  • Moisture and high temperature are the most important factors that lead to the ageing of oil-paper insulation, but the research about space charge characteristics of oil-paper insulation does not take the combined effect of ambient temperature, moisture and thermal ageing into account. The pulsed electroacoustic (PEA) method was used to investigate the influence of moisture and temperature on space charge characteristics of oil paper at different ageing stages. The results showed that moisture could speed up formation of space charge in oil paper when water concentration was low, but the formation was restrained if the water concentration was high. At the beginning of thermal ageing, heterogeneous charge accumulation had predominance, but it gradually changed to homogeneous charge injection with ageing. It was believed that moisture concentration could speed up ageing and enhance charge accumulation on one hand, and accelerate or slow down the establishment speed of space charge on the other hand, therefore, charge accumulation type changed with ageing. The more seriously the oil-paper insulation was thermally aged, the deeper the trap energy level was, hence more space charge was trapped, which could be speeded up by increasing the ageing temperature, but the effect of ambient temperature did not fit the Arrhenius law.

  • For thermal-neutron-induced fission of $U^{235}$, nuclear charge distribution in the light part of the primary products has been calculated by using several postulates of charge distribution in the fission fragments. By comparing these values with the experimental results, it is revealed that those models are not appropriate for predicting the nuclear charge distribution in the fission fragments. The variation in the most probable charge, $Z_{P}$, of the isobaric distribution for the fission fragments and the charge for a mass given by unchanged charge density, $Z_{UCD}$, is turned out to be small as a function of mass. The parameter, $Z_{P}$ $-Z_{UCD}$, varies from 0.45 to 0.5 in charge units. The nuclear charge dispersion, $\sigma$, shows about 0.5 charge units for the fission fragments. Neutron odd-even effect in fission products could not be revealed clearly without considering the odd-even effect of prompt neutron emission.

  • State-of-charge (SOC) is one of the significant indicators to estimate the driving range of the electric vehicle and to control the alternator of the conventional engine vehicles as well. Therefore its precise estimation is crucial not only for utilizing the energy effectively but also preventing critical situations happening to the power train and lengthening the lifetime of the battery. However, lead-acid battery is time-variant, highly nonlinear, and the hysteresis phenomenon causes large errors in estimation SOC of the battery especially under the frequent discharge/charge. This paper proposes a novel estimation technique for the SOC of the Lead-Acid battery by using a well-known Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) and an electrical equivalent circuit model of the Lead-Acid battery considering diffusion and hysteresis characteristics. The diffusion is considered by the reconstruction of the open circuit voltage decay depending on the rest time and the hysteresis effect is modeled by calculating the normalized integration of the charge throughput during the partial cycle. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified through the experiments.

  • Herein, we report the fabrication of low-voltage N-type organic field-effect transistors by using high capacitance fluorinated polymer gate dielectrics such as P(VDF-TrFE), P(VDF-TrFE-CTFE), and P(VDF-TrFE-CFE). Electron-withdrawing functional groups in PVDF-based polymers typically cause the depletion of negative charge carriers and a high contact resistance in N-channel organic semiconductors. Therefore, we incorporated intermediate layers of a low-k polymerto prevent the formation of a direct interface between PVDF-based gate insulators and the semiconducting active layer. Consequently, electron depletion is inhibited, and the high charge resistance between the semiconductor and source/drain electrodes is remarkably improved by the in corporation of solution-processed charge injection layers.

  • Spray characteristics of charge injected 2-fluid nozzle for non-conducting liquid have been studied. Spray current, specific charge and SMD of diesel have been measured. Spray current and specific charge are proportional to applied voltage. Air flow did not effect on spray current and specific charge. SMD decreases as air flow rate increases and decreases as applied voltage increases additionally. Spray angle increases as applied voltage increases. Fine droplets are obtained by charge injected 2-fluid nozzle without charge loss.

  • The response property of the CZT detector ($5{\times}5{\times}5\;mm^3$), widely used in photon spectroscopy, was evaluated by considering the charge collection efficiency, which depends on the interaction position of incident radiation, A quantitative analysis of the energy spectra obtained from the CZT detector was also performed to investigate the tail effect at the low energy side of the full energy peak. The collection efficiency of electrons and holes to the two electrodes (i.e., cathode and anode) was calculated from the Hecht equation, and radiation transport analysis was performed by two Monte Carlo codes, Geant4 and MCNPX. The radiation source was assumed to be 59.5 keV gamma rays emitted from a $^{241}Am$ source into the cathode surface of this detector, and the detector was assumed to be biased to 500 V between the two electrodes. Through the comparison of the results between the Geant4 calculation considering the charge collection efficiency and the ideal case from MCNPX, an pronounced difference of 4 keV was found in the full energy peak position. The tail effect at the low energy side of the full energy peak was confirmed to be caused by the collection efficiency of electrons and holes. In more detail, it was shown that the tail height caused by the charge collection efficiency went up to 1000 times the pulse height in the same energy bin at the calculation without considering the charge collection efficiency. It is, therefore, apparent that research considering the charge collection efficiency is necessary in order to properly analyze the characteristics of CZT detectors.

  • In this study, the optimization and performance characteristics of a cascade heat pump system was analyzed with the variation of low stage refrigerant charge amount. The cascade heat pump was designed and constructed with R134a and R410A as the refrigerant for high stage and low stage cycle, respectively. Experiments were conducted by varying the low stage charge amount and the performance characteristics of the cascade heat pump were studied. The refrigerant charge amount of the low stage cycle was varied between the ranges of -15% and +10% of the optimum charge amount. The performance variation experienced in the cascade heat pump due to the variation of refrigerant charge amount shows greater effect in the undercharge regions than the overcharge regions. COP reduction in the undercharge region is larger than the decrease in the overcharge region. Some cycle variation such as power consumption and cycle pressure according to low stage refrigerant charge amount showed different trends comparing with those according to high stage refrrgerant charge amount. Therefore, the optimum charge amount of the cascade heat pump should be determined based on the experimental data obtained by the variation of high and low stage refrigerant charge amount.

  • In this study, we intensively investigated the effect of conductive additive amount on electrochemical performance of organic supercapacitors. For this purpose, we assembled coin-type organic supercapacitor cells with a variation of conductive additive(carbon black) amount; carbon aerogel and polyvinylidene fluoride were employed as active material and binder, respectively. Carbon aerogel, which is a highly mesoporous and ultralight material, was prepared via pyrolysis of resorcinol-formaldehyde gels synthesized from polycondensation of two starting materials using sodium carbonate as the base catalyst. Successful formation of carbon aerogel was well confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and $N_2$ adsorption-desorption analysis. Electrochemical performances of the assembled organic supercapacitor cells were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge/discharge, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. Amount of conductive additive was found to strongly affect the charge transfer resistance of the supercapacitor electrodes, leading to a different optimal amount of conductive additive in organic supercapacitor electrodes depending on the applied charge-discharge rate. A high-rate charge-discharge process required a relatively high amount of conductive additive. Through this work, we came to conclude that determining the optimal amount of conductive additive in developing an efficient organic supercapacitor should include a significant consideration of supercapacitor end use, especially the rate employed for the charge-discharge process.

  • In this paper we propose a model which can predict well the logical errors come from the charge redistribution in domino gates. In this model the effect of the intrinsic capacitance between gate and channel of MOSFET's is considered. This effect is more important than the parasitic capacitance effect. The error by the proposed model is only 8% of that by the currently used model. This model can be used as a guide-line in the design of domino circuits.
