Soil contamination has continuously increased worldwide, thus the remediation for the contaminated soils has risen steadily. However, the consideration of ecological safety for the remediated soils and their agricultural uses has been very limited. Therefore, this study was to investigate the influences of selected environmentally-friendly agricultural materials, organic by-product fertilizer (OF), charcoal (CC), and biochar (BC), as soil conditioners for improving poor chemical properties of fuel-oil removed soil by land farming technique. Two different remediated soils, remediated soil A (RSA) and remediated soil B (RSB), were selected. Soil texture of both RSA and RSB was sandy loam. The chemical properties of RSA and RSB were as follows: soil pHs of 8.5 and 8.7, soil organic matter contents of 7.4 and 5.5g $kg^{-1}$, total nitrogen contents of 0.26 and 0.10g $kg^{-1}$, available phosphorus concentrations of 7.2 and 4.4mg $kg^{-1}$, and exchangeable calcium concentrations of 14.8 and $11.7cmol_c$$kg^{-1}$, respectively. Results of the properties were not reached for the optimal values for cultivating crops that were recommended by National Academy of Agricultural Science at Rural Development Administration in Korea. However, after applying OF, CC, and BC, the chemical properties of soils were selectively improved, which were that soil organic matter content and available phosphorus concentration increased, whereas the soil pH were not changed. In particular, the chemical properties were positively changed more with the application of 5.0% biochar. Thus, continuous management of the remediated soils with applying the eco-friendly agricultural materials can improve the quality of reme-diated soils.
This study was carried out to investigate the efficient in vitro mass propagation methods for juvenile sporophytes of Matteuccia struthiopteris. Chopped segments of pinnae, petiole and rhizome were cultured on 1/2MS with 0.1% activated charcoal. Among these explant sources only rhizome segments produced young sporophytes, regenerating vigorously on 1/2 MS medium. Adjusting sucrose concentration to 2% and supplement to $50mgL^{-1}$$NaH_2PO_4$ in 1/2MS medium proved to be more efficient for plant regeneration. Various combinations of growth regulators such as kinetin, BA, NAA, and IBA were added to the growing media, and the best sporophyte regeneration was obtained by $1{\mu}M$ kinetin. The BA addition resulted in vigorous proliferation of meristematic tissues, but without differentiation to sporophytes. Three types of culture methods, solid using agar, liquid stationary, and liquid shaking culture, were employed with or without activated charcoal. The addition of 0.1% activated charcoal to modified 1/2MS media (2% sucrose, $50mgL^{-1}$$NaH_2PO_4$, $1{\mu}M$ kinetin, pH 5.8 and 0.8% agar) yielded highest sporophyte regeneration in liquid shaking culture.

Objectives: With the evolution of direct reading sensors, it is possible to monitor several substances through telecommunication. However, there are some limitations on the use of direct reading technologies in the Occupational Safety and Health Act in South Korea, which only applies to detector tubes, noise, heat, and carbon monoxides. The number of chemicals and their amount of use have been continuously increasing in South Korea. The Ministry of Employment and Labor (MoEL) has concerns about worker's health because exposure is only covered for about 1.2% of all distributed chemicals. Using a direct reading monitor with photoionization detectors (PID-DRMs), gases and vapors chemicals can be measured. Based on the data, business owners are able to create corrective strategies, provide better working routines, and select correct respiratory equipment. PID-DRMs are less expensive and easier to handle for an owner voluntarily controlling chemicals emitted in the workplace. However, there are several limitations on using these PID-DRMs to the degree that the MoEL has not been able to select a legal monitor. The aim of this study was to review previous studies related to PID-DRMs and identify the characterization and limitation on PID-DRMs. Methods: To search for related studies on PID-DRMs, key words were used including direct reading monitors/instruments and/or photoionization detectors. Through that, four domestic and 15 international studies were reviewed. Results: Studies on PID-DRMs were conducted by chamber (enclosed, dynamic, walk-in) and in the field (experimental environment, actual environment). The concentration of PID-DRMs and charcoal tubes were compared for a single substance or mixture, or within the PID-DRMs. There was a high correlation between the two concentrations, but it did not meet the accuracy criteria (95% confidence interval, within 25%) of the NIOSH technical report (2012). In addition, differences in measured values occurred according to environmental factors (temperature, humidity) and high concentration, and concentration values tended to be underestimated due to contamination of the sensor. As a way to improve the accuracy of PID concentration, it was proposed to use correction factors, charcoal tube-based correction factors, or to calibrate the PID-DRMs in the same environment as the workplace. Conclusions: PID-DRMs can likely be used by business owners for the purpose of voluntarily managing the workplace environment, and it is expected that it will be possible to use them as legal equipment if a PID sensor can be upgraded and the limitations of the sensor (temperature, humidity, high concentration evaluation, sensor pollution) can be overcome in the near future.
The purpose of this study were to investigate characteristic changes on nonwoven fabric for disposable work clothes by the yellow soil printing. It separate grind yellow soil as two different size of particles $45\sim52{\mu}m$ and $53\sim65{\mu}m$ for hand screen printing on three kind of nonwoven fabrics. To examine the effect of yellow soil printing on nonwoven fabric were to observe, dyeability by using spectrophotometer, moisture regain by oven method, air permeability, anion property and antibacterial activity. The results were as follows: When yellow soil concentration increased from 5 to 10%, K/S value also increased from 1.05 to 1.88. When yellow soil concentration increased, moisture regain also increased. In same concentration, moisture regain occurred higher as particle of small size. Air permeability decreased when the charcoal printing concentration increased. Anion occurrence appeared $140\sim160ion/cc$ from three different kinds of nonwoven fabrics in 3% and 9% yellow soil concentration. Therefore, occurred anion ineffectively. In concentration of 3%, rate of deodorization measured as 89%, 83% and 87%, and 9% concentration caused 96%, 86% and 93% of high deodorization. Antibacterial activity examination in nonfinished nonwoven fabric resulted range of 60%, however, 3% and 9% concentration finished nonwoven fabric resulted 99.9% of excellent antibacterial activity Surface temperature increased $1.5\sim2^{\circ}C$ by yellow soil finishing.
