  • This study examines the effects of adopting Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in livestock farm management on farm sales revenue. Using the 2020 Census of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, a nationally representative data set constructed by Statistics Korea, this study focuses on a sample of 9,020 livestock farms in South Korea. We employ Propensity Score Matching (PSM) methods to address the potential selection bias between 2,076 farms that used ICT for livestock farm management and 6,944 farms that did not. The findings consistently show that the use of ICT significantly increases farm revenue, taking into account the selection bias. The utilization of ICT in livestock farms leads to a higher increase in sales revenue, particularly for farms with greater sales.

  • This paper proposes an automated coding system of Korean standard industry/occupation for census which reduces a lot of cost and labor for manual coding. The proposed system converts natural language responses on survey questionnaires into corresponding numeric codes using information retrieval techniques and document classification algorithm. The system was experimented with 46,762 industry records and occupation 36,286 records using 10-fold cross -validation evaluation method. As experimental results, the system show 87.08% and 66.08% production rates when classifying industry records into level 2 and level 5 codes respectively. The system shows slightly lower performances on occupation code classification. We expect that the system is enough to be used as a semi-automate coding system which can minimize manual coding task or as a verification tool for manual coding results though it has much room to be improved as an automated coding system.

  • Today, because human settlements are concentrated into urban area, urban planning and management technique considering the complexity, diversity, and advanced situations of urban living space is being requested. Especially, to effectively respond to large and diverse climate change driven disaster, it is necessary to develop urban planning technique including land use, infrastructure planning based on disaster vulnerability analysis. However, because current urban climate change disaster vulnerability analysis system(UC-VAS) is using census output area as spatial analysis unit, it is difficult to utilize the analysis results for specific urban planning. Instead, this study applies the grid manner to two study areas. The analysis results show that it can generate more detailed results and it can be used for detailed zoning decision by comparing with areal photos. Furthermore, by describing the limitation of the grid manner and providing professional way to secure additional scientific character and objectivity of the future urban climate change disaster vulnerability analysis system, it is expected that this study contributes to the effectiveness of system management.

  • That's an attempt to study about knowledge, attitudes and practice of the residents with regard to maternal child health, family, planning, and tuberculosis in rural area which was chosen to be a demonstration area for nursing students of College of Nursing, Yonsei University for their public health nursing practice. In addition, it is designed to collect information on population of the area such as age and sex distribution, mobility, and other characteristics also be sought by doing a census. The purpose of study is to obtain data which are needed for planning student learning experiences in the community. The information which was obtainable through this study is as follows; 1. In demographic aspect a. Population structure was a typical rural type in terms of population pyramid. b. Distribution of age and sex of residents showed more female in the older ages. c. Population has not moved much. Majority of them have been living in the area since their births. 2. In sociological aspect a. The level of education of female was comparatively lower than male. b. The residents of the area did not have any special religion. c. The economic status was found low or middle class. 3. In health practice In general health knowledge, attitudes and practice appeared to be poor. As a result of this study, it could be summararized that there are a great public health nursing needs in the community. According to these needs found and to it's nature, severity and massiveness, the nurse instructors with students were able to set up a priority system in services. Meanwhile student case load can be logically figured out in consideration of variety of experiences need for each student. The study helped student not only to find out resident characteristics and their health problems in terms of family and community problem but also to provide a good learning experience by participating in the interviewing. In sum this type of study is necessary for planning of student field experience when no data are available where students are going to have field experiences in public health nursing.

  • This study attempted to demonstrate the interaction effects between attitudinal frames of nine daily newspapers and community structure in the 1994s Michigan gubernatorial election. It was theoretically guided by framing research and the self-presentation theory of social-cognition perspective and empirically tested with archival data. For the purpose of this study, content analysis of nine statewide daily newspapers was employed in order to provide data on news framing. Data on voting rates for John Engler, winner of the 1994 Michigan Gubernatorial election, in each county of Michigan were used for vote choice while Michigan census data were used for constructing an Index of community structural differentiation. The results indicated that majority compliance frames were slightly more related with vote choice in homogeneous com-unities rather than were majority compliance frames in heterogeneous communities while social identification frames tended to have an influence on vote choice in heterogeneous communities more than did social identification frames in homogeneous communities.

  • In this paper, we study a sample design for survey on goodwill in retail properties to provide a protecting policy for small traders and tenants, to use basic data for a dispute case related to goodwill. Since goodwill in retail properties is occurred by individual rent company, we use the census on establishments from the Statistics Korea as population. First of all, we consider preferentially seven metropolitan cities in which there are more than half of population. Total sample size is decided as 8,000. We allocate the sample size for markets as stratum in each city using proportional formula and the sample size for industrial classifications in each market using root proportional formula. Also we compute survey weights and calculate estimators, standard errors and interval of estimators for each characteristic such as type of establishments and market in seven metropolitan cities.

  • This study presented a method to allocate RFID reader sites for the weekly no driving day program. In resent years, three metropolitan cities begin to operate the system to resolve the traffic jam, air pollution, and oil cost, which is expected to be operated across the country in a few years. In this regard, the accurate verification of the observance of the cars which are participated in the system is needed so that the more benefits are rewarded to observing participants but not violating ones. Thus, this study distinguished road sections where the system of the Daegu metropolitan city cannot determine the observance of the participated cars when the cars detour the RFID readers by employing a set of data from the traffic census, digital maps, and terrestrial photographs of the superstructures on the roads. Then, the appropriate sites for additional RFID readers were determined based on those sections in the road network and the types of the road superstructures.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a Water Quality Management System(WQMS), which calculates pollutant discharge and forecasts water quality with a water pollution model. Operational water quality management requires not only controlling pollutants but acquiring and managing exact information. A GIS software, ArcView 3.1 was used to enter or edit geographic data and attribute data, and Avenue Script was used to customize the user interface. PCI, a remote sensing software, was used to derive land cover classification from 20 m resolution SPOT data by image processing. WQMS has two subsystems, database subsystem and modelling subsystem. The database subsystem consisted of watershed data from digital maps, remote sensing data, government reports, census data and so on. The modelling subsystem consisted of NSPLM(NonStorm Pollutant Load Model) and SPLM(Storm Pollutant Load Model). It calculates the amount of pollutant and predicts water quality. These two subsystems were connected through a graphic display module. This system has been calibrated for and applied to Mokhyun Stream watershed.

  • Variables representing neighborhood quality should be included in hedonic price models to control lfor the influences of negative or positive externalities from the quality of neighborhood on urban housing prices. This study proposes a GIS-based method to effectively measure the neighborhood quality variable when data on the neighborhood quality are aggregated by census sub area. This study also tests the superiority of the proposed neighborhood quality variable created by intensive use of GIS operations to a neighborhood variable not based on GIS operations in explaining the housing price variations by using Seoul's apartment sales data. The results from this study show that the neighborhood quality variable based on GIS-based operations shows better performance in explaining the urban housing price variations in Seoul's housing market. The implication from the results is that the potentials of GIS-based spatial operations in creating neighborhood quality variables should be well acknowledged by the researchers in the area of urban housing market study and GIS-based spatial operations should be more actively applied to generate better neighborhood quality variables for hedonic price models.
