  • Channel estimation in OFDM systems is usually carried out in frequency domain based on the least-squares (LS) method and the minimum mean-square error (MMSE) method with known pilot symbols. The LS estimator has a merit of low complexity but may suffer from the noise because it does not consider any noise effect in obtaining its solution. To enhance the noise immunity of the LS estimator, we consider estimation noise in time domain. Residual noise existing at the estimated channel coefficients in time domain could be reduced by reasonable selection of a threshold value. To achieve this, we propose a channel-estimation method based on a time-domain threshold which is a standard deviation of noise obtained by wavelet decomposition. Computer simulation shows that the estimation performance of the proposed method approaches to that of the known-channel case in terms of bit-error rates after the Viterbi decoder in overall SNRs.

  • In this paper, we propose a method of loaming user preference for set-top box scenario. Our proposed method analyzes user history data to learn user preference and then automatically suggest the list of TV programs to the user under the assumption that the TV programs are regularly repeated on time and daily basis. We used MPEG-7 MDS to describe user history data. The experiment results show the proposed method yielded a good performance.

  • In this paper, we propose the method to extract the important frequency bands from the EMG signal, and for generation of feature vector using the important frequency bands. The EMG signal is measured with 4 sensor and is recorded as 4 channel’s time series data. The same frequency bands from 4 channel’s frequency components are selected as the important frequency bands. The feature vector is calculated by the function formed using the combination of selected same important frequency bands. The EMG signals acquired from seven wrist motion type are recognized by changing into the feature vector formed. Then, the extraction and generation is performed by using the double combination of the genetic algorithm (GA) and the neural network (NN). Finally, in order to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, computer simulations are done.

  • There is a new evolution in technological advancement taking place called the Internet of Things (IoT), The IoT enables physical world objects in our surrounding to be connected to the Internet. ISM (Industrial Scientific Medical) band that is 2.4GHz band authorized free of charge is being widely used for smart devices. Accordingly studies have been continuously conducted on the possibility of coexistence among nodes using ISM band. In particular, the interference of IEEE 802.11b based Wi-Fi devices using overlapping channel during communication among IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless sensor nodes suitable for low-power, low-speed communication using ISM band. Because serious network performance deterioration of wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we will propose an algorithm that identifies the possibility of using more accurate channels by mixing utilization of interference signal and RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) Min/Max/Activity of Interference signal by wireless sensor nodes. In addition, it will verify our algorithm by using OPNET Network verification simulator.

  • According to an evolution of digital broadcasting, it is possible that terrestrial and satellite broadcasting media provide multi-channel services. CATV and satellite media have been also extended to hundreds of channels. As the result of channel expanding, viewers came to select lots of channels. But it is difficult that they select the favorite channel among hundreds of channels. In this paper, we propose an efficient automatic method to recommend channels and programs on a viewer's preference in a multi-channel broadcasting receiver like a Set ToP Box(STB). The proposed algorithm selects channels based on the following method. It makes and saves user history data by using MPEG-7 MDS based on the program information a viewer had watched. It recommends programs similar to a viewer's preference based on user history data. It selects the channel in the recommended genre based on the viewer's channel preference. The experimental result shows that the proposed scheme is efficient to select the user preference channel.

  • This paper presents a novel user selection method based on the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR), which is approximated using limited feedback data at the base stations (BSs) of multiple user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) systems. In the proposed system, the codebook vector index, the quantization error obtained from the correlation between the measured channel and the codebook vector, and the measured value of the largest singular value are fed back from each user to the BS. The proposed method not only generates precoding vectors that are orthogonal to the precoding vectors of the previously selected users and are highly correlated with the codebook vector of each user but also adopts the quantization error in approximating the SINR, which eventually provides a significantly more accurate SINR than the conventional SINR-based user selection techniques. Computer simulations show that the proposed method enhances the sum rate of the conventional SINR-based methods by at least 2.4 (2.62) bps/Hz when the number of transmit antennas and number of receive antennas per user terminal is 4 and 1(2), respectively, with 100 candidate users and an SNR of 30 dB.

  • In this paper, we propose a user selection method to maximize the sum-rate of downlink over opportunistic beamforming. The throughput of an opportunistic beamforming with non-uniformly distributed or a small number of users can decrease. In order to improve the throughput, we propose a scheduling method that does not use SINR or SNR but uses the effective channel gain of each user obtained from the SINR or SNR feedback. The proposed method makes it possible to select users flexibly according to the distribution of users. In numerical results, we show that the proposed methods improve the average sum-rate about 60% when users are distributed non uniformly.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the input methods of the numeric keypads that are widely used in various types of consumer and industrial electronic products. Three methods to enter numerals using keypads were compared: (1) Machine Intelligence, (2) + 100 key, and (3) Enter key input methods. Experiments were conducted to compare these three input methods for the channel selection of TV. Experimental prototypes which simulate TV user interfaces were developed using $RAPID^{TM}$ for usability testings. In the experiment, data on subject performance such as completion time, operational errors, and user interaction were collected through auto-logging method and video recording. After each test session, subjective preference was also asked using a questionnaire. In order to analyze the type of operation errors and the error causation, operation sequences were analyzed from the collected data. The Enter key input method showed better performance than other input methods. Based on these results. we can conclude that the input method using numeric keypads should be compatible with generic number counting(to input ch 7, it would be better to input 7 directly than to input 07 or 007) and should switch the channel as quickly as possible. This conclusion can be applied to the design of user interfaces which require numeral inputs.

  • To provide more qualified data service on the HFC(Hybrid-Fiber Coaxial) access network, the channel characteristics of upstream transmission band should be carefully investigated and analysed. It will be easier to do network management if the monitoring system for noise measurement in the network is available, In this paper, noise analysis method and the frequency selection method in the upstream band for duplex transmission are suggested. And, Data aquisition device for the signal measurement Is implemented. With this network monitoring system, field test and the result from the collected data are described.

  • This paper presents a simple method to implement a complete on-line portable wireless holter including an electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring, processing, and communication protocol. The proposed algorithm significantly reduces the hardware resources of threshold estimation for ECG compression, using the standard deviation updated with each new input signal sample. The new method achieves superior performance in terms of hardware complexity, channel occupation and memory requirements, while keeping the ECG quality at a clinically acceptable level.
