  • Since the electrification of vehicles has been extended, solid-state batteries have been attracting a lot of interest because of their superior safety. Especially, polymer, sulfide, and oxide based materials are being studied as solid electrolytes, and each type of materials has advantaged and disadvantages over others. Oxide electrolytes has higher chemical and electrochemical stability compared to the other types of electrolytes. However, ionic conductivity isn't high enough as much as that of organic liquid electrolytes. Also, there are many difficulties of fabricating solid-state batteries with oxide based electrolytes because they require a sintering process at very high temperature (above ${\sim}800^{\circ}C$). Herein, we review recent studies of solid-state batteries with oxide based electrolytes about the ionic conductivity, interfacial reactions with Li metal, and preparation of solid-state cell.

  • Nickel oxide is a nonstoichiometric transparent conductive oxide with p-type conductivity, a wide-band energy gap of 3.4~4.0 eV, and excellent chemical stability, making it a very important candidate as a material for bipolar devices. P-type conductivity in Transparent Conductive Oxides (TCO) is controlled by the oxygen vacancy concentration. During the TCO film deposition process, additional oxygen diffusing into the NiO structure causes the formation of Ni 3p ions and Ni vacancies. This eventually affects the hole concentration of the p-type oxide thin film. In this work, the surface morphology and the electrical characteristics were confirmed in accordance with the annealing atmosphere of the nickel oxide thin film.

  • A multi-chemical supply system is developed and applied to a wet station, which uses the multi-chemical process in one bath. To control the concentration of two chemicals, control logic of a supply pump is programmed using the programable logic controller (PLC). By using the multi-chemical supply system, wet station with single bath is applied to cleaning process using multi chemicals such as buffed oxide etchant (BOE) and standard clean 1 (SC-1). The concentration of each chemical is measured in the bath to verify the multi-chemical supply system. The control range in the each chemical concentration is measured to 1.33weight% in NH4OH and 0.23weight% in H2O2. The multi-chemical supply system can be movable and usable as an independent module of fixed wet station. By simply midifying the PLC, a multi-chemical supply system can be developed for a wet station.

  • The main focus of this study was the evaluation of arsenic concentration in the ground water of Lahore at different depth and application of different mitigation techniques for arsenic removal. Twenty four hours of solar oxidation gives 90% of arsenic removal as compared to 8 hr. or 16 hr. Among oxides, calcium oxide gives 96% of As removal as compared to 93% by lanthanum oxide. Arsenic removal efficiency was up to 97% by ferric chloride, whereas 95% by alum. Activated alumina showed 99% removal as compared to 97% and 95% removal with bauxite and charcoal, respectively. Elemental analysis of adsorbents showed that the presence of phosphate and silica can cause a reduction of arsenic removal efficiency by activated alumina, bauxite and charcoal. This study has laid a foundation for further research on arsenic in the city of Lahore and has also provided suitable techniques for arsenic removal.

  • This study has been endeavored to deposit resistance films of tin oxide on the cylindrical Pyrex glass rods. In this report, at first an outline of the film formation is described and later some electrical properities of the resistance films manufactured through new method is discussed in detail. Because the new method which is called, "Chemical Vapour Reaction Process", is not only easy to get stable resistance films, but also doesn't need vacuum systtem, it seems to be a promising fundamental process to go into flow system mass production. Electrical properties of resistance films made by the new mathod are similar to or surpassing those by provious method (for example splay method). The top data thus obtained shows that surface resistivity is 25ohm/sq. with 12 ppm in temperature coefficient of resistor. resistor.

  • Aluminum oxide ($Al_2O_3$) nanofibers were treated thermally under an ammonia ($NH_3$) gas stream balanced by nitrogen to form a thin aluminum nitride (AlN) layer on the nanofibers, resulting in the enhancement of thermal conductivity of $Al_2O_3$/epoxy nanocomposites. The micro-structural and morphological properties of the $NH_3$-assisted thermally-treated $Al_2O_3$ nanofibers were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AEM), respectively. The surface characteristics and pore structures were observed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Zeta-potential and $N_2$/77 K isothermal adsorptions. From the results, the formation of AlN on $Al_2O_3$ nanofibers was confirmed by XRD and XPS. The thermal conductivity (TC) of the modified $Al_2O_3$ nanofibers/epoxy composites increased with increasing treated temperatures. On the other hand, the severely treated $Al_2O_3$/epoxy composites showed a decrease in TC, resulting from a decrease in the probability of heat-transfer networks between the filler and matrix in this system due to the aggregation of nanofiber fillers.

  • Metal aluminum, of which has a low standard reduction potential, participates in the electrochemical oxidation reaction and results in the structural change and accompanying property variation of aluminum and its oxide film. Aluminum was electrochemically etched in acid solution and the surface area was magnified by the formation of high density etch pits. Etched aluminum was covered with a compact and dense dielectric oxide film by anodization and applied to the capacitor electrode. Anodization of aluminum in acid solution at low temperature makes a nanoporous aluminum oxide layer which can be used for the fabrication template of nanostructural materials. Electrochemical characteristics of aluminum turn the metal aluminum into functional materials and it will bring the diverse applications of metal aluminum.

  • High intensity ultrasound has been applied to a series of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)/water systems having different molecular weights of PEO. Major interest was focused on the effect of ultrasonic wane on the melt viscosity chemical structure and thermal properties of PEO. The expected role of ultrasound used in this study was to generate macroradicals of PEO chains by the formation and subsequent collapse of bubbles. It was found that the melt viscosity and chemical structure of PEO change significantly depending on the sonication time. For the prolonged sonication, PEO chains were significantly degraded and new end groups were formed by the interplay of various radical species. When the molecular weight of PEO was relatively higher, the crystallization rate was decreased and the intensity of the melting peak was reduced.

  • The etching characteristics of indium zinc oxide (IZO) in $Cl_2/Ar$ plasma were investigated, including the etch rate and selectivity of IZO. The IZO etch rate showed non-monotonic behavior with increasing $Cl_2$ fraction in the $Cl_2/Ar$ plasma, and with increasing source power, bias power, and process pressure. In the $Cl_2/Ar$ (75:25%) gas mixture, a maximum IZO etch rate of 87.6 nm/min and etch selectivity of 1.09 for IZO to $SiO_2$ were obtained. Owing to the relatively low volatility of the by-products formation, ion bombardment was required, in addition to physical sputtering, to obtain high IZO etch rates. The chemical state of the etched surfaces was investigated with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. These data suggested that the IZO etch mechanism was ion-enhanced chemical etching.

  • Three kinds of lanthanum oxides ($La_2CO_3$) were synthesized from different methods and used as a catalyst in the transesterification of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) with glycerol for the synthesis of glycerol carbonate (GLC). Lanthanum oxide synthesized using a surfactant (S-La) showed a much higher GLC yield of 89.9% compared to other lanthanum oxides synthesized by calcination (C-La) and precipitation (P-La) at the reaction conditions of $90^{\circ}C$, DMC/glycerol = 2, and catalyst/glycerol = 5 wt %. The best catalyst was obtained when the surfactant/La weight ratio was 12. XRD study revealed that S-La has large amount of monoclinic and hexagonal $La_2O_2CO_3$ phases, which are assumed as active sites of the catalyst for the reaction.
