In bluetooth system, there are two kinds of interference. One is the frequency static interference, for example 802.11 direct sequence, the interferer uses fixed frequency band. Another is frequency dynamic interference, for example other piconets or 802.11 frequency hopping, the interferer uses dynamic frequency channel and cant be estimated. In this paper we introduce a novel solution of hybrid method of Listen-Before-Talk (LBT) and Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFH) to address the coexistence of bluetooth and Direct Sequence of wireless local area network (WLAN). Before any bluetooth packet transmission, in the turn around time of the current slot, both the sender and receiver sense the channel whether there is any transmission going on or not. If the channel is busy, packet transmission is withdrawn until another chance. This is the LBT in Bluetooth. Because of asymmetry sense ability of WLAN and bluetooth, AFH is introduced to combat the left front-edge packet collisions. In monitor period of AFH, LBT is performed to label the channels with static interference. Then, all the labeled noisy channels are not used in the followed bluetooth frequency hopping. In this way, both the frequency dynamic and frequency static interference are effectively mitigated. We evaluate the solution through packet collision analysis and a detail realistic simulation with IP traffic. It turns out that the hybrid method can combat both the frequency dynamic and frequency static interference. The packet collision analysis shows it almost doubles the maximal system aggregate throughput. The realistic simulation shows it has the least packet loss.

In this paper, we analyze and compare several co-channel interference mitigation algorithms for WBAN application in 2.4 GHz ISM frequency bands. ML (Maximum Likelihood), OC (Optimal Combining) and MMSE (Minimum Mean Square Error) has been considered for the possible techniques for interference cancellation in view of the trade off between the performance and the complexity of implementation. Based on the channel model of IEEE 802.15.6 standard, simulation results show that ML and OC attains the lower BER performance than that of MMSE if we assume the perfect channel estimation. But, ML and OC have the additional requirement of implementation for his own and other users's channel estimation process, hence, besides the BER performance, the complexity of implementation and the sensitivity to channel estimation error should be considered since it requires the simple and small sized equipment for WBAN system application. In addition, the gap of detection BER performance between ML, OC and MMSE is much decreased under the imperfect channel estimation if we adopt real channel estimation process, therefore, in order to apply to WBAN system, the trade off between the BER performance and complexity of implemetation should be seriously considered to decide the best co-channel interference cancellation for WBAN system application.
Wireless mesh networks can be deployed for various networks from home networking to last-mile broadband Internet access. Wireless mesh networks are composed of mesh routers and mesh clients. In these networks, static nodes form a multi-hop backbone of a large wireless access network that provides connectivity to end-users' mobile terminals. The network nodes cooperate with each other to relay data traffic to its destinations. In order to increase connectivity and better performance, researchers are getting interested in multi-channel and multi-interface wireless mesh networks. In these networks, non-overlapping multiple frequency channels are used simultaneously to increase the aggregate bandwidth available to end-users. Recently, researches have focused on finding suitable channel assignments for wireless network interfaces, equiped in a mesh node, together with efficient routing to improve overall system throughput in wireless mesh networks. This goal can be achieved by minimize channel interference. Less interference among using channels in a network guarantees more aggregated channel capacity and better connectivity of the networks. In this thesis, we propose interference aware channel assignment and routing algorithms for multi-channel multi-hop wireless mesh networks. We propose Channel Assignment and Routing algorithms using Traffic Profiles(CARTP) and Routing algorithms allowing detour routing(CARTP+2). Finally, we evaluate the performance of proposed algorithms in comparison to results from previous methods using ns-2 simulations. The simulation results show that our proposed algorithms can enhance the overall network performance in wireless mesh networks.
We consider a receiving node, located at the origin, and a Poisson point process (PPP) that models the locations of the desired transmitter as well as the interferers. Interference is known to be non-Gaussian in this scenario. The capacity bounds for additive non-Gaussian channels depend not only on the power of interference (i.e., up to second order statistics) but also on its entropy power which is influenced by higher order statistics as well. Therefore, a complete statistical characterization of interference is required to obtain the capacity bounds. While the statistics of sum of signal and interference is known in closed form, the statistics of interference highly depends on the location of the desired transmitter. In this paper, we show that there is a tradeoff between entropy power of interference on the one hand and signal and interference power on the other hand which have conflicting effects on the channel capacity. We obtain closed form results for the cumulants of the interference, when the desired transmitter node is an arbitrary neighbor of the receiver. We show that to find the cumulants, joint statistics of distances in the PPP will be required which we obtain in closed form. Using the cumulants, we approximate the interference entropy power and obtain bounds on the capacity of the channel between an arbitrary transmitter and the receiver. Our results provide insight and shed light on the capacity of links in a Poisson network. In particular, we show that, in a Poisson network, the closest hop is not necessarily the highest capacity link.
In distributed cognitive radio networks, cognitive radio devices which perform the channel sensing individually, are seriously affected by radio channel environments such as noise, shadowing and fading such that they can not property satisfy the maximum allowable interference level to the primary user. In the paper, we propose a Q-learning based channel access scheme for cognitive radios so as to satisfy the maximum allowable interference level to the primary user as well as to improve the throughput of cognitive radio by opportunistically accessing on the idle channels. In the proposed scheme, the pattern of channel usage of the primary user will be learned through Q-learning during the pre-play learning step, and then the learned channel usage pattern will be utilized for improving the sensing performance during the Q-learning normal operation step. Through the simulation, it is shown that the proposed scheme can provide bettor performance than the conventional energy detector in terms of the interference level to primary user and the throughput of cognitive radio under both AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels.

