진로결정상태 유형에 따른 진로미결정 이유, 진로성숙도와 대학적응 (Reasons for Career Indecisiveness, Career Maturity and College Adaptation Using a Typology of Career Decision Status)

  • The main purpose of this study was to identify a typology of career decision status by using the quadrants formed by the decidedness and comfort scale and to examine the differences in career maturity and college adaptation using that typology. We gathered data from a total of 789(237 male, 552 female) students from a middle-sized university in Jollanam-do completed a Career Decision Profile(CDP), a Career Maturity Inventory(CMI) and the Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire(SACQ). We found that 29.5% of students were categorized as decided-comfortable, 36.4% were decided-uncomfortable, 6.9% were undecided-comfortable, and 27.3% were undecided-uncomfortable. ANOVA indicated that there were significant differences in the reasons dimension of COP, career maturity and college adaptation as a function of career decision status categories. In general, decided-comfortable students showed the highest scores while undecided-uncomfortable students showed the lowest scores in all scales. Only in the Career Choice Importance scale did undecided-comfortable students showed the lowest scores.

직업선택 동기에 따른 창업교육 수강의지에 대한 연구 : 이공계열 대학생을 중심으로 (The Study on the Career Reasons Affecting on the Desire of Entrepreneurship Education : Focus on Science and Engineering College Student)

  • 우리나라는 현재 창조경제를 화두로 창업의 역할과 중요성에 대한 인식이 빠르게 자리잡아가고 있다. 특히 청년층의 취업에 대한 어려움이 커지고 있는 지금 창업에 대한 사회적 인식 변화와 다양한 창업관련 교육기회의 증가로 인해 많은 청년들이 진로선택의 한 부분으로써 창업을 선택하고 있다. 이렇게 증가하고 있는 창업이 한 경제에 긍정적인 영향을 미치기 위해서는 정확한 지식과 정보를 바탕으로 창업을 시작하는 것이 필요하며 효과적인 결과를 기대하기 위해 창업자들에 대한 교육이 필요하다. 특히, 진로 선택을 앞두고 있는 대학생들에게 창업교육을 좀 더 효과적으로 제공하기 위해서는 청년들이 가지고 있는 직업선택의 동기에 대한 분석을 바탕으로 하는 접근이 필요하다. 학생들이 가지고 있는 직업선택의 동기와 스스로의 목표에 따라 창업 강좌 및 교육에 대한 욕구수준이 다르기 때문이다. 본 연구는 이렇게 학생들이 가지고 있는 직업선택의 동기와 지속적인 창업교육의 중요성을 바탕으로 학생들이 가지고 있는 창업교육의 지속적인 수강의지에 대한 관계를 실증적으로 분석하기 위해 창업교육을 받고 있는 대학의 이공계학생 1,651명의 설문을 분석하여 시사점을 도출하였다. 분석결과 학생들이 가지고 있는 직업선택의 동기 중 자아실현, 혁신성, 롤모델 추구 및 독립성과 같은 내재적인 요인들은 창업교육에 대한 만족과 유의한 관계에 있음을 확인할 수 있었으며, 이러한 창업교육의 만족도는 향후 창업강좌 및 교육에 대한 지속적인 수강의지와 유의한 관계에 있음을 알 수 있었다. 즉, 진로 선택의 한 부분으로 창업을 선택하는 학생들이 많아지고 있는 현재 학생들의 성공적인 창업을 위해서는 지속적인 창업교육으로의 유입이 필요한데 이는 학생들이 가지고 있는 직업의 가치에 대한 내재적인 요인들을 강화한다면 가능할 것이다. 본 연구를 통한 결과에서 나온 시사점을 바탕으로 더욱 많은 학생들이 지속적으로 창업교육에 참여시키기 위한 방법에 적용을 하고 이를 통해 향후 좀 더 성공적인 창업가들의 탄생을 기대할 수 있을 것이다.

