해양기기 적용을 위한 해수이차전지 패키지 및 BMS 모듈 설계 (Design of Seawater Rechargeable Battery Package and BMS Module for Marine Equipment)

  • The design of a battery package and a BMS module for applications using seawater rechargeable batteries, which are known as next-generation energy storage devices, is proposed herein. Seawater rechargeable batteries, which are currently in the initial stage of research, comprise primarily components such as anode and cathode materials. Their application is challenging owing to their low charge capacity and limited charge/discharge voltage and current. Therefore, we design a method for packaging multiple cells and a BMS module for the safe charging and discharging of seawater rechargeable batteries. In addition, a prototype seawater rechargeable battery package and BMS module are manufactured, and their performances are verified by evaluating the prevention of overcharge, overdischarge, overcurrent, and short circuit during charging and discharging.

Electric Model of Li-Ion Polymer Battery for Motor Driving Circuit in Hybrid Electric Vehicle

  • This paper presents an equivalent circuit model of a LIPB (Li-Ion Polymer battery) for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs). The proposed equivalent circuit can be used to predict the charging/discharging characteristics in time domain as well as the impedance characteristic analysis in frequency domain. Based on these features, a one-cell model is established as a function of Depth of Discharge (DoD), and a 48-cell model for a battery pack was also established. It was confirmed by experiment that the proposed model predict the discharging and impedance (AC) characteristics quite accurately at different constant current levels. To check the usefulness of the proposed circuit, the model was used to simulate a motor driving circuit with an Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) inverter and Brushless DC (BLDC) motor, and it is confirmed that the model can calculate the battery voltage fluctuation in time domain at different DoDs.

  • This study introduces a new topology to decrease the voltage stress experienced by a 13.56 MHz electrical variable capacitor (EVC) circuit with an asymmetrical switch structure applied to the impedance matching circuit of a radio frequency (RF) plasma system. The method adopts a symmetrical switch structure instead of an asymmetrical one in each of the capacitor's leg in the EVC circuit. The proposed topology successfully reduces voltage stress in the EVC circuit due to the symmetrical charging and discharging mode. This topology can also be applied to the impedance matching circuit of a high-power and high-frequency RF etching system. The target features of the proposed circuit topology are investigated via simulation and experiment. Voltage stress on the switch of the EVC circuit is successfully reduced by more than 40%.

Evaluation of Tolerance of Some Elemental Impurities on Performance of Pb-Ca-Sn Positive Pole Grids of Lead-Acid Batteries

  • The electrochemical performance of positive pole grids of lead-acid batteries made of Pb-0.08%Ca-1.1%Sn alloys without and with 0.1 wt% of each of Cu, As or Sb and with 0.1 wt% of Cu, As and Sb combined was investigated by electrochemical methods in 4.0 M $H_2SO_4$. The corrodibility of alloys under open-circuit conditions and constant current charging of the positive pole, the positive pole gassing and the self-discharge of the charged positive pole were studied. All impurities (Cu, As, Sb) were found to decrease the corrosion resistance, $R_{corr}$ after 1/2 hour corrosion, but after 24 hours an improvement in $R_{corr}$ was recorded for Sb containing alloy and the alloy with the three impurities combined. While an individual impurity was found to enhance oxygen evolution reaction, the impurities combined significantly inhibition this reaction and the related water loss problem was improved. Impedance results were found helpful in identification of the species involved in the charging/discharging and the self-discharge of the positive pole. Impurities individually or combined were found to increase the self-discharge during polarization (33-68%), where Sb containing alloy was the worst and impurities combined alloy was the least. The corrosion of the positive pole grid in the constant current charging was found to increase in the presence of impurities by 5-10%. Under open-circuit, the self-discharge of the charged positive grids was found to increase significantly (92-212%) in the presence of impurities, with Sb-containing alloy was the worst. The important result of the study is that the harmful effect of the studied impurities combined was not additive but sometimes lesser than any individual impurity.

  • 리튬이온 배터리는 높은 에너지 밀도 빠른 충전조건 긴 사이클수명의 특성으로 여러 분야에서 사용되고 있다. 하지만 리튬이온 배터리는 과충전, 과방전, 물리적손상, 고온에서의 사용은 배터리 수명 감소와 보호회로 손상에 의한 화재 및 폭발에 의한 인명피해를 입힐 수 있다. 이러한 배터리의 위험성을 낮추며 배터리 성능을 향상시키기 위해서는 충전 및 방전 과정에서의 특성들을 분석하고 이해하여야 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 배터리 충방전기와 시뮬레이터를 활용하여 리튬이온 배터리의 충전 및 방전 특성을 분석하여 과충전 과방전에 따른 배터리 수명 감소와 보호회로 손상에 의한 화재 및 폭발에 의한 인명피해를 줄이고자 한다.

