  • We discuss the notions of positive expansivity, chain transitivity, uniform rigidity, chain mixing, weak specification, and pseudo orbital specification in terms of finite open covers for Hausdorff topological spaces and entourages for uniform spaces. We show that the two definitions for each notion are equivalent in compact Hausdorff spaces and further they are equivalent to their standard definitions in compact metric spaces. We show that a homeomorphism on a Hausdorff uniform space has uniform h-shadowing if and only if it has uniform shadowing and its inverse is uniformly equicontinuous. We also show that a Hausdorff positively expansive system with a Hausdorff shadowing property has Hausdorff h-shadowing.

  • Filamentous actin (F-actin) is a two stranded long helix that performs structural function in eukaryotic cells. F-actin had been assembled from Alexa-labeled G-actin and had been confined in microchannel. The fluctuation of single filaments was observed by fluorescence optical microscopy. We measured Tangent-tangent Correlation Function G(s) (where s is the distance along the contour of the chain), which tells us the confining wall effect of wormlike semi-flexible polymers as well as the flexural rigidity, such as persistence length.

• We examine the wall contact of a $3\;{\mu}m$ tethered DNA chain's free end under shear with a focus on developing schemes for double-tethering in the application of making scaffolds for molecular wires. At this scale our results are found to be highly dependent on small length scale rigidity. Chain-end-wall contact frequency, mean fractional extension deficit upon contact, and standard deviation in extension upon contact are examined for scaling with dimensionless flow strength, Wi. Predictions made using a one dimensional approximation to the Smoluchowski equation for a dumbbell and three dimensional dumbbell simulations produce extension deficit, standard deviation, and frequency scaling exponents of -1/3, -1/3, and 2/3, respectively whereas more fine-grained Kratky-Porod (KP) simulations produce scaling exponents of -0.48, -0.42, and 0.76. The contact frequency scaling of 2/3 is derived from the known results regarding cyclic dynamics Analytical scaling predictions are in agreement with those previously proposed for ${\lambda}-DNA$. [Ladoux and Doyle, 2000, Doyle et al., 2000]. Our results suggest that the differences between the dumbbell and the KP model are associated with the addition of chain discretization and the correct bending potential in the latter. These scaling results will aide future exploration in double tethering of DNA to a surface.

  • The relationships between morphological structures and residual stress behaviors of polyimide thin films depending on isomeric diamines were investigated. For this study, Poly(phenylene biphenyltetracarboximide) (BPDA-PDA) and poly(oxydiphenylene biphenyltetracarboximide) (BPDA-ODA) films were prepared from their isomeric diamines: 1,3-phenylene diamine (1,3-PDA) 1,4-phenylene diamine (1.4-PDA), 3,4'-oxydiphenylene diamine (3,4'-ODA), and 4,4'-oxydiphenylene diamine (4,4'-ODA), respectively. For those films, residual stresses were detected in-situ during thermal imidization of the isomeric polyimide as a function of processing temperature over the range of 25~$400^{\circ}C$ using. Thin Film Stress Analyzer (TFSA). In comparison, residual stress of BPDA-1.4PDA having better in-plain orientation and chain order was the lowest value of 7MPa whereas those of BPDA-1,3-PDA, BPDA-3,4'-ODA, and BPDA-4,4'-ODA were in the range of 40-50MPa. Conclusively, the effect of morphological nature (chain rigidity, chain order, orientation) and chain mobility relating to the g1ass transition behavior on the residual stress of isomeric polyimide thin films wart analyzed.

  • The Stewart platform manipulator is a closed-kinematis chain robot manipulator that is capable of providing high st겨ctural rigidity and positional accuracy. However, this is a complex structure, so controllability of the system is not so good. In this paper, it introduces a new robust motion control algorithm using partial state feedback for a class of nonlinear systems in the presence of modelling uncertainties and external disturbances. The major contribution of this work introduces the development and design of robust observer for the slate and the perturbation w.hich is integrated into a variable structure controller(VSC) structure. The combination of controller/observer gives rise to the robust routine called sliding mode control with sliding perturbation observer(SMCSPO). The optimal gains of SMCSPO are easily obtained by genetic algorithm. Simulation and experiment are presented in order to apply to the stewart platform manipulator. There results show highly' accuracy and performance.

  • The liquid crystalline copolymers were synthesized through direct polycondensation using 4-[4-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)butoxy]benzoic acid (HBBA) and p-hydroxy benzoic acid (HBA) as monomers. The structure and properties for synthesized copolymers were investigated by $^1H$-NMR, FT-IR, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) and polarizing optical microscope (POM). As result of investigations, inherent viscosities (${\eta}_{inh}$) of polymers were measured as 0.77~1.60 dL/g in phenol/p-chlorophenol/1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane (25/40/35=w/w/w). Except for P-80, the ranges of the transition and mesophase temperature of copolymers were increased with increasing the amount of HBA. These properties of polymers were presumably due to increasing of the irregularity and rigidity of polymer chains.

  • Physicochemical properties of a series of PC monolayers with different alkyl chains (C24, C20, C16, and C8), at the air/water interface were investigated. The surface pressure is influenced mainly by the hydrophobicity of the PCs, which is confirmed by the curve shape and the on-set value of π-A isotherms at the air/water interface by increasing the number of alkyl chain. The on-set values of surface pressure were 125 Ų/molecule for DOPC(C8), 87 Ų/molecule for DPPC(C16), 75 Ų/molecule for DAPC(C20), and 55 Ų/molecule for DLPC(C24), respectively. The orientations of alkyl chains at the air/water interface are closely connected with the rigidity of the monolayers, and it was confirmed by the tendency of monolayer thickness in ellipsometry data. The temperature dependence of a series of PCs shows that the surface pressure decreases by increasing temperature, because the longer the alkyl chain length, the larger the hydrophobic interaction in surface pressure. The temperature effects and the conformational changes of unsaturated and saturated PCs were confirmed by the computer simulation study of the cis-trans transition with POPC and DPPC(C16). The cistrans conformational energy difference of POPC is 62.06 kcal/mol and that of DPPC(C16) is 6.75 kcal/mol. Due to the high conformational energy barrier of POPC, phase transition of POPC is limited in comparison with DPPC(C16).

  • Effects of continuous oil phase on silver halide nanoparticles were investigated where nanoparticles were prepared using two different types of water-in-oil(W/O) microemulsions containing silver and halide, respectively. Phase behavior experiments for ternary systems containing AOT surfactant, hydrocarbon oil and aqueous solution of an inorganic salt showed that the region of one phase W/O microemulsion was found to be broadened with an increase in the alkyl chain length of a hydrocarbon mainly due to an increase in hydrophilic nature of a surfactant. With the information of phase behavior experiments, silver halide nanoparticles were prepared using different AOT-based microemulsion systems and photomicrographs obtained by transmission electron microscopy indicated that about 10 nm size particles of relatively spherical shape were obtained. It has been found that an increase in alkyl chain length of a hydrocarbon results in a decrease in particle size because of higher intermicellar exchange rate among microemulsion drops. The average particle size was also found to increase with the inorganic salt composition of initial aqueous solution.