STEM 전공 대학생의 진로동기, 진로탐색행동에 대한 인식 차이와 영향요인 (Differences in Career Motivation and Career Exploration Behavior Among STEM Students and Their Affecting Factors)

  • In recent times, STEM graduates are confronting a decline in employment rates influenced by economic, social, cultural, and policy-related factors. Career decisions are closely linked to education, college experiences, and university settings. To comprehend the reasons behind the decline in STEM employment, it is essential to explore the relationships among these factors. This study aims to comprehensively examine differences in career motivation and career exploration behavior among 2,393 STEM undergraduates in Korea. Additionally, factors affecting career motivation and career exploration behavior were investigated. The findings indicate significant differences in perceived career motivation and career exploration behavior based on individual backgrounds and university characteristics. And analyzing the data, 37.8% of career motivation is explained by contextual supports, career barriers, individual backgrounds (grade, GPA), university characteristics (major fields, location), field to enter after graduation, and timing of job preparation. For career exploration behavior, 30.1% is explained by contextual supports, career barriers, individual backgrounds (gender, grade, GPA), university characteristics (major field, location), field to enter after graduation, and timing of job preparation. Practical implications underscore the need for tailored educational and policy support, considering individual backgrounds and university characteristics, to effectively address challenges faced by STEM graduates in the evolving employment landscape.

직업 경력단절 기혼 여성에 대한 질적 연구: 30대 여성의 경력단절 이후의 삶을 중심으로 (A Qualitative Study on the Career-interrupted Lives of Career-Interrupted Women in their thirties)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the career-interrupted lives of highly educated career-interrupted women. The participants were 11 women in their thirties who had graduated from university graduated and had a child. We collected the qualitative data using a focused group interview. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, in personal histories of the career-interrupted women, there were marriages and births, difficulties with child care, priority placed on the family, pressure to retire, and an absence of a layoff system related to births and child care. Second, with regard to their interrupted lives, while there was comfort and an absence of work-stress, there was child care stress, financial stress, anxiety due to career uncertainty, a loss of the social self, depression, emptiness, low self-esteem, dependence on husbands, regret, conflict in career choices, and envy of childcare support. Third, their reasons for seeking reemployment included the financial benefits, increased independence, self-realization in their job, hope for a stable job, self-management, and hope for a social network.

Why Can't We Have Both? A Discussion on Work-Life Balance and Women Career Advancement in Malaysia

  • While the number of women labor force in Malaysia is increasing, only a few of them make it to the top. For many reasons, some women turn down top position offer and some of them refuse to stay working. Commitment to the family, work-life conflict and lack of support from the family and the colleagues are among issues that caused women to have less interest to pursue career advancement. This article examines the role of work-life balance and its relationship to women career advancement, and why both are important in Malaysia. The arguments are arranged based on a review of the previous literature to conceptualize the relationship between work-life balance and career advancement. It is found that both work-life balance and women career advancement are important to retain women in the working world as well as to motivate them to pursue promotion to a higher position. Even though some researchers agreed that the relationship between work-life balance and career advancement is mostly negative, others found positive relationship between both constructs. At the end of the paper, some suggestions on how to improve work-life balance and career advancement are presented as well as suggestion for future research.

Employees' Intention to Leave Job: The Case of Micro Finance Institution

  • The main purpose of this study is to examine the factors that influence the employee's intention to leave the current job. A descriptive survey design was conducted and primary data were collected by using questionnaire. The study was based on random sampling; a sample of 200 was drawn from the employees who work in different micro finance institutions in Nepal. For the data analysis percentage analysis and chi square-test were used. The study revealed that salary, working condition, career growth, supervisor behavior and outstation influence the job quitting process. The study also defined the association between the reasons for leaving job such as salary, working condition, career growth supervisor behaviour & outstation and satisfaction, time spent in the organisation, training & development facility, frequency of changing job & encourage from immediate boss. This study establishes the importance of intentions of employees to quit job and provides further evidence in revealing the intentions to quit among the employees.

의과대학 교수의 경력개발: 필요성과 실행전략 (Faculty Development for Medical Faculty: Importance and Strategies)

  • Unlike in the past, standards for the quantity and quality of work expected from medical school faculty are continuously rising, causing changes and stress in various areas. This highlights the need for career development among medical school faculty for professional, personal, organizational, and societal reasons. The role of medical school faculty has become more diverse, leading to an increase in the types and levels of competencies required. Medical schools must support their faculty members with diverse identities in fully utilizing their capabilities to achieve the institution's mission. Furthermore, societal changes suggest that career development for medical school faculty will become even more crucial in the future. To achieve this, both individuals and organizations must make efforts and play appropriate roles. For this purpose, medical schools use a combination of promotion and tenure evaluations and faculty development programs, while individual faculty members follow a career path within the medical school environment. Medical school faculty must be able to meet the evolving demands at each stage of their careers. It is important for professors, who engage in career development, to have a clear sense of their identity and values, and to prioritize their career goals. Medical schools should also ensure that the implicit messages they convey align with the organization's explicit values. Finally, proactively preparing for future changes in society and generations is essential from a long-term perspective.

