Low power laser and neuromuscular electrical stimulation have been utilized in many clinical applications for the treatment of musculoskeletal lesion. This study was to investigate the effects of low power He-Ne IR laser and neuromuscular electrical stimulation on the change of the serum biochemical components in experimentally induced muscle injured rats. The twenty Sprague-Dawley male rats were randomly assigned to the 4 groups: the normal group (n=5), the control group (n=5), the low power laser irradiation group (LLI) (n=5) and the neuromuscular electrical stimulation group (NMES) (n=5). The experimentally induced muscle injury was induced by the subcutaneous injection of a 0.1 ml Freund's Complete Adjuvant into the right hind paw and calf muscles in control, LLI and NMES groups. The LLI group was irradiated with He-Ne IR laser for 5 minutes every day during 10 days. Also, the NMES group was electrically stimulated 15 minutes every day during 10 days. The normal and control groups were not received with any therapeutic intervention. The authors performed tests which were the concentration of the serum biochemical components to detect the effects of therapeutic interventions. The results were as follows: 1. The level of the aspartate aminotransferase (AST) was significantly decreased in the LLI and NMES groups compare to the control group. 2. The level of the serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) was significantly decreased in the LLI and NMES groups compare to the control group. 3. The level of the serum creatine kinase (CK) was significantly decreased in the LLI and NMES groups compare to the control group. From the results, we could come to the conclusion that low power laser and neuromuscular electrical stimulation could be accelerating healing processes of skeletal muscle injury and further clinical work will be required.
This study was taken to examine serum components concentrations and electrophoretic patterns of female tilapia(Oreochromis niloticus) living in 0$\textperthousand$, 10$\textperthousand$, 20$\textperthousand$, and 30$\textperthousand$ salt concentrations, respectively. The results obtained in these experiments were summarized as follows. The level of albumin and total protein showed changes in each salinity, but didn't significantly(P<0.05) change in Oreochromis niloticus. The level of BUN didn't significantly(P<0.05) change. When fish were adapted from 0$\textperthousand$ to 10$\textperthousand$, 20$\textperthousand$ and 30$\textperthousand$, each calcium level in every salinity groups showed less than that of control, and didn't significantly change in 10$\textperthousand$, 20$\textperthousand$, 30$\textperthousand$ salinity. The level of calcium didn't significantly(P<0.05) change in each salinity. In 20$\textperthousand$ salinity, the level of cholesterol was at the highest peak. When fish were adapted from 0$\textperthousand$ to 10$\textperthousand$, 20$\textperthousand$ and 30$\textperthousand$, each glucose level gradually decreased. When fish were adapted from 0$\textperthousand$ to 10$\textperthousand$, 20$\textperthousand$ and 30$\textperthousand$, each glucose level gradually decreased. When fish were adapted from 0$\textperthousand$ to 10$\textperthousand$, 20$\textperthousand$ and 30$\textperthousand$. In 30$\textperthousand$ salinity, the level of alkaline phosphatase was at the highest peak. The level of serum enzyme such as SGOT and SGPT was higher in seawater-adapted group than in freshwater group. The level of phosphorus chnage significantly(P<0.05) in each salinity. Correlation coefficient between serum albumin and glucose in 0$\textperthousand$ was +0.924. Correlation coefficient between serum SGOT and SGPT of individuals in 0$\textperthousand$ was +0.917. Fraction 1 of transferrin patterns of tilapia(Oreochromis niloticus) adapted in seawater was much thicker than that of transferrin patterns of individuals adapted in freshwater. Also fraction No. a wasn't observed in some individuals adapted in freshwater. These results showed that transferrin adapted in seawater relatively increased. Slight differences, that is, showed to be observed in total iron binding capacityand iron saturatin rate between tilapia adapted in freshwater and in seawater. The increase in total iron binding capacity was attributed to a rise in transferrin pressent in the first fraction of serum protein adapted in seawater. Accordingly, the serum iron levles seemed to be related to salinity($\textperthousand$).
