  • The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of celebrity and celebrity fashion on contemporary fashion. As study methods, the literature study using books and theses concerning fashion, culture, and history were used for theoretical background and visual data from magazine, news paper, and internet were used for actual study. The results of this study are as follows. First, the celebrity is the figure who shows their attractive appearance and status using major cultural contents on the basis of the various media and visual culture, and has secured a solid foothold as the source of fashion and an indispensable factor of fashion industry. Second, the celebrity fashion, a creature of mass media, set a powerful fashion trend along with the media, and increasingly plays mayor roles in the society and culture. Third, the combination of celebrity and fashion has come into the brightest spotlight as the serious business of today, and bring about a tremendous industrial ripple effect extensively.

Comparison of Influencing Factors on Purchase of Celebrity Fashion Hot Items in Teens and Twenties (10대와 20대의 셀러브리티 패션 핫 아이템 구매영향요인 비교)

  • This study identifies influential factors in regards to the purchase of celebrity fashion hot items and compares these factors in the age groups of teens and twenties. This study surveyed male and female consumers aged 10-20 years old for empirical analysis in July 2018. The study surveyed 322 consumers selected through online convenience sampling. Data were analyzed using SPSS for Windows 19.0, descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, ${\chi}^2$ analysis, regression analysis, ANOVA analysis, Duncan test, and t-test. The results were as follows. First, 87.6% of consumer have purchased celebrity fashion hot items more than once. In particular, female consumers in their 20s with a high fashion product expenditure tend to purchase more celebrity fashion hot items. Clothes and shoes were purchased more by 10-year-old males, shoes for males in their 20s, accessories for 10-year-old females female, and bags and accessories for female in their 20s. Second, there were no significant differences for those aged 10-20 years old in purchase satisfaction for celebrity fashion hot items according to age, gender, income, and fashion product expenditure. Consumers' awareness on corporate marketing intention to celebrity fashion hot items was higher among women in their 20s than men in their teens and twenties; in addition, the expenditure on fashion products also increased. Third, factors affecting the purchase of celebrity fashion hot items among teens and twenties were different according to age and gender. A higher need for identification for teenage male resulted in: lower media dependency, higher product involvement, fashion conformity, fashion innovativeness for 20s males, higher product involvement for 10s and 20s females, increased intention to purchase tended. This study provides consumer information and fashion item information that can be utilized in advertisement and promotion strategies for fashion companies that seek to perform celebrity marketing strategies that target consumers aged 10-20 years old.

Influence of Korean Celebrity Endorsement on Chinese Consumers' Purchase Intention towards Fashion Goods

  • Korean celebrity endorsement is a common practice adopted by companies in China. This study assessed the impact of celebrity endorsement (trustworthiness, attractiveness, congruency, and expertise) on Chinese consumers' intention to purchase clothes endorsed by Korean celebrities. This study used reliability and validity tests and structural equation model analysis to explore the relationship between variables using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 22.0. This study conducted an online survey (www.sojump.com) from August 10, 2020 to August 20, 2020 and collected 370 respondents. Results show that all constructs of celebrity endorsement positively affected purchase intention and that celebrity expertise had the strongest impact. With respect to the influence of demographic variables on the constructs, gender, age, and education had a significant effect on trustworthiness; gender and age had a significant effect on attractiveness; and income had an effect on purchase intention. Marketing executives should consider using Korean celebrities for different purposes in brand advertising. Particularly, celebrity expertise, such as experience, knowledge, and skills, should receive attention while publicizing to Chinese consumers. This study contributes to the academic and practical implications of Korean celebrity endorsement.

