  • In this study, toxin gene and antibiotic resistance of food poisoning strains isolated from indoor air in the cafeteria were analyzed to prevent food poisoning. Staphylococcus aureus (16 strains) and Bacillus cereus (37 strains) isolated from indoor air in child care center were tested. The toxin genes of S. aureus and B. cereus were detected by PCR assay. The antimicrobial susceptibility test followed the disc diffusion method described by the Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute. The seg and sei toxin genes were detected in 11 of 16 S. aureus strains (68.6%). The nheA and nheB toxin genes were detected in 37 B. cereus strains. In this study, a total of 12 toxin gene patterns of B. cereus were found, among which the nheA-nheB-nheC toxin gene was found to be the most frequent pattern. The result of the antimicrobial susceptibility test of S. aureus revealed 93.8% and 87.5% resistance to ampicillin and penicillin antibiotics, but methicillin resistance S. aureus and vancomycin resistance S. aureus were not detected. All 37 B. cereus tested in this study were resistant to ampicillin and penicillin antibiotics. Based on the result of this study, it was judged that regular ventilation and air quality management were necessary to prevent food poisoning caused by S. aureus and B. cereus contaminated in the indoor air of child care centers.

Methods: A total of 266 early child teachers in Busan participated in this study. They completed a set of question naires which consisted of questions about teaching beliefs, mathematics teaching efficacy, pedagogical content knowledge of mathematics, and the teaching intention of mathematics. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS program. Results: First, we observed several positive correlations among the four variables. Second, we found that early childhood teachers' constructive teaching beliefs, mathematics teaching efficacy, and pedagogical content knowledge of mathematics had effects on their teaching intention of mathematics. The knowledge about teaching-learning methods for mathematics among the subcategories of pedagogical content knowledge of mathematics was observed as the strongest predictor for the teachers' teaching intention. Conclusion: We need to take more interest in the pedagogical knowledge about teaching-learning methods of mathematics in teacher training courses in order to enhance teachers' teaching intention of mathematics. As a result, this will makea contribution to high quality math education for young children.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to review recent findings from birth cohort studies on maternal and child environmental health. Methods: Birth cohort studies regarding environmental health outcomes for mothers and their children were investigated through a systematic review. A literature search was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, the Cochrane Library, Embase, and RISS to identify published studies using the keywords using a combination of the following keywords: maternal exposure, environmental exposure, health, cohort, and birth cohort. Articles were searched and a quality appraisal using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for cohort studies was done. Results: A review of the 14 selected studies revealed that prenatal and early life exposure to environmental pollutants had negative impacts on physical, cognitive, and behavioral development among mothers and children up to 12 years later. Environmental pollutants included endocrine disruptors, air pollution (e.g., particulate matter), and heavy metals. Conclusion: This systematic review demonstrated that exposure to environmental pollutants negatively influences maternal and children's environmental health outcomes from pregnancy to the early years of life. Therefore, maternal health care professionals should take steps to reduce mothers' and children's exposure to environmental pollutants.

  • Purpose: This pilot study aimed to assess the feasibility, preliminary efficacy, and effects of a mobile app healthcare coaching program developed based on self-regulation theory among youths with type 1 diabetes. Methods: A mixed-method design was utilized. Participants were randomly assigned into intervention (n=23, 12-week coaching program) or control groups (n=16, usual care). Pre- and post-intervention assessments included self-efficacy, diabetes management behavior, and health outcomes (quality of life, depression, and HbA1c). Quantitative data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN ver. 26.0. The narrative information from the participants in the healthcare coaching program underwent content analyzed. Results: The intervention group had significantly lower depression scores (t=2.57, p=.014) than the control group. No significant differences were observed in self-efficacy, diabetes management behavior, and health outcomes between the two groups. The average frequency of health behavior monitoring per week among the participants was 1.86±1.60. The qualitative findings indicated that participants perceived improved diabetes self-management with the intervention; however, challenges during vacations, dietary control difficulties, and a lack of disease awareness were identified. Conclusion: The healthcare coaching program improved psychological aspects for youth with type 1 diabetes. • This study set out to investigate the joint homeroom teacher system with two regular teachers at early childhood education institutions in a realistic manner, thus contributing to its application to the field, establishing a system of teachers with professionalism, and providing basic data to create and manage the collaborative capabilities of teachers. For these purposes, the investigator collected and analyzed data from 13 semi-structured individual and group interviews with 16 teachers at K Kindergarten in Gyeonggi Province, eight field observations, and four participant observations for about three months from April to July, 2017. The data were analyzed in the stages of qualitative data analysis involving keyword categories, classification, and discovery of sub-themes. Based on the findings, the study categorized the collaborative management of the joint homeroom teacher system with two regular teachers into "job performance," "difficulties," "institutional supports" and "changes." These findings lead to an expectation that the introduction of the joint homeroom teacher system with two regular teachers will establish a foundation for higher quality of education through the process and changes of collaborative management between two teachers with professionalism.