This studies were to investigate the effects of low power intensity Helium-Neon Infra-Red(He-Ne IR) laser on the changes of the serum immunoglobulin(1g) components in burn rats, The fourty eight Spraque-Dawley adult male rats were assigned to the 8 groups: the experimental groups(4), the burn control groups(2) and the control groups(2) There was made three degree burn by the 250mW IR on the back of each rats, from 3 days after being burned, the experimental laser groups were irradiated low power He-Ne IR laser for 3 minutes and 4.5 minutes every day during the 7days and 21 days. The results were as follows: The concentrations of immunoglobulin G(Ig G) in serum of burn rats on the treated with during the 3minutes laser for 7 days were higher than those of burn and 4.5 minutes laser groups. There were significantly decreased the change of the level of immunoglobulin M(Ig M) in serum of burn rats on the treated with 3 minutes laser for 7 days to the control group, but were significantly increased on the 3minutes and 4.5 minutes laser groups for 21 days to the those of burn and control groups, and the levels of the Ig M on the 3minutes laser group for 21 days were higher than those of 7 days. The concentrations of immunoglobulin E(Ig E) in serun of the burn rats on the experimental and burn groups were significantly lower than those in control group. As above results, The changes of the level of immonoglobulin components in serum have meaningful role in the healing process on the treated with the low pewer intensity of HE-Ne IR laser.
Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were treated with ultrasonic (40kHz) and microbubble. The organic serum components, glucose were decreased compared to control at microbubble single treatment (M) and ultrasonic treatment (UL), but glucose concentrations in fish serum of all experimental groups analyzed in this study were also within the normal range. The organic serum components, cholesterol and total protein were no significant change by ultrasonic and microbubble treatment. There were no significant changes in the lysozyme activity on ultrasonic and microbubble treatment. Serum bactericidal activity decreased on ultrasonic single treatment (UL) compared to the control (P<0.05), but the numbers of bacterial colonies were significantly lower than those in the negative (PBS). The results of this study indicate that ultrasonic and microbubble treatment did not have a critical effect on the serum composition and innate immunity of O. mykiss, and that it is a way to do not significant stress on the fish body as a countermeasure against sea lice.
This paper was performed to investigate the effect of dietary fiber and Chlorella added diets on serum composition of blood and histopathological change of liver and kidney in male rats. As the result, pectin added diets have an effect of decrease a serum, cholesterol and lipid of the tissue.
This experiment was designed to observe some influence on the serum components in rats by feeding basal diet (Protein contents: 20.0%; lipid contents: 3.5%) with soft water (Water, Carbonated cider, Cola and Fanta). Fourty male Albino rats were used as the experimental animals and the subjects were devided into four feeding group and each group was fed on the corresponding diet for six weeks. The contents of protein, lipid and cholesterol were determined in their serum. The obtained results are summarized as follows. 1) The protein contents in the serum was decreased by the feeding of the Carbonated cider, Cola and Fanta compared with Water experimental group. 2) The lipid contents in the serum was similar to each feeding experimental group. 3) The total cholesterol and ester form cholesterol in the serum were decreased by the feeding of the Carbonated cider compared with Water, but were similar to the feeding of the Cola and Fanta.
This study aimed to determine the effects of adrenalectomy on the sexual gland, the thyroid gland and the serum components. A total of 192 Wister strain albino rats were evenly divided into 4 sexually equal groups for the comparisons. Each groups was divided into a control and a treatment group by sexuality. Each tissue of the sexual gland and the thyroid gland was microscopically examined, and at the same time body weight and serum components were also examined on the 1st, 7th, 14th, 28th, 42nd, 56th, 70th and 84th day respectively following adrenalectomy. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The body weight was sufficiently retarded in decreasingly after the adrenalectomy as compared to that of control. 2. The histological change of testis started atrophy of spermatogonia and degeneration of spermatocyte. There was a, pp.ared no cell division activity. Spermatozoa in the seminiferous tuble was not noticed but degeneration of interstitial cell was started and spermatozoa in the epididymal duct disa, pp.ared. 3. Degeneration of oocyte and follicular cell was noticed as the histological change of ovary. There was not a, pp.arance of primary follicle and corpus Iuteum but interstitial cell was proliferated. 4. For the effect of adrenalectomy on the histological change of the thyroid gland, the number of small follicle decreased and that of large follicle increased as the time passed following the adrenalectomy. And the follicular epithelial cell became squamous as typical condition of functional decreased. 5. It was shown that in the total contents of serum protein no difference with control occurred with in the 70th day for male and female adrenalectomized, respectively. But the differences in protein contents were significanly decreased on the 70th day. 6. No difference occurred in the total serum lipids on the 7th day, but they decreased significantly on the 42nd day, and (P<0.01) on the 56th, and 70th day. A tendency to decrease was noted as time elapsed following adrenalectomy. 7. Increase and decrease were intercrossed in the serum cholesterol contents between the control and th treatment groups on the 28th day. But the difference significantly decreased on the 42nd, 56th, and 70th day after adrelalectomized. The contents showed tendency to decrease as time elapsed following adrenalectomy. 8. The blood glucose contents rapidly decreased with time. The difference were significant on the 28th and 42nd day, and highly significant on the 56th and 70th day for male adrenalectomized. 9. In case of solium, there was no noticeable sexual distinction. There was slight in creasing or decreasing for the control group. But the treatment group tended continuously to decrease for male and female. 10. It was shown that potassium contents tended to increase on the 28th day for male and female, but the differences were small. 11. As for chlorine, it tended to decrease rapidly on 7th day for male and female adrenalectomized, and the tendency continued.