  • This paper examines the contemporary relationship between fashion brands and celebrities. Noting the historic role of celebrities in fashion and their current prevalence in the industry, the paper moves beyond discussion of the motives and effectiveness of celebrity endorsement, and instead explores its nature and practice in the fashion sector. The paper proposes a new definition of celebrity endorsement in fashion, offers a classification of celebrities involved in fashion brand endorsement, and presents a typology examining the contemporary means by which a fashion brand may collaborate with celebrities. The typology is defined in context of the nature, length and cost to the brand of the relationship between it and the celebrity. The methodology uses secondary sources and qualitative primary research in an exploratory agenda in order to propose conclusions and suggest ideas for further research.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among technology innovation (perceived ease of use, perceived ease, joyfulness), individual variables (innovation, self-efficacy), fashion variables (fashion involvement, interest in celebrity style), shopping attitudes toward fashion T-Commerce, and purchasing intention. Two hundred seven female participants in age group of 20s participated in this study. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, simple and multiple regression, and Cronbach's Alpha were used to test the research questions. As the result, first, all three variables (perceived ease of use, perceived ease, joyfulness) from technology innovation did affect on attitudes toward fashion T-Commerce. Second, individual innovation did affect positively on attitudes toward fashion T-Commerce. Third, interest in celebrity style affected positively on attitudes toward fashion T-Commerce. Finally, attitudes toward fashion T-Commerce affected positively on purchasing intention of fashion T-Commerce. Based on these results, T-Commerce fashion merchandising marketing strategies of fashion goods would be provided to fashion T-Commerce retailers or marketers.

The Effects of Internet Fashion Shopping Celebrity Advertising Model on Consumers' WOM (인터넷 패션 쇼핑 몰의 연예인 광고 모델이 소비자의 구전 행동(WOM)에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate if star marketing of on-line shopping malls affects consumers' WOM effect, and to compare the differences of consumption behavior between female teenagers and college students. Two hundred five female teenagers and college students who had purchased fashion goods through internet shopping mall participated in this study. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test, and multiple regression were used. As the results, first, recognition of celebrity advertising models was classified into three factors such as 'trust of product', 'attractiveness of product' and 'leading interest of product' factors. Second, the greater exposure to celebrity models, the greater the good feelings about them, showing respondents' positive consumption behavior. Third, results of multiple regression revealed that behavior of pursuing celebrities' style accounted for 37% of the explained variance WOM behavior. Finally, t-test revealed that female college students were affected more by celebrity style and bought fashion items than female teenagers. However, female teenagers conducted more WOM behavior than college students. Based on these results, on-line fashion marketers would use these data for more their efficient fashion marketing strategies.

Male Consumer's Perceptions of Fashion Brands' Advertising Investment and Brand Equity (패션 브랜드의 광고 투자에 대한 남성 소비자의 인식과 브랜드 자산과의 관계)

  • This study examined the relationship between Korean male consumers' perceptions of marketing promotion investment such as advertising expenditure and celebrity endorsement are the brand equity elements. It also compared if there were differences on this research model and two groups that selected Korean or foreign country-of-brand-origin in fashion product purchasing. Online survey responses from 414 Korean men in their 20s-30s were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling analysis (SEM). Perceptions of advertising expenditures were found to be positively related to brand association in only the group that selected Korean country-of-brand-origin. The results showed a non-significant effect of perceptions for advertising expenditures on perceived product quality in both groups that selected Korean or foreign country-of-brand-origin. The results indicated that celebrity endorsement had a significant effect on brand association for the two male consumer groups. The results also demonstrated that the relationship of celebrity endorsement and perceived quality was significant in only a group that selected Korean country-of-brand-origin. The results also revealed that the effect of brand association and perceived product quality on brand preference was significant in both male consumer groups. This study has useful managerial implications for enhancing the effectiveness of investment in advertising activities.

