The mechanical process followed by hydrometallurgical treatment has been developed in order to recover cobalt and lithium from spent lithium ion battery. In the previous study, a citrate precursor combustion process to prepare cathodic active materials from the leaching solution was elucidated. Resynthesis of electrode materials should be more valuable in spent battery recycling. Conventional slurry mixing of $LiCoO_2$ and carbon cannot make uniform distribution, and therefore the cathode cannot reach the theoretical charge-discharge capacity and is easily degraded during the charge-discharge cycling. In this study, ultra-fine $LiCoO_2$ powders has been prepared by modification of the combustion process and fabricated the enhanced cathode by modification of mixing method of $LiCoO_2$ and carbon added.
Carbon-coated $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3-LiMnPO_4$ composite cathode materials are first reported in this work, prepared by the mechanochemical process with a complex metal oxide as the precursor and sucrose as the carbon source. X-ray diffraction pattern of the composite material indicates that both olivine $LiMnPO_4$ and monoclinic $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3$ co-exist. We further investigated the electrochemical properties of our $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3-LiMnPO_4$ composite cathode materials using galvanostatic charging/discharging tests, where our $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3-LiMnPO_4$ composite electrode materials exhibit the charge/discharge efficiency of 91.9%, while $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3$ and $LiMnPO_4$ exhibit the efficiency of 87.7 and 86.7% in the first cycle. The composites display unique electrochemical performances in terms of overvoltage and cycle stability, displaying a reduced gap of 141.6 mV between charge and discharge voltage and 95.0% capacity efficiency after $15^{th}$ cycles.

To improve the cycle performance LiM $n_2$$O_4$as the cathode of 4V class lithium secondary batteries, the cathode properties of the cubic spinel phases LiM $g_{x}$ /M $n_{2-x}$/ $O_4$ synthesized at 80$0^{\circ}C$ were examined. All cathode material showed spinel phase based on cubic phase in X-ray diffraction however. other peaks gradually exhibited and became intense with the increase of x value in LiM $g_{x}$ /M $n_{2-x}$/ $O_4$. The cycle performance of the LiM $g_{x}$ /M $n_{2-x}$/ $O_4$was improved by the substitution of $Mg^{2+}$ for M $n^{3+}$ in the octahedral sites. Specially LiM $g_{0.1}$/M $n_{1.9}$ / $O_4$cathode materials showed the charge and discharge capacity of about 130~125mAh/g at first cycle and about 105mAh/g after 50th cycle. It is excellent than that of pure LiM $n_{2}$/ $O_4$ which 125mAh/g at first cycle 70mAh/g at 50th. In addition cathode material prepared at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 24hr and 42hr in the charge and discharge capapcity as well as the cycle stability.ility.y.y.

Tin-antimony sulfide nanocomposites were prepared via hydrothermal synthesis and a N2 reduction process for use as a negative electrode in a sodium ion battery. The electrochemical energy storage performance of the battery was analyzed according to the tin-antimony composition. The optimized sulfides exhibited superior charge/discharge capacity (770 mAh g-1 at a current density of 100 mA g-1) and stable lifespan characteristics (71.2 % after 200 cycles at a current density of 500 mA g-1). It exhibited a reversible characteristic, continuously participating in the charge-discharge process. The improved electrochemical energy storage performance and cycle stability was attributed to the small particle size, by controlling the composition of the tin-antimony sulfide. By optimizing the tin-antimony ratio during the synthesis process, it did not deviate from the solubility limit. Graphene oxide also acts to suppress volume expansion during reversible electrochemical reaction. Based on these results, tin-antimony sulfide is considered a promising anode material for a sodium ion battery used as a medium-to-large energy storage source.