모세관을 이용한 멀티형 열펌프의 신뢰성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Stuff on the Performance of Multi-type Heat Pump using Capillary Tubes)

  • In order to develop a multi-type heat pump system with two indoor units of non-uniform capacities, the optimum refrigerant circuit was developed using capillary tubes. The refrigerant circuit was composed of four main parts, a heating circuit, a cooling circuit, a by-pass circuit and a balance circuit. The system characteristics of multi-type heat pump was investigated through the rating test and the reliability test, using the multi-type psy-chrometric calorimeter. The results of the rating test showed that the capacity of the multi-type heat pump was about 93% of the design value. In particular, the capacity of cooling single mode was about 13% higher than the design value, and the capacity of heating multi mode was about 5% higher than the design value. The reliability of the multi-type heat pump was verified by various reliability tests (overload, extension tube, freeze up, under/over charging, sweat, flood back). The optimal amount of refrigerant charge and compressor capacity were determined from the present work.

전자기유도방식을 이용한 무선 충전 기기의 구현 및 성능 측정 (Performance Measurement of the Wireless Charging Devices Using Eletromagnetic Induction Techniques)

  • 본 논문에서는 전자기 유도 방식을 이용하여 무선전력전송 시스템을 구현하고 전송 효율을 측정하였다. 또한 수신부 코일의 세부 조건 변화에 따른 효율 변화를 확인하고 최적의 코일 조건을 제시하였다. 제작한 송수신부 회로를 이용하여 수신 코일 위치에 따른 전압 변화를 측정하고, 같은 위치에서 인덕턴스 값 변화에 따른 전압변화를 측정하였으며, 휴대폰 충전 시간을 측정하는 앱을 개발하여 충전 상태에 따른 무선전력전송 충전 시간을 비교하여 이를 통해 최적의 무선전력전송 시스템을 구현하고자 하였다. 개발된 전자기 유도방식을 이용한 무선전력전송 시스템은 주파수 125 kHz를 사용하며, 핸드폰 50%에서 60%까지 충전 시 유선 충전기는 16분, 무선충전기는 23분의 충전시간을 가졌다.

전기자동차 충전기의 누전차단기 감도 전류 Trip 방지를 위한 Joule Heating 시뮬레이션 방안연구 (A Study on Joule Heating Simulation Method to Prevent Sensitivity Current Trip of Electric Vehicle Charger)

  • 본 논문에서는 충전 시 발생하는 누전차단기 Trip으로 충전 중단에 의한 전기자동차 사용자의 불편함을 방지하기 위한 것이다. 현장 사례연구로 충전기 고장(failure) 유형, 차종별 누설전류 측정실험, 누전차단기 동작 실험 시 여름철 충전기 내부 온도가 60 ℃이상까지 상승하여 누전차단기가 정격 감도 전류의 80%에서 Trip으로 충전 중단됨을 확인하였다. Joule Heating 모델링을 통하여 32A 전류를 초기 시간 t=0 (s)의 기준온도 30℃에서 통전하여 t=3000 (s)경과 후에는 누전차단기 충전부 주위에서 발열이 32.4℃까지 증가함을 시뮬레이션으로 확인하였으며, 통계 검증 tool을 활용하여 온도 및 시간(s) 요인이 발생 열량에 상관관계 0.97로 검증되었다. 본 논문의 연구 실험 결과는 충전기 기구 물 개발 시 충전케이스의 재질, 내부 배선의 배치, 유전 매질에 따른 Joule Heating 시뮬레이션 수행으로 여름철 충전기 내부 온도 상승에 의한 누전차단기 감도 전류 Trip을 방지할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Multiple Buck-Chopper using Partial Resonant Switching

  • This paper proposed that an AC-DC converter system using multiple buck-chopper operates with four choppers connecting to a number of parallel circuits. To improve these, a large number of soft switching topologies included a resonant circuit have been proposed. And, some simulative results on computer are included to confirm the validity of the analytical results. The partial resonant circuit makes use of an inductor using step-down and a condenser of loss-less snubber. The result is that the switching loss is very low and the efficiency of system is high. And the snubber condenser used in a partial resonant circuit makes charging energy regenerated at input power source for resonant operation. The proposed conversion system is deemed the most suitable for high power applications where the power switching devices are used.

Comparative Study of Non-Electrochemical Hysteresis Models for LiFePO4/Graphite Batteries

  • The estimation of $LiFePO_4$/graphite battery states suffers from the prominent hysteresis phenomenon between the respective open-circuit voltage curves towards charging and discharging. A lot of hysteresis models have been documented to investigate the hysteresis mechanism. This paper reviews and deeply interprets four non-electrochemical hysteresis models and some improvements. These models can be conveniently incorporated into commonly used equivalent circuit models to reproduce battery behaviors. Through simulation and experimental comparisons of voltage predictions and state-of-charge estimations, the pros and cons of these models are presented.