This study was to investigate the effect on weight control and changes in serum glucose, total protein , GPT, GOT , cholesterol, triglyceride, calcium, and phosphorus contents of seventeen overweight female college students during experimental periods [before grape diet(0 day-, after grape diet (3 day), after control diet(3 day), after normal diet(30 day)]. The mean weight, height , BMI, and Rohrer index of the subjects at the onset of the study was 58.91$\pm$5.22kg, 159.94$\pm$6.01cm, 22.96$\pm$1.17, and 20.06$\pm$1.48 respectively. During the study subjects, conducted grape diets, control diets, and normal diets to control their weight. They analyzed their changes in anthrophometric variables. The mean weight was significantly decreased from 58.29$\pm$7.85kg to 57.2$\pm$8.23kg after normal diet(p<0.05). Therefore BMI (body mass index) and Rohrer index was also significantly decreased after experimental periods. The analysis of dietary intake showed that the grape diet induced unbalanced low nutrient intake, but the intake of total calories and other nutrients were almost recovered their onset of the study during control and normal diets. The concentration of serum glucose, cholesterol, triglyceride GOT, and GTP were significantly(p<0.05) decreased and significantly(p<0.05) increased again during experimental periods. Calcium concentrations were not affected by grape diet, but phosphorus concentration was significantly reduced after grape and control diet.
The blood components of diabetic patients who visited S- hospital in seoul from January 1982 to June 1983 were compared with the reference levels. Hemoglobin and hematocrit levels of diabetic patients were significantly lower than the reference. The diabetic patients showed 2-3 times higher levels of fasting blood glucose and postprandial -2 hours blood sugar. Levels of blood urine nitrogen and creatine were also significantly higher in the diabetes mellitus and the levels of potassium sodium and chlorine showed no differences although these were decreased gradually in older patients. Lower serum calcium levels were seen in the diabetic patients and this change was more significant at the ages higher than 40. The effect of an active vitamin D on serum-Ca level in diabetic patients was studied in comparison to that of non- diabetic persons. The serum calcium levels were slightly increased in control and insulin- dependent diabetic patients after a week- intake of 1,000mg calcium a day, while the intake of 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol ( 1,000 IU per day ) did not increase the serum calcium levels of these groups. Insulin - independent diabetic patients showed the rather lower serum calcium levels after a week- intake of 1,000mg calcium per day. However, the levels were increased after 2-weeks intake of the calcium and a week-in-take of the active vitamin D(1,000 IU/day ). This effect of vitamin D was seen in the groups with lower intake of calcium(500mg/day ) but not in the groups with 1,000mg calcium intake a day.
This experiment was designed to observe some influence on the serum components of growing rats maintained with basal diet supplemented with sausage. Forty male Albino rats were used as the experimental animals and the subjects were divided into four diet groups (control group; feeding of basal diet containing 10.8% and 10.4% of protein and lipid respectively, A group; feeding of sausage containing 12.5% and 27.6% of protein and lipid respectively supplemented with basal diet every day, B group; feeding of sausage supplemented with basal diet once a three-day and C group; feeding of sausage supplemented with basal diet once a five-day) and each group was fed on the corresponding diet for forty-days. The contents of protein, lipid and cholesterol in their serum were determined. The result obtained are summarized as follows: 1) The final body weight and liver weight of the A group were increased more than other groups. 2) The protein contents in the serum of the B group was increased more than other groups. 3) The total lipid contents in the serum of the A group and B group were decreased compared with control group. 4) The total cholesterol, ester form cholesterol and free form cholesterol in the serum of the A group were decreased, but the total cholesterol and ester form cholesterol in that of the C group were increased compared with control group.