Characteristics of half cells of graphite/lithium and LiCoO$_2$/lithium, and full cells of graphite/LiCoO$_2$/ were analyzed by the use of GISOC(the gradual increasing of the state of charge). GISOC analyses generated IIE(the initial intercalation efficiency), which represents lithium intercalation property of the electrode material, and IIC$_{s}$(the initial irreversible capacity by the surface), which represents irreversible reaction between the electrode surface and electrolyte. Linear-fit range of graphite and LiCo/O$_2$electrodes were respectively 370 and 150 mAh/g based on material weight. IIE of graphite and LiCo/O$_2$electrodes were respectively 93∼94 % and 94∼95 %, and IICs of graphite and LiCo/O$_2$electrodes were 15∼17 mAH/g and 0.3∼1.7 mAh/g, respectively. IIE of graphite/LiCo/O$_2$full cell for GX25 and DJG311 as graphite showed 89∼90 %, which IIE value was lower than IIE of half cell of the cathode and the anode. Parameters of IIE and IIC$_{s}$ can also be used to represent not only half cell but also full cell. The characteristics of the full cell can be simulated through the correlative interpretation of potential profile, IIE, and IIC$_{s}$ of half cells.cells.
A Si-CuO-graphite composite was prepared by a mechanical alloying (MA) method. The Si-CuO composite has a mixture structure, where CuO is homogeneously dispersed in Si. Also, $Cu_2O$ and $Cu_3Si$ phases were formed during MA and heat treatment. Graphite with the Si-CuO composite was mixed in the same mill for 30 minutes with weight ratio of Si-CuO composite and graphite as 1:1. The Si-CuO composite was homogeneously covered with graphite. SiC phase was not formed. Electrochemical tests of the composite have been investigated, and the first charge and discharge capacities of the material were about 870mAh/g and 660mAh/g, respectively. Those values are about 76% of the first cycle efficiency. The cycle life of the composite showed that the initial discharge capacity of 660 mAh/g could be maintained up to 92% after 20 cycles.
Lithium vanadium phosphate, $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3$ was prepared by a simple solid state route. It was found that making a fine powder of $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3$ by the mechanical milling is very effective for increasing the insertion/extraction of lithium from $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3$ structure. In charge/discharge test, the ball-milled $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3$ sample exhibited a higher initial discharge capacity of 174 mAh/g in the voltage range of 3.0-4.8 V, compared with pure $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3$ sample (152 mAh/g). Furthermore, the ball-milled $Li_3V_2(PO_4)_3$ presented not only higher cycle retention rate after 50 cycles, but also better rate capability compared with pure sample in the whole region (0.1-7 C).

Poly (sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS) is ionomer based on polystyrene that is electrical conductivity and isoviscosity. LiFePO4 has been a promising electrode material however its poor conductivity limits practical application. To enhance the electronic conductivity of LiFePO4, in this study we prepared LiFePO4- PSS composite by the hydrothermal method. LiFePO4 was heated at $170^{\circ}C$ for 12h and then different wt% PSS (0%, 2.91%, 4.75%, 7.36%, 10%) are added to LiFePO4 and milled at 300rpm for 10h. And then the obtained powders were subsequently heated at $500^{\circ}C$ for 1h under argon flow. The cathode electrode were made from mixtures of LiFePO4-PSS: SP-270- PVDF in a weighting ratio 75%: 25%:5%. The electrochemical properties of LiFePO4- PSS/Li batteries were analyzed by cyclic voltammetry and charge/discharge tests. LiFePO4-C/Li battery with 4.75 wt% PSS displays discharge capacity of 128 mAh g-1 at room temperature that is considerably higher than pure LiFePO4/Li battery ( 113.48 mAhg-1).

$LiCoO_{2}$ thin films have received attention as cathodes of thin film microbatteries in these days. In this study, $LiCoO_{2}$ thin films are fabricated by a sol-gel spin coating method followed by a post-annealing process. The thermal decomposition behaviour of precursor is investigated by TG/DTA analysis. The change of crystallinity, microstructure and electrochemical properties of final films as the drying temperature changes are also studied by XRD, SEM and galvanostatic charge/discharge cycling test. The relationship between the discharge capacity and the drying temperature are intensively investigated in this work.

The fluorine-substituted $0.3Li_2MnO_3{\cdot}0.7Li[Mn_{0.60}Ni_{0.25}Co_{0.15}]O_{2-x}F_x$ cathode materials were synthesized by using the transition metal precursor, $LiOH{\cdot}H_2O$ and LiF. This was to facilitate the movement of lithium ions by forming more compact SEI layer and to reduce the dissolution of transition metals. The $0.3Li_2MnO_3{\cdot}0.7Li[Mn_{0.60}Ni_{0.25}Co_{0.15}]O_{2-x}F_x$ cathode material was sphere-shaped and each secondary particle had $10{\sim}15{\mu}m$ in size. The fluorine-substituted cathodes initially delivered low discharge capacity, but it gradually increased until 50th charge-discharge cycles. These results indicated that fluorine substitution gave positive effects on the structural stabilization and resistance reduction in materials.
