  • In this study, developed a micro-level experimental setup to measure pore pressure and poroelastic modulus in various strain and strain rate about a stress in micro-structure of bone tissue. It is essential device in the development of the model to analysis the interstitial bone fluid flow of the lacuno-canalicular system to be known that would effect on the bone remodeling. The constitution of the experimental setup is as follows, microscopic image processing system; actuator control unit; load measurement system. A pilot study was used an artificial chemical wood to have similar poroelastic property of bone matrix and conducted to validate the suitability of the measurement system.

  • The naphthalic amide derivatives were synthesized by simple condensation and were crystallized by acetonitrile solution. The SEM images of products with methyl group and nitro group, respectively, showed rod shape while the SEM images of products with other groups ($N(CH_3)_2$, $OCH_3$, H, F, and Cl), respectively, showed plate shape. We were known from these results that the substituent of ending group played an important role in the crystallization of single molecule and the morphology of naphthalic derivatives could be controlled by only change of ending group in single molecule.

  • In lithography based on repulsion of ink and water emulsification is inevitably generated. Thus it is necessary to analyze relationship between printability and physical and chemical properties of emulsified ink. Transfer rate of ink is one of the important factor deciding print quality. And it is closely concerned with rheological properties of emulsified ink. Rheological properties such as flow, yield, plastic viscosity, creep, oscillation and tack tests were measured. In order to examine printability of emulsified ink, ink transfer equations, density, ink film thickness and gloss were measured.

  • Photoluminescence properties and surface morphologies of porous silicon etched with various applied current densities at fixed etching times. FE-SEM image of porous silicon surface indicated that the porous silicon prepared at currents below 200 mA exhibited very bright red photoluminescence properties. As the applied current densities increased, the photoluminescence efficiencies of porous silicon prepared at applied current densities above 300 mA decreased, and displayed the cracked surface on porous silicon. This cracked surface start to collapsed to give cracked domains.

  • In the chemical, mineral and electronics industries, mechanically stirred tanks are widely used for complex liquid and particle mixing processes. In order to understand the complex phenomena that occur in such tanks, it is necessary to investigate flow field in the vessel. Most difficulty on the numerical analysis of stirred tank flow field focused particularly on free surface analysis. In order to decrease the dead zone and improve the flow efficiency of a system with free surface, this paper presents a new method that overcomes free surface effects by properly combining the benefits of using experiment and 3-D CFD. This method is applied to study the mixing flow in an agitated tank. From the results of experimental studies using the PIV (particle image velocimetry) system, the distribution of mixing flow including free surface are obtained. And these values that are expressed as a velocity vector field have been patched for simulating the free surface. The results of velocity distribution obtained by 3-D CFD are compared with those of experimental results. The experimental data and the simulation results are in good agreement.

  • This paper presents a novel method to speed up neural network (NN) based face detection systems. NN-based face detection can be viewed as a classification and search problem. The proposed method formulates the search problem as an integer nonlinear optimization problem (INLP) and develops an improved genetic algorithm (IGA) to solve it. Each individual in the IGA represents a subwindow in an input image. The subwindows are evaluated by how well they match a NN-based face filter. A face is indicated when the filter response of the best particle is above a given threshold. Experimental results show that the proposed method leads to a speedup of 83 on $320{\times}240$ images compared to the traditional exhaustive search method.

  • The objective of this paper is to estimate the concentration distribution in flow field inside the pipeline based on electrical impedance tomography. Special emphasis is given to the development of dynamic imaging technique for two-phase field undergoing a rapid transient change. Nonlinearity-compensation extended Kalman filter is employed to cope with unexpected measurement uncertainty. The nonlinearity-compensation extended Kalman filter compensates for the influence of measurement uncertainty and solves the instability of extended Kalman filter. Extensive computer simulations are carried out to show that nonlinearity-compensation extended Kalman filter has enhanced estimation performance especially in the unexpected measurement environment.

  • Obstacle avoidance is a basic skill to make a mobile robot move effectively and safely even in any arbitrarily given environment. Because of the difficulty of self-location caused by unavoidable slip and drift errors of sensors and effective detection of any encountered obstacle, only finite and simple obstacle avoidance strategies can be carried out. In this paper we mainly explored how to make a robot perform effectively obstacle detection and avoidance in the guideline navigation with one CCD video camera and some supersonic sensors. Making use of the specially designed guideline, the detection and calculation of the geometric dimensions of the encountered obstacle became simpler. And possible avoidance strategies appropriate to our navigation were studied and the simulations results were given.

  • This study was undertaken to determine (1) the usefulness of chromium intensifier to improve the dignostic quality of light radiograph; (2) the effect of chromium intensifier on density, contrast; and (3) the effect of various chemical concentrations on density. The following results obtained: 1. CHROMIUM INTENSIFIER is useful for intensifying and improving the diagnostic quality of a light dental radiograph. 2. The degree of intensification can be controlled by varying bleaching time, repeating the processing, varying the proportions of the potassium bicarbonate and hydrochloric acid solutions. 3. The image produced is black and permanent. 4. The intensifier increases density and contrast.

  • A study has been made on the quantification and evaluation of fabric pilling using two-dimensional and three-dimensional hybrid imaging methods. Two-dimensional imaging method was good for some samples while three-dimensional measurement method for others, according to the properties of their base fabric. Various image processing techniques as well as three-dimensional data processing algorithms were applied for the extraction of pills from measured data and a series of shape parameters have been defined for the objective evaluation of fabric pilling. An evaluation criterion that is compatible with the conventional evaluation method has been proposed by applying the new evaluation method to the current photographic standards.
