For this, this study utilized 2,000 total samples of the survey conducted by MLIT in Japan, because Japan has experienced a low birth rate and aging population earlier and actively promoting urban rural exchange program than South Korea. The result of the analysis is as follows. First, the needs for rural life of urban dwellers are similar both in Japan and South Korea. However, Japanese prioritize future efforts to current efforts. Second, urban dwellers' activities in rural areas were classified into three categories; field trips and hands-on activities, cruise and circulating activities, and leisure activities. Third, similarly three types of visit or intercourse of urban dwellers into rural areas were classified; repeatedly visit the same place as 'iterative type', visit a new place as 'new pioneer type', and not yet determined as 'undefined type'. Variables such as age of household, income, number of inmate, and number of children were analyzed linked to these three types of visit or intercourse in a Discriminant analysis. As a result, only 'age of household', however, turned out to be the crucial factor which influence decisively distinguishing characteristics of these three types of visit into rural areas.

  • This study categorizes and identifies the characteristics of the living areas of rural dwellers through cluster analysis using mobile floating population data. As a result, rural areas in Korea were classified into 34 rural living areas, and 5 types of rural living areas were derived. Although the 'Suburban in Mega City Areas' and 'Suburban in Regional City Areas' derived through this study have advantages in terms of accessibility to large cities, they are important for rural space management as they can undermine the unique values of rural areas due to urban expansion. In addition, 'Unclassified areas' have low accessibility in the national space, and there is a need to provide their own settlement environment. The population of rural areas in Korea exhibited a phenomenon of widespread migration. This means that rural residents who depend on metropolitan areas are provided with SOC beyond administrative boundaries. Therefore, there is a need to move away from establishing a homogeneous regional plan that does not consider population movement. Through this study, it was possible to understand the rural living area formed by the population movement occurring in the rural area. This is different in that the existing studies classified the national space based on the interconnectedness between regions, beyond the limitations of categorizing regions with homogeneous characteristics based on endogenous indicators. At this point in time when the need for a rural space plan is emphasized, it is important to understand the living area of rural dwellers and to design an appropriate rural plan. Therefore, the establishment of a rural plan suitable for the region using the results of this study can increase the efficiency of the project for revitalization of the rural area and contribute to the creation of an attractive national space.

  • The purpose of this research was to analyze the correlation of residential satisfaction and the size of housing unit in apartment housing through the case study of 1,619 samples of 36 housing estates. The contents of this research consisted of two main parts. The first part was to identify the differences of residential satisfaction of dwellers, based on the size of housing unit, in apartment housing. The second part was to analyze the characteristics of residential environment, which might have an influence on the differences of residential satisfaction. the findings of this study were that the residential satisfaction of dwellers was proportional to the size of housing unit except $39m^2$ under housing unit, and the size of housing unit was not proportional to the residential satisfaction of outdoor openness exactly, but the size of housing unit was proportional to increase of the distance between building and building, and decrease of the building surface coverage ratio to outdoor area. This research will contribute to the establishment of the site planning methods which increase residential satisfaction in apartment housing, while promoting the quality of residential environment in Korea.

  • Workshops and discussions on the community planning process and visions for the future have progressed with the cooperation of the administration, citizens and specialists. However, they require a technical proof. For this reason, it is difficult to achieve a standard, whereby city dwellers are satisfied. In this study, the Delphi method was selected as a support tool, and an attempt was made to grasp the intentions and interests of city dwellers. Then, the community planning process was applied by using the Delphi method for urban areas with sparse identification. Participants were residents and commuters in the target areas. Categories were 'environment', 'community' and 'cultural sensibility'. For reducing the cost and time taken by investigators, and to enable those living in the community to participate in voluntaries and flexibility, we used a web survey as an investigation method. As a result, we could express the regional characteristics, problems and community planning intentions of city dwellers. The results suggested the validity of web surveys in regional evaluation, and explained the visions for the future and response attitudes, as well as the existence of a new identification that gives consideration to voluntary and flexibility of participation.
