A series of hydraulic and cavitation tests are performed in water environment in order to verify the hydraulic and cavitation performance of three types of LOX pumps. All the performances of the pumps are found to be satisfied with each design requirement. In the hydraulic tests, the head and efficiency are increased as the gap between floating ring seals and the impeller shoulder is decreased. In the cavitation tests, some pumps show decrease in the cavitation performance as the flowrate of the pump is decreased.
In this study, we investigated how the performance of a Venturi changes when a hemispherical bump is applied to the divergent part of the Venturi tube and what causes the performance difference. The Venturi-tunnel experiment was conducted in the Reynolds number range of 0.2 × 105 - 1.2 × 105 and cavitation number range of 0.9 - 10. The bump was found to reduce the pressure loss coefficient and increase the discharge coefficient by shortening the cavitation length. The decrease in the cavitation length by the bump was explained by the strengthening of the re-entrant jet. The wake generated from the hemispherical bump seems to increase the adverse pressure gradient on the Venturi surface, thereby strengthening the re-entrant jet.
In the present study, flow simulations of a solution pump fer an absorption chiller are performed. The results are compared to the experimental data. Since the cavitation is more likely to occur in a solution pump due to Its operation under vacuum condition, and the cavitation was not considered in the present computations, the computed and experimental results show large discrepancies. For more accurate performance prediction of a solution pump, a cavitation model is required in the flow simulation. Flows through an inducer are also studied to see the effect of design parameters on performance characteristics. It is shown from the results that, if not properly designed, recirculation legion may exist near the hub region of the Inducer, and the suction surface may experience higher pressure than the pressure surface of the inducer, which may deteriorate the performance.

The variable demand on the energy market, as well as the limited energy storage capabilities, requires a great flexibility in operating hydraulic turbines. But, present in Korea, the absence of testing laboratories and technical criteria for the performance test of small hydropower degrades the efficiency of the domestic hydropower machines, A performance guarantees for hydro turbines shall be contain, as a minimum, guarantees covering power, discharge and specific hydraulic energy, efficiency, maximum momentary overspeed and maximum momentary pressure and/or maximum steady-state runaway speed, as well as guarantees related to cavitation. Performance test are conducted by the test standard. Test codes based on extensive research data are written under the leadership of an IEC. Performance evaluation is carry out several test(performance test, cavitation test and runaway test). The paper presents the international turbine test laboratory and performance test standard.

Performance tests of the fuel pump for a turbopump unit have been successfully carried out in water environment. The tests are performed to evaluate the hydraulic and cavitation performances. The head and volute pressure distribution of the fuel pump followed the conventional similarity rule - unlike this, the secondary passage pressure distribution showed a small deviation from the conventional similarity rule. Also, critical cavitation number decreased as the rotational speed of the pump increased.

To investigate the influence of blade profiles on cavitation behavior in impeller of centrifugal pump, a centrifugal pump with five different blade profiles impellers are studied numerically. The impellers with five different blade profiles (single arc, double arcs, triple arcs, logarithmic spiral and linear-variable angle spiral) were designed by the in-house hydraulic design code using geometric parameters of IS 150-125-125 centrifugal pump. The experiments of the centrifugal pump have been conducted to verify numerical simulation model. The numerical results show that the blade profile lines has a weak effect on cavitation inception near blade inlet edge position, however it has the key effect on the development of sheet cavitation in impeller, and also influences the distribution of sheet cavitation in impeller channels. A slight changing of blade setting angle will induce significant difference of cavitation in impeller. The sharp changing of impeller blade setting angle causes obvious cavitation region separation near the impeller inlet close to blade suction surface and much more flow loss. The centrifugal pump with blade profile of setting angle gently changing (logarithmic spiral) has the super cavitation performance, which means smaller critical cavitation number and lower vapor cavity volume fraction at the same conditions.

Centrifugal pumps are a crucial part of nuclear power plants, and their dependable and safe operation is crucial to the security of the entire facility. Cavitation will cause the centrifugal pump to violently vibration with the large number of vacuoles generated, which not only affect the hydraulic performance of the centrifugal pump but also cause structural damage to the impeller, seriously affecting the operational safety of nuclear power plants. A closed cavitation test bench of a centrifugal pump is constructed, and a method for precisely identifying the cavitation state is proposed based on Complementary Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (CEEMD) and Deep Residual Shrinkage Network (DRSN). First, we compared the cavitation sensitivity of pressure fluctuation, vibration, and liquid-borne noise and decomposed the liquid-borne noise by CEEMD to capture cavitation characteristics. The decomposition results are sent into a 12-layer deep residual shrinkage network (DRSN) for cavitation identification training. The results demonstrate that the liquid-borne noise signal is the most cavitation-sensitive signal, and the accuracy of CEEMD-DRSN to identify cavitation at different stages of centrifugal pumps arrives at 94.61%
Development of rudder gap flow blocking device for lift augmentation and cavitation suppression is presented. In order to verify the performance of this device, cavitation visualization and surface pressure measurements were carried out in a cavitation tunnel. Numerical simulations were conducted using a computational fluid dynamics code for more rigorous verification. The new rudder system is equipped with cam devices, which effectively close the gap between the horn/pintle and movable wing parts. The experimental and computational results show that the proposed rudder system is superior to the conventional rudder systems in terms of the lift augmentation and cavitation suppression.
Propellent should be pressurized inside the turbopump to gain high thrust in a projectile. Turbopump is composed of an inducer, which prevents impeller performance deterioration, and an impeller. Several types of cavitation occur inside the inducer, numerous experiments and CFD simulations are conducted. Though, an inducer takes only small portion of total head of the pump and the following impeller determines whole turbopump performance. In addition, low inlet pressure makes the flow to be cavitated not only at the inducer, but also at the impeller in real cases. Therefore, flow through an inducer and an impeller should considered simultaneously. In this study, LOX pump composed of an inducer and an impeller is analyzed by using commercial CFD code ANSYS CFX 13.0. Non-cavitating flow with high inlet pressure and cavitating flow with low inlet pressure are both simulated and head, suction performances are shown. Evolution of the flow and the cavitation by reducing cavitation number and effect of cavitation on pump performance are studied.

Numerical simulation based on the Reynolds Averaged Naviere-Stokes (RANS) Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method had been carried out with the commercial code ANSYS CFX. The structured grid and SST $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model had been adopted. The impact of non-condensable gas (NCG) on cavitation performance had been introduced into the Schnerr and Sauer cavitation model. The numerical investigation of cavitating flow of marine propeller E779A was carried out with different advance ratios and cavitation numbers to verify the numerical simulation method. Tip clearance effects on the performance of pumpjet propulsor had been investigated. Results showed that the structure and characteristics of the tip leakage vortex and the efficiency of the propulsor dropped more sharply with the increase of the tip clearance size. Furthermore, the numerical simulation of tip clearance cavitation of pumpjet propulsor had been presented with different rotational speed and tip clearance size. The mechanism of tip clearance cavitation causing a further loss of the efficiency had been studied. The influence of rotational speed and tip clearance size on tip clearance cavitation had been investigated.
