  • In the protein macro array image, it is important to find out the feature of the each protein chip. A decision error by the personal sense of sight occurred from long time observation while making an experiment in many protein chip image. So the feature extraction is needed by a simulator. In the case of feature analysis for macro array scan image the efficiency is maximized. In the fluorescence scan image, the response for each cell have been depend on R, G, B distribution of color image. But it is difficult to be classified as one color feature in the case of mixed color image. In this paper, the response color of a protein chip is classified according to the fuzzy integral value with respect to fuzzy measure as the user desired color. The result of the experiment for the macro array fluorescence image with the Scan Array 5000 shows that the proposed method using the fuzzy integral is important fact to be make decision for the ambiguous color.

  • Phosphors with oxide host material, YAG:$Ce^{3+}$ and $(Ca,Sr,Ba)_2SiO_4:Eu^{2+}$ yellow phosphor, has been used for LED applications. The WLEDs using these phosphors are widely used for LCD backlighting, automobile, and general lighting applications since they have high conversion efficiency and good thermal and chemical stability which can meet necessary life time of LED products up to now. With advances of LED chip technology, the external quantum efficiency and driving current in chip get higher so that the phosphors for high power chip are required to maintain high conversion efficiency and stability at high temperature due to the heat dissipated from LED chips. In addition, higher color rendering index of LED lighting and color reproducibility of LCD than those of LEDs with single yellow phosphors are required. In order to overcome these technical issues rising from evolution of LED technology, new phosphors are in demand and nitride phosphors, one of the promising new candidate materials, will be discussed here.

  • This paper describes CAD tools for the construction of image database in IC chip analysis CAD system. For IC chip analysis by high-resolution microscopy, the image database is essential to manage more than several thousand images. But manual database construction is error-prone and time-consuming. In order to solve this problem, we develop a set of CAD toos that include image grabber to capture chip images, image editor to make the whole chip image database from the grabbed images, and image divider to reconstruct the database that consists of evenly overlapped images for efficient region search. we also develop an interactive pattern matching method for user-friendly image editing, and a heuristic region search method for fast image division. The tools are developed with a high-performance graphic hardware with JPEG image comparession chip to process the huge color image data. The tools are under the field test and experimental resutls show that the database construction time can be redcued in 1/3 compared to manual database construction.

  • Important determinants for selecting outdoor lighting are the color-rendering index (CRI) and scotopic-to-photopic (S/P) ratio of the lighting units. The higher the S/P ratio, the better energy savings and visual performance. In this study, CCT-tunable LED lighting units were optimized and fabricated by spectral combination of red, green, blue, and yellow LEDs. The measured results for RGB LEDs provided S/P ratios of 1.55~2.58 and those of RGBY LEDs gave 1.46~2.46 to the correlated color temperatures (CCTs) ranging from 2700 K to 6500 K, with CRI values of over 80 at the same time.

  • Many potato genetic resources have been collected and improved for their diverse traits over the years using breeding program in KPGR. To select potential varieties for table and processing in Korea, 58 elite potato breeding lines and several 'Valley' varieties were cultivated and harvested at Korea Alpine area in 2001. The cultivated lines and varieties were evaluated using their cultural adaptability in the environment and tuber characteristics, such as the depth of tuber eye, tuber shape, skin color, flesh color, scab resistance, yield, and the resistance of hollow heart and internal brown spot disease. Additionally, in the selection of potential processing varieties, reducing sugar content (sum of glucose and fructose concentration) of tubers is critically considered, because it mainly influence on the chip color of processing potato tuber. For table stock varieties with white skin color, 'Early Valley', 'Summer Valley', 'Winter Valley', and 'Taebok Valley' were selected. In the aspect of diverse potato tuber color, several varieties were selected such as 'Golden Valley' for its yellow fresh and skin color, 'Gogu Valley', 'Juice Valley', and 'Rose Valley' for their red skin color, and 'Purple Valley' for its purple skin. Compared with world wide known processing cultivar 'Atlantic', 24 lines (or varieties) were selected for the potential potato processing industry due to their low reducing sugar contents (below 0.3%), high yield (above 4.0 ton/ha), and unique chip colors. Selected white chipping varieties were 'Taedong Valley', 'Kangshim Valley', and 'Kangwon Valley', which have 0.23%, 0.27%, and 0.29% of reducing sugar contents, respectively. 'Bora Valley', having deep purple color in both skin and fresh, was selected for purple chip variety and has 0.26% of reducing sugar content. Light yellow chip varieties (lines) were 'Rose Valley' and Valley 54, having 0.19% and 0.269% of reducing sugar content, respectively. For French frying potatoes, 'Stick Valley' of 0.22% and Valley 72 of 0.151% in reducing sugars were selected. All of these selected lines and 'Valley' varieties can be used as parents to improve potato genetic resources and to develop better varieties with unique traits and colors.

  • This paper addresses the design of srTCM (single rate Three Color Marker) described in RFC2697. It has proposed for srTCM to be used at the ingress of Differentiated Service network that provides AF PHB (Assured Forwarding Per Hop Behavior). srTCM is the marker with the metering function, and consists of the token updating function and the marking function. The token updating function uses the dual token bucket. The marking function compares the token values with the length of input packet, and then marks the result into IP QoS field (ToS field). This paper designs srTCM function and then implements it in one chip using VHDL and FPGA technology.

  • Color is one of the most important attributes determining the purchase of food products by consumers. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to identify consumer color preferences for songpyun, a traditional Korean rice cake, by a consumer acceptance test and using coated Pantone color chips. Color evaluation tools for the study were developed accordingly. From the results, the songpyun sample designated as product E was given the highest color acceptability score, and was 'slightly liked' (p<0.05). The color of product E was 'very pale red-purple'. All the evaluated pink-color songpyun products were based on this red-purple hue, however, they had differences in tone. The consumer panel favored a pale tone over a bright tone. The color concept for traditional songpyun within the pink color category was identified as 'very pale red-purple', using coated Pantone color chips. This result for the conceptual color preference was consistent with that of the consumer color acceptance test. Thus, color chips could be an effective tool when applied for color standardization in traditional foods production. From the overall results, it seems consumers are perceiving color trends and are willing to adapt to such changes in food applications.

  • The demand of quality green banana chips is increasing in the world snacks market, therefore, the preparation of quality chips and their subsequent shelf life in packaging were evaluated in this study. Banana slices were fried in hot oil to the desired moisture content (2-3%) and oil content (40%) in chips at 3 different temperatures, and the impact of different pretreatments were compared by sensory assessment. A linear relationship between time and temperature was used to achieve the optimal processing conditions. Banana slices fried at the lower temperature of $145^{\circ}C$ took longer to reach the desired chip qualities, but gave the best results in terms of color and texture. Blanching was the most effective pre-treatment for retaining the light yellow color in finished chips. For extending the shelf life of chips, moisture proof packaging in double layer high density polyethylene was more effective than single layer low density polyethylene.

  • In this paper, We proposed an effective demosaicking method for single chip RGB-NIR sensors to recover RGB and NIR images. As the method operates in the spatial frequency domain, the frequency domain characteristics of the sampled CFA data are investigated. Using the luminance signal in the frequency domain and the chrominance signals are processed separately with different filters. The simulated images using the real images are compared with other state-of-art methods. As a result, the proposed demosaicking method resulted an effective calculation by a single processing which the existing alternating projection method requires repeated calculation.