The optimal growth condition of in vitro stem cutting of Dendrobium nobile 'Hamana Lake Dream' ${\times}$ 'No. 55' was investigated. Among various media and their concentrations, MS media had better effect on the growth of micro stem cutting than Hyponex media in all concentration levels except stem length. The activated charcoal concentration in MS media showed different effects on number of stem and root, leaf length, and fresh weight: the most effective in the range of 0.1 to 1.0 g/L and barely effective above 2.0 g/L. Addition of agar 5 g/L, sucrose at 40 g/L, and peptone at 1 g/L to MS media increased significantly stem length, leaf width, and fresh weight, internode length and number of roots, and the number of stem and leaves. On the other hand, addition of gelite with any concentration had no effect on the growth of micro stem cutting compare to that of control. The optimal temperature for growth of micro stem cutting was $28^{\circ}C$. Under the same temperature, MS medium was better than Hyponex medium for the growth of stem. In addition, sucrose at 40 g/L was the most effective on growth at $28^{\circ}C$.
For the ambient monitoring of acrylamide, the adequate condition of sampling and analysis was checked. The adequate adsorbents and desorption solvents were tested. The combination of charcoal tube as a adsorbent and acetone as a desorption solvent showed 87% desorption efficiency. Flame ionization detector was used to detect acrylamide. The detection limit was 0.814 mg acrylamide in 1 L acetone. It is the equivalent concentration of 0.0203 mg acrylamide in $1m^3$ air if the volume of air collected was 40L. The permissible exposure level (PEL) of acrylamide in the workplace air recommended by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA, USA) is 0.3 mg acrylamide in $1m^3$ air. So, it is very simple and economic analytical method for acrylamide to be set in the industrial hygiene laboratories.
This work is on the synthesis of EMI-$BF_4$ (1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate) and purification of spectroscopic grade using aluminium oxide method, activated charcoal method, and liquid/liquid fractional extraction method in order to make supercapacitor finally. But the aluminum oxide method and the activated charcoal method were not suitable for obtaining high-purity ionic liquids. The liquid/liquid fractional distillation method turned out that as the concentration of solvent ($H_2O$) was increased, the higher purity of EMI-$BF_4$ was obtained and the electrical capacity of this compound was increased to higher value. When the solvent was changed to from methylene chloride to 1,2-dichloroethane, the higher purity of EMI-$BF_4$ was obtained.
This study was conducted to develop the efficient propagation method of fern Phyllitis scolopendrium using In vitro culture. The influence of the origin of the donor explant sources (rhizome, stipe, three parts of blade) and the homogenization of explants was investigated. Rhizome and stipe explants showed the organogenic capacity among the five explant sources and plant regeneration was promoted by homogenization of culture material. Optimum condition for vigorous and excellent growth of multiple shoots was the half-strength MS medium with 1% sucrose concentration. Generally, addition of $NaH_2PO_4$ to media enhanced shoot multiplication. The highest rate of shoot proliferation was observed on the media containing $5{\mu}M$ NAA. Also, combination of activated charcoal $(0.1{\sim}0.2%)$ and growth regulators to growth medium prevented the formation of multiple bud primordia, 'nodule'-like bud clusters and improved the normal morphogenesis of sporopytes in P. scolopendrium.
In this study, the changes in collection efficiencies due to the time changes of activated carbons were ascertained, and in order to identify the magnitude of adsorption, the before-use and after-use iodine adsorption values were analyzed. In addition, as a result of examining the characteristics of continuous process and non-continuous process and as a result of investigating whether the emission standards would be maintained, the continuous process and printing facilities were seen as not being able to maintain the emission standards. Also were found, in the case of non-continuous process,-taking into consideration the special nature of the job -for 4${\o}$ palletized charcoal, a collection efficiency near 50% was shown even after 96 hours. Also, when the inlet concentration was about 300ppm, it is thought that the emission standards would be maintained if the activated carbons are replaced within at least 96 hours in the case of 4${\o}$ palletized charcoal and the use was deemed pointless in the case of carbon. The results of this study are expected to provide assistance in selecting replacement periods for activated carbons and in selecting absorbents at the project sites, and are expected to be of significant help in the selection of precipitators that can collect total hydrocarbons for compliance of the emission standards.
In recent tests using tracer have been frequently conducted by fluorescent tracers. In this study, granular activated charcoal (GAC) as a detector for the fluorescent tracers (rhodamine WT and uranine) was investigated through laboratory and field tests. In the laboratory tests, tracer concentrations of rhodamine WT and uranine determined by the GAC were slightly different from those of standard solutions but they were excellent in linearity. Results show that GAC is excellent as tracer detector when concentration of the fluorescent tracers is greater than 10 & micro; g/L whileas no obvious differences in mixed solutions of the two tracers due to interferences. Compared to conventional methods of water sampling, field results shows a high potential of GAC as a tracer in the field. Our results also show that wet analysis is better for the lower concentrations of tracers whileas dry analysis is good for high concentrations of tracers. This study demonstrates that fluorescent tracer detection using the GAC is very useful and economical for a hydraulic connection between target areas and very longer period of the tracer test.