In this paper, we study single-user receiver, which applicable to DS-CDMA downlink. DS-CDMA downlink mainly use wallsh code, its orthogonality may be lost by the multiple access interference(MAI) caused by the multipath channel. In this paper, we use linear channel equalizer to eliminate the interference due to multipath channel and then to recover orthogonalit and use code-matched filter to detect transmitted data. Unlike existing research, which mainly assumed ideal channel information, we use pilot channel to estimate the channel coefficients. Especially we use guard symbols which are inserted periodically to estimate channel coefficients exactly without interference from user signal, and we accept an approximately ideal. The results show that improvement can be achieved using proposed detectors compared with that of that conventional RAKE receiver, especially when the user population is high we accepts excellent performance improvement.

In this paper, a new technique is proposed for obtaining the error probabilities of the VSB(vestigial sideband modulation) signal in the presence of the cochannel interference and frequency-selective fading channel. For the receivers, a suboptimal matched filter receiver and the MLSE(maximum likelihood sequence estimation) receiver, which is known to be optimal on the fading channel, are considered. First, for the matched filter receiver, the distributions of the random variables, which determine the SER(symbol error rate) are obtained by decomposing the multi-path fading channel into Rayleigh distributed main path and Gaussian distributed remained path channels. the random variables mean the energy of the main path and subpath respecitively, and SER can be calculated from the distribution of them. Next, for the case of the MLSE receover, it is found that the random variables are expressed as a function of integrals. In order to obtain the distribution for the random variables, we expanded each element of integrals with the KL(Karhunen-Loeve) transformation. And it is derived that the distributions for the transformed random variables are given by a sum of chi-square distributions. Finally, we calculated the error rate derived formula on the two-ray fading channel, which is one of widely used models for the frequency-selective fading channel. From the numerical results, it is found that for the matched filer receiver, performance degradation is significant, while the performance degradation at the MLSE receiver is insignificant on the frequency-selective fading channel. However, in case of cochannel interference environment, the error rateis found to increase significantly both at the matched filter and at the MLSE receiver.

This paper proposes a cooperative power allocation with the use of partial channel information (e.g., the average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and transmit correlation) in multi-cell dual-hop multi-input single-output (MISO) relay systems. In a dual-hop MISO relay channel, it is desirable to allocate the transmit power between dual-hop links to maximize the end-to-end capacity. We consider the maximization of the end-to-end capacity of a dual-hop MISO relay channel under sum-power constraint. The proposed scheme adaptively allocates the transmit power considering the average channel gain of the target relay and the transmit correlation of the desired and inter-relay interference channel from adjacent relays. It is shown by means of upper-bound analysis that the end-to-end capacity can be maximized by making the angle difference of the principal eigenvectors of the desired and inter-relay interference channel orthogonal in highly-correlated channel environments. Finally, the performance of the proposed scheme is verified by computer simulation.

The transmitted signal from a source is transmitted to a destination through wireless channels. But if the mobile destination is out of the coverage of the source or exists in the shady side of the coverage, the destination can not receiver the signal from the source and they can not maintain communication. In order to overcome these problems, we adopt relays. A system employing relays is a multi-hop relay system. In the multi-hop relay system, coverages of each relay that is used for different systems can overlap each other in some place. When there is a destination in this place, interference occurs at the destination. In this paper, we study on the efficient co-channel interference (CCI) cancellation algorithm. In the proposed strategy, CCI is mitigated by zero forcing (ZF) or minimum mean square error (MMSE) receivers. Moreover, successive interference cancellation (SIC) with optimal ordering algorithm is applied for rejecting CCI efficiently. And we analyzed and simulated the proposed system performance in Rayleigh fading channel. In order to justify the benefit of the proposed strategy, the overall system performance is illustrated in terms of bit error probability.

Iterative decision feedback equalizer (IDFE) is a recursive equalization technique that can help to achieve an additional performance gain for the system by combining iterative channel decoding and interference cancellation. In a single carrier-based system, the intersymbol interference (ISI) is a critical problem that must be resolved since it causes frequency selective fading. Based on the idea of sharing the estimated information in the process of iteration, IDFE is considered as an efficient solution to improve the robustness of the system performance on the ISI channel. In this paper, the IDFE is applied on single carrier FDMA (SC-FDMA) system to evaluate the performance under ISI channel. The simulation results illustrate that IDFE helps to improve the performance of the SC-FDMA system, especially with long delay spread channels.