사서인력의 경력이동 및 경력개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on Career Movement and Career Development of Librarians Workforce)

  • 도서관계의 상황을 보면 대학도서관, 공공도서관, 전문도서관, 학교도서관 등 매우 다양한 유형의 도서관이 있고, 국가적인 차원 및 상업적인 차원의 정보유통기관이 있으며, 또 이를 지원하는 기관들 즉, 도서관자동화업체, 도서관관련 비품업체, 도서관관련 아웃소싱업체, 각종 데이터베이스 구축업체가 있다. 이러한 상황을 볼 때 문헌정보학을 전공한 사람들의 경력경로는 매우 다양해 질 수 있으며, 이로 인하여 사서인력의 유동성 및 경력이동률 은 매우 높을 것이라는 것을 예측할 수 있다. 그러나 현재까지 도서관계의 특성 및 직업적 특성을 감안하여 사서인력의 유동성 실태나 이직률과 이직의 원인 등을 규명하는 연구는 거의 없다고 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 이를 위한 기초연구로 사서인력의 경력이동 및 경력개발 현황에 대해서 조사하고자 하였다. 사서의 경력개발 과정 분석을 통해 도서관계 및 관련분야에서 근무하고 있는 사람들의 직장이동 경로, 경력개발을 위한 노력, 경력이동 요인 등을 파악하고자 하였다.

대학생 학생선수를 위한 진로교육 교과목 개발의 필요성 및 교과내용 제안 (A Study on the Necessity of Career Education Curriculum Development and the Educational Contents Proposal for College Student-athletes)

  • 일반 대학생을 위한 진로교육의 필요성이 제기되면서 이에 대한 많은 정책과 연구가 생성되고 있는 반면 대학생 학생선수를 위한 진로교육에 대한 대책은 딱히 이루어지고 있지 않다. 대학생 학생 선수들에 대한 진로교육이 제대로 이루어지고 있지 않은 이유에는 여러 가지가 있을 수 있지만 가장 큰 문제로 지적될 수 있는 것은 대학생 학생선수라는 특수한 모집단의 진로교육에 사용될 수 있는 적절한 콘텐츠가 충분히 개발되어있지 않다는 것이다. 본 연구의 목적은 대학생 학생선수의 진로교육 교과목 개발의 필요성을 제시하고 이를 위한 교과목에 어떠한 내용이 포함되어야 하는 지를 제언하고자 한다. 본 연구의 자료는 대학 스포츠 전문가, 스포츠 심리학자와 진로교육 전문가들의 전문가회의를 통해 생성되었으며 6차에 걸친 전문가 회의를 통해 현실적으로 대학생 학생선수들에게 적용가능한 수업의 구조를 결정하고 대학생 학생선수들에게 필요한 내용의 진로교육 내용을 결정한 후, 그 내용들을 16주의 교과과정으로 설계하였다.

간호대학(학과) 학사 편입과정 졸업생의 실태와 과정의 상대적 효율성 분석 (Profile of the accelerated second-degree bachelor of science in nursing program graduates and analysis of relative efficiency of programs)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the profile of graduates from accelerated second-degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs and to analyze the relative efficiency of nursing colleges using data envelopment analysis. Methods: An online survey link was emailed to the deans of nursing colleges, who were then asked to send the link to graduates of the respective colleges. The survey questionnaire included demographics, reasons for applying to the accelerated second-degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, employment after graduation, and nursing career satisfaction. Results: Sixty-two graduates of the accelerated second-degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing program responded to the survey. The mean age at admission was 24.28 (± 3.01) years. Reasons for applying to the accelerated second-degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing program were primarily increasing job security and using it as a stepping stone to another career. Nursing career job satisfaction was 4.81 (± 1.07) and more than 82% recommended this program. The data envelopment analysis found the average efficiency score to be 0.84 (± 0.20) and 4 nursing colleges to be relatively efficient. Conclusion: The accelerated second-degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing program can be considered to be an effective means to produce quality nurses with non-nursing bachelor degrees in a short time; however, outcomes of this program need to be systematically monitored to maintain quality level. Through this, competent nurses with knowledge of adjacent studies will be added to the nursing workforce.
