  • A polarization-independent multiwavelength-switchable fiber filter is proposed based on a polarization beam splitter and fiber coupler, which can function as a polarization-independent transmission or reflection-type interleaving filter. The proposed filter consists of a polarization beam splitter and a Sagnac birefringence loop composed of a 50:50 coupler, high birefringent fibers, and two quarter-wave plates. In the proposed filter, a transmission-type interleaver with a channel isolation > 18 dB or a reflection-type one with a channel isolation of ${\sim}3$ dB, whose channel spacing and switching displacement were 0.8 and 0.4 nm in common, respectively, could be obtained. A channel interleaving operation could be performed by the proper control of waveplates within the Sagnac birefringence loop.

  • By incorporating a polarization beam splitter and fiber coupler, we propose a fiber-optic multiwavelength-switchable interleaving filter that can function as a polarizaiton-independent transmission or reflection-type one. The proposed filter consists of a polarizaiton beam splitter and a Sagnac birefringence loop that is composed of a 50:50 coupler, polarizaiton-maintaining fibers, and two quarter-wave plates. In the proposed filter, a transmission-type filter with a channel isolation > 18[dB] or a reflection-type one with a channel isolation ~3[dB], whose channel spacing and switching displacement were 0.8 and 0.4[nm] in common, respectively, could be obtained. Channel interleaving operation could be performed by the proper control of waveplates within the Sagnac birefringence loop.

  • Fiber-optic comb filters using a side-polished fiber coupler are proposed as multi-channel isolation filters on wavelength division multiplexing systems. We have demonstrated that the coupling efficiency between two waveguides is improved by the intermediate coupling layer in spite of the decrease of the optical power transfer between two waveguides due to the high-order modes of the overlay waveguide coupled with the side-polished single-mode fiber. When LiNbO$_3$with a 200-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$-thickness was applied as a planar-overlay-waveguide, the comb filtering characteristics with a 4 nm-channel-spacing were achieved and the maximum power coupling occurred at the 1-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$-thickness and the refractive index in range 1.52 to 1.53 of an intermediate coupling layer. If the intermediate coupling layer is optimized, an extinction ratio with more than 20 dB can be obtained. These experimental results are in good agreement with the BPM simulation.

  • We propose and theoretically analyze multi-functional integrated optical device based on figure-eight shaped birefringent Sagnac loops. Our analysis shows that the propose device exhibit many unique features which allows it to operate as a tunable high-Q comb filter with a good channel isolation, and the intensity transmission of the filter can be varied from zero to 100 percent.

  • To prevent the critical situation due to the fault in the aircraft sensor system, the fault tolerant system with triple or quadruple redundancy can be made. However, if the faults are occurred in two or more than sensors simultaneously, the conventional fault detection process, such as cross-channel monitoring, may give the wrong fault alarm. For this case, we can detect the fault by estimating the state vector based on the system dynamics model, which is nonlinear for aircraft. In this paper, we propose the unscented Kalman filter to estimate the nonlinear state vector. This filter utilizes the so-called unscented transformation of sigma points featured the statistical characteristics of the random variable. For verification, we perform the simulations for F-16 aircraft with accelerometers, gyros, GPS and air data system.

  • Fault detection and isolation (FDI) algorithms provide fault monitoring methods in GPS measurement to isolate abnormal signals from the GPS satellites or the acquired signal in receiver. In order to monitor the occurred faults, FDI generates test statistics and decides the case that is beyond a designed threshold as a fault. For such problem of fault detection and isolation, this paper presents and evaluates position domain integrity monitoring methods by formulating various pseudorange prediction methods and investigating the resulting test statistics. In particular, precise measurements like carrier phase and Doppler rate are employed under the assumption of fault free carrier signal. The presented position domain algorithm contains the following process; first a common pseudorange prediction formula is defined with the proposed variations in pseudorange differential update. Next, a threshold computation is proposed with the test statistics distribution considering the elevation angle. Then, by examining the test statistics, fault detection and isolation is done for each satellite channel. To verify the performance, simulations using the presented fault detection methods are done for an ideal and real fault case, respectively.

  • In this paper, a 2-channel Image-Reject receiver using a 65-nm CMOS process is presented for Ka-band compact radars. The designed receiver consists of Low-Noise Amplifier (LNA), IQ mixer, and Analog Baseband (ABB). ABB includes a complex filter in order to suppress unwanted images, and the variable gain amplifiers (VGAs) in RF block and ABB have gain tuning range from 4.5-56 dB for wide dynamic range. The gain of the receiver is controlled by on-chip SPI controllers. The receiver has noise figure of <15 dB, OP1dB of >4 dBm, image rejection ratio of >30 dB, and channel isolation of >45 dB at the voltage gain of 36 dB, in the Ka-band target frequency. The receiver consumes 420 mA at 1.2 V supply with die area of 4000×1600 ㎛.

  • In this paper, we proposed the triplexer using unit-cell of CRLH transmission line which has a bandpass characteristic to reduce adjacent channel interference. The input impedance of triplexer with each channel filter is operated open-circuit at the resonance frequencies of other channels. Such property is due to the combination a series and parallel resonance circuits of CRLH-TL unit-cell. The measured triplexer results are showed a measured insertion loss of each channel, less than 1.5 dB, matching at each port, less than 15dB and isolation between channel, better than 25 dB. Also, to validate the triplexer, a small signal amplifier with triple-band is designed and tested. the measured amplifier results show good agreements with prediction.

  • In this paper, a GaAs MESFET single-ended resistive mixer with high linearity and isolation is designed. The bias voltage of this mixer is applied only gate of GaAs MESFET to use the channel resistance. The LO is applied the gate and the RF is applied the drain through 7-pole hairpin bandpass filter to obtain the proper isolation thru LO-RF. The IF is extracted from the source with short circuit and lowpass filter. Using extracted equivalent circuits for LO and RF, conversion loss is calculated and compared with result of harmonic balance analysis. Measured conversion loss of this S-band down converter mixer is 8.2~10.5dB by considering the measured 3.0~3.4dB RF 7-pole hairpin bandpass filter loss and IP3in is 26.5dBm at Vg=-0.85~-1.0V in distortion performance.

  • When the isolation between transmitter and receiver in Electronic Warfare equipment is not sufficient, the radiated noise jamming signal from the transmitter feeds back into the receiver and interferes with receiving radar pulse signal. Therefore pulse jamming and noise jamming can't be performed together in the same frequency bands. In this paper, we present a time-sharing TX/RX control technique of the switch matrix which inhibits the transmission of noise jamming signal by using the predicted gate of pulse train and also makes the corresponding channel filter operate to receive the radar pulse signal during the predicted gate pulse. This technique was implemented by EPLD and confirmed by experiment. The proposed technique enables the pulse jamming and the noise jamming to be simultaneously executed in multiple jamming environments.
