  • In this paper we propose the resource allocation scheme for the overlaid macro-femtocell networks, which considers the type of handovers such as the inter-macrocell, macrocell-to-femtocell, femtocell-to-macrocell, or inter-femtocell in order to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) and expand the accommodation capacity. Our proposed scheme takes into account the movement of mobile terminals, the QoS degradation, or the load control which trigger handovers in the overlaid networks, before it allocates resources dynamically. Moreover it considers QoS requirements of realtime or non-realtime mobile multimedia services such as video communication, Video on Demand (VoD) and dataa services. Simulation results show that our scheme provides better performances than the conventional one with respect to the outage probability, data transmission throughput and handover failure rate.

  • In this paper, a numerical code for the interior ballistics has been investigated. The Eulerian-Lagrangian approach and the SMART scheme have been used in the numerical code for the grain combustion. The translational kinetic energy of the projectile and work done against barrel friction have been considered only. The ghost cell extrapolation method has been used for the chamber change with the projectile movement. The calculation results of the numerical code have been compared and verified through those of IBHVG2 code.

  • We report the observed peculiar double four lobe textures in CNT dispersed nematic liquid crystal under vertical field. The electro optic studies in a wide range of applied field showed that the double four lobe texture was observed only in the field range of 120 to 160v. This observed peculiar phenomena is explained in terms field induced movement of CNTs and the subsequent reorientation of Liquid crystal molecules.

  • A reflective electronic display that uses negatively and positively charged particles has excellent bistability, a welldefined threshold voltage, and an extremely fast response time in comparison with other reflective displays. This type of display shows images through the movement of charged particles whose motion depends on the value of q/m (charge per mass for a particle). However, the ratio q/m can easily be changed by the forces acting on the charged particles in a cell of the panel and by friction that occurs after mixing oppositely charged particles and in the particle-insertion process. In this study, we propose a method to determine the appropriate range of q/m by using the reflectivity and response time of charged particles to modify q/m. In this manner, the electrical and optical properties of reflective displays are improved.

  • Early infection process of Phytophthora capsici in pumpkin stems was similar in the compatible and incompatible interactions 24 h after inoculation. Intercellularly growing hyphae penetrated host parenchyma cells by growing hyphae penetrated host parenchyma cells by forming haustoria. An extrahaustorial matrix was found around the haustoria in both compatible and incompatible interactions. No wall appositions were observed at the infection sites in the parenchyma cells. In the compatible interaction, infecting hyphae grew well in the intercellular spaces between xylem vessels in stem tissues. Degraded host cell wall, plasmolysis of plasma membrane, and degenerated chloroplasts were pathological features of pumpkin stem tissues in both compatible and incompatible interactions. A characteristic host response in the resistant pumkin cultivar Danmatmaetdol was rapid cytoplasmic movement of host cells toward the oomycete haustoria.

  • Recent studies report that a history of antidepressant use is strongly correlated with the occurrence of Parkinson' disease (PD). However, it remains unclear whether antidepressant use can be a causative factor for PD. In the present study, we examined whether tricyclic antidepressants amitriptyline and desipramine can induce dopaminergic cell damage, both in vitro and in vivo. We found that amitriptyline and desipramine induced mitochondria-mediated neurotoxicity and oxidative stress in SH-SY5Y cells. When injected into mice on a subchronic schedule, amitriptyline induced movement deficits in the pole test, which is known to detect nigrostriatal dysfunction. In addition, the number of tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta was reduced in amitriptyline-injected mice. Our results suggest that amitriptyline and desipramine may induce PD-associated neurotoxicity.

  • As the NAND flash memory goes to 3D vertical Silicon-Oxide-Nitride-Oxide-Silicon (SONOS) structure, the lateral charge migration can be critical in the reliability performance. Even more, with miniaturization of flash memory cell device, just a little movement of trapped charge can cause reliability problems. In this paper, we propose a method of predicting the trapped charge profile in the retention mode. Charge diffusivity in the charge trapping layer (Si3N4) was extracted experimentally, and the effect on the trapped charge profile was demonstrated by the simulation and experiment.

  • The pathological hallmark of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a synovial pannus that comprises proliferating and invasive fibroblast-like synoviocytes, infiltrating inflammatory cells, and an associated neoangiogenic response. Animal models have been established to study these pathological features of human RA. Spontaneous and induced animal models of RA primarily reflect inflammatory aspects of the disease. Among various induced animal models, collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) and collagen antibody-induced arthritis (CAIA) models are widely used to study the pathogenesis of RA. Improved transplantation techniques for severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) mouse models of RA can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of potential therapeutics in human tissues and cells. This review provides basic information on various animal models of RA, including CIA and CAIA. In addition, we describe a SCID mouse coimplantation model that can measure the long-distance migration of human RA synoviocytes and cartilage destruction induced by these cells.

  • To study the effect of prostglandin $E_2$ and evening primrose oil on orthodontic tooth movement in rats, one hundred and sixty rats were divided into four groups of 40 rats each. One group, injected with saline on the palate subperiosteally, served as a control group. A second and third group were injected subperiosteally on the palate with $PGE_2$ $10{\mu}g$ and evening primrose oil 10mg respectively. The fourth group was given indomethacin $20{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ orally by water bottle. The maxillary first molar was moved mesially from the incisors using a 50gm force rubber band. In each group at the 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7th day, 4 rats were examined by light microscope, and 4 by electron microscope. The obtained results were as follows: 1. Osteoclastic activity was maximum at the 3rd day in the $PGE_2$ group on the interradicular alveolar bone of the first molar, followed by the evening primrose oil group, control group, and indomethacin group. 2. Root resorption and vacuolar changes were maximum in the $PGE_2$ group. 3. At the 3rd day of the $PGE_2$ group, the osteoclasts showed well developed ruffled borders and clear zones. At the same day, the evening primrose oil group also showed well developed ruffled borders and clear zones, but less than the $PGE_2$ group. 4. At the 3rd and 5th day of the $PGE_2$ group, fibroblasts showed phagocytized fragmented collagen fibers in the cytoplasm. At the 7th day of the $PGE_2$ group, fibroblasts showed collagen fibers forming at the cell membrane surface.

  • From 2006 through 2007, the highest need for the most urgent attention in Gangwon-do Wild Animal Rescue Center was wildlifevehicle collisions (WVC). The Korean Ministry of Environment reported 6543 WVC's in 2005 and 5565 cases of WVC's in 2006. In this study, data from the Gangwon-do Wild Animal Rescue Center was utilized to analyze WVC incidents and the movement of wildlife near roadways in Korea. From 2006 through the first half of 2008, the portable GPS device recorded accident location of the injured wildlife. Attempts were made to track and monitor the movements of four raccoon dogs and five Korean water deers near the roads. One raccoon dog and one Korean water deer were successfully tracked and monitored. Their locations were transmitted to cell phones. The amount of WVC's was highest amongst the roads near the forests of Gangwon-do. The devices installed on the nearby roads did not protect the wildlife from WVC's. Results using the CDMA-type GPS collar showed that wildlife often crossed the road even with devices installed to prevent this from crossing roads. This research analyzed the behaviors of different wildlife animals and WVC's. New preventative measures need to be established to avoid roadkill. It is suggested that new streets be built or for an appropriate speed limit be implemented.
