)After the 3 weeks treatment, patients' inequality of leg length and Innominate measurement length were significantly reduced. 2)There was no significant difference between control group and experimental group. Conclusions : Chuna manual treatment and Chuna manual treatment with self muscle energy techniques are considered to be effective and useful in patients with pelvic malposition. But there was no significant difference between control group and experimental group.

  • To clarify the effect of chuna treatment reached at neck pain, the faculties of Oriental Rehabilitation Medicine in Hospital of Oriental Medicine, Kyung Hee Medical Center had carried out chuna treatment for 72 patients who had neither structural defectiveness of cervical spine nor neural injury but simple soft tissue damage among people who visited the hospital with the neck pain since Jun. 11, 1997 to Dec. 31 in the year. The way of study: 32 out of 72 patients were treated by acupuncture treatment going with chuna treatment (calling 'Group A') and the other 40 patients were cured by only acupuncture (calling 'Group B'). The treatment in both Group A and B were performed 6 times totally at intervals of a time for 2 days. To judge the effect of treatment, both method-visual analog scale(VAS) and ,check of ROM-were performed each time. The results of study 1. Each one in Group A itself, according to the number of the treatment in progress, showed the note worthy decrease of pain and improvement of range of motion(ROM) in the cervical(P <0.001). 2. Each one in Group B itself, according to the number of the treatment in progress, showed the note worthy decrease of pain and improvement of range of motion(ROM) in the cervical(P <0.001). 3. In the degree of improvement in pain, the Group A who had been treated by both acupuncture and chuna treatment at the same lime showed some meaningful decrease in pain compared to the Group B with acupuncture treatment alone(P <0.001). 4. In the degree of improvement in ROM, the Group A who were treated by both chuna and acupuncture treatment had meaningful improvement compared to Group B who got the only acupuncture treatment(P <0.001).

In order to evaluate the improvement, Degrees of pain were measured with Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), and the change of anterior translation was assessed with anterior height of clavicle head. Results : After 3 weeks treatment, In VAS, Degrees of pain decreased 10 to 2. and Anterior height of clavicle head decreased 15mm to 5mm. Conclusions : Chuna treatment is effective on treating anterior translation of sternoclavicular joint and the local pain.

  • Objectives : Through an analysis of the previous studies, It is estimated that Chuna(shoulder traction) is effective in reducing the pain and increasing motion range of shoulder joint of the patient. So this study is to investigate the effects of Chuna(shoulder traction) on frozen shoulder. Methods : After treated with acupuncture and electro stimulating therapy, the subjects were measured list of measurement. And then treated with Chuna(shoulder traction) therapy, the subjects were measured list of measurement again. All treatment was performed by the same doctor who is a highly qualified about Chuna(shoulder traction). Chuna(shoulder traction) treatment takes 15 minutes. Three kind of Chuna(shoulder traction) therapy were performed for 5 minutes each. Depending on the degree of the subject's pain, treatment strength was adjusted. Results : - Chuna simultaneous treatment group, shoulder joint range of flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, external rotation and internal rotation movement improved statistically significant. - Chuna simultaneous and acupuncture treatment group, visual analogue scale(VAS) scores of two groups decreased statistically significant. Conclusions : The result suggests that Chuna(shoulder traction) can be effective to recover range of motion and reduce pain on patients with frozen shoulder.

Methods : Out of patients who were confirmed to have a herniated lumbar disc by MRI among the patients in oriental medical hospital of Kyungwon University from July 2005 to Dec 2006, we dived 15 people was treated common treatment, 15 people was treated both common treatment and Chuna treatment. We measured Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and symptom grade before and after treatment in each groups. Statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS program. Results : The result of the Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and symptom grade before and after treatment between two group, shows that the improvement of Back pain and Sciatica in common treatment with Chuna treatment group is more effective than that in only common treatment group.

  • This study is to observe the effect of Korean medicine treatment combined with electro-acupuncture and chuna manual treatment on tarsal tunnel syndrome inpatient. The patient, diagnosed as tarsal tunnel syndrome, was treated by Korean medicine treatment in combination with electro-acupuncture and chuna manual treatment. We measured visual analogue scale(VAS). Neuropathic pain scale(NPS) was adopted as a method of measuring the treatment results of pain & hypoesthesia. Rt. sole numbness & pain decreased from VAS 10 to VAS 4. Rt. foot paresthesia decreased from VAS 10 to VAS 4 and Rt. ankle pain was disappeared. NPS score decreased from 80 to 62. Korean medicine treatment in combination with electro-acupuncture and chuna manual treatment is proved to be helpful to improve the symptoms of the tarsal tunnel syndrome patient.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of Pharmacopuncture Treatment with Chuna Treatments for Low Back Pain caused by Traffic accidents. Methods : This study was carried out on 81 patients with low back pain caused by Traffic accidents. The patients were divided into 2 group ; The pharmacopuncture(A) group was treated by pharmacopuncture treatment. The chuna(B) group was treated by chuna treatment. We measured Oswestry Disability Index(ODI) and Visual Analog Scale(VAS) on the patients before the treatment and on the 2nd, and 4th weeks after the treatments. Results : After being treated by our methods, the ODI and VAS score's were improved after the 4th weeks treatment in both groups. There is no significant difference on ODI and VAS score after the 4th weeks treatment in both groups. In the early stages(from pre to 2 weeks worth of treatment), Group A showed a decreasing VAS score compared to Group B. In the final stages(from 2 weeks to 4 weeks worth of treatment), Group B showed a higher decreasing amount compared to Group A in VAS score. Conclusions : The results suggest that both pharmacopuncture treatment and chuna treatment is considered to be effective and useful on low back pain caused by traffic accidents. There is no significant difference between pharmacopuncture treatment and chuna treatment for low back pain caused by traffic accidents, however the early stages of treatments(from pre to 2 weeks treatement) show that pharmocopouncture treatment is more effective than chuna treatment for low back pain by traffic accidents. In the final stages(from 2 weeks to 4 weeks treatment), chuna treatment is more effective than pharmacopuncture treatment for low back pain by traffic accident.