A New Paradigm of Fashion Magazine - focusing on the U.S.A. VOGUE - (패션 매거진 편집구성의 패러다임 변화 -미국 VOGUE를 중심으로-)

  • The development of mass media in the $20^{th}$ century has resulted in the rapid growth of the fashion industry. Fashion magazines like are performing the function of spreading new styles in addition to simple provision of fashion trend information. Therefore, the present study tracked the trend of changes in the cover models of USA during the last 10 years $(1997{\sim}2006)$, and examined qualitative and quantitative changes in the contents of USA for the last 20 years. According to the results, $50{\sim}75%$ of cover models were super models during the period from 1997 to 2006, but the percentages of fashion models and celebrities became similar to each other in 2001, and from 2002 to 2006 celebrities occupied around $75{\sim}92%$ of cover models. When the contents of USA were analyzed by category, columns that showed strength in 1986 but decreased gradually until 2006 were style suggestions(p<.001), fashion shooting on the theme of TPO and items(p<.05). Fashion columns that showed weakness in 1986 but increased through the 1990s and until 2006 were celebrity style(p<.05), item introductions(p<.001), shopping information(p<.001), designer interviews(p<.05) and fashion shooting on the theme of mood and celebrity(p<.05). These results suggested that the function of USA as a fashion magazine was mainly the provision of information on how to wear the new styles in 1986, but nowadays the contents have changed to information on what to buy. In addition, the results show that contents using highly popular celebrity increased rapidly in the 2000s.

The Influence Factors of Job Commitment and Satisfaction of Celebrity Stylists - Focusing on Their Lifestyle and Person-Environment Fit - (연예인 스타일리스트의 직무몰입과 만족의 영향요인 연구 - 라이프스타일과 개인-환경 적합성을 중심으로 -)

  • This study identifies the impact of celebrity stylists' individual psychographic characteristics, including their lifestyle, and social characteristics, including person-environment fit on their job commitment and satisfaction. A survey was conducted with currently working celebrity stylists, and a total of 203 responses were analyzed using descriptive analysis, factor analysis, reliability test, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows: 1) The results of the factor analysis and reliability test on celebrity stylists' lifestyle and person-environment fit clearly revealed factorial structures, respectively. 2) Regarding the results of the influences of celebrity stylists' lifestyle on their job commitment and satisfaction, respondents who had higher new information-oriented, success-oriented, and conservation-oriented, but lower outdoor activity-oriented lifestyle tended to show higher job commitment and role satisfaction of job satisfaction. 3) Respondents who had higher person-job fit, person-organization fit, person-celebrity fit, and person-coworker fit tended to demonstrate a higher level of job commitment and role satisfaction of job satisfaction. Both celebrity stylists' lifestyle and person-environment, which revealed to have a significant relationship to their job commitment and satisfaction, could be used as an index to evaluate potential employees' job attitudes for recruiting celebrity stylist.

The Effects of the Attributes of Korean Celebrity Advertising Models on Chinese Consumer's Intention to Purchase Korean Fashion Brands (한국 연예인 광고모델 속성이 중국 소비자 한국 패션브랜드 구매도에 미치는 영향)

  • As the Korean cultural contents, such as drama, films, music, gained popularity in China, Korean fashion brands used Korean celebrities as their models to as a sales promotion strategy for Chinese consumers. With the point of view that the advertising model as a human capital as well, the purpose of this study is to investigate the factors of attributes of Korean celebrity advertising model, and to analyze effects on fashion brand recognition, preference, trust and purchase intention. With convenience sampling, the research surveyed Shanghai consumers in their 20's to early 30's who had purchased Korean fashion items. The 291 responses were analyzed by frequency analysis, reliability test, factor analysis, multiple regression analysis, The results are as follows. Frist, Korean celebrity advertising model attribute factors were divided into similarity, familiarity, popularity, attractiveness and trust. Second, the brand recognition was affected by similarity, familiarity and popularity factors, and the brand preference was affected by similarity, familiarity, popularity and attractiveness factors. Third, the trust of Korean fashion brands was affected by similarity, familiarity, attractiveness, trust, brand recognition and brand preference. Lastly, the intention to purchase Korean Fashion brand was affected by similarity, familiarity, attractiveness, brand recognition, brand preference and brand trust.
