  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the applicability of rational emotive behavior therapy(REBT) technique to the horticultural activity program as a method of reducing irrational beliefs and job-seeking stress, and improving career maturity through the change of irrational beliefs. The subjects were 30 university students with irrational beliefs, 15 of them in the control group and 15 in the experimental group. The horticultural therapy program was carried out in total 10 sessions once a week for one and a half hours. For irrational beliefs, the experimental group showed a significant decrease (p=.002) in the total score after the program, but the control group showed an insignificant change (p=.529). Total job-seeking stress score was decreased significantly in the experimental group (p=.002) after the program, whereas it was increased in the control group (p=.023). For the career maturity, the experimental group showed a significant increase (p=.008) in the total score, whereas the control group showed a significant decrease (p=.028). Therefore, it can be found that REBT applied horticultural activity programs are helpful for reducing irrational beliefs and job-seeking stress and improving career maturity for young adults.

The data collected was examined via various statistical methods, including factor, reliability, correlation, and regression analyses using SPSS 20.0. The results indicated that socio-demographic characteristics affected job search stress and career maturity. Additionally, it was found that the job search-related stress of the students influenced their career maturity. To illustrate, job search stress and career maturity were positively related. Based on the results of the analyses, the authors confirm that the students of Security Services are suffering from a high level of stress resulting from job search, which impacts their career selection. Finally, policy implications are discussed, including alleviating the stress by providing diversified career choices to the students.

  • The main aim of this study is to find out whether an elementary school's science-invention program for gifted pupils has an effect on their attitude towards science-engineering sector or related careers for their future. For hypothesis testing, a class for gifted pupils of 6th grade in D elementary school, J elementary school is chosen. The experiment was implemented 12 times during the period. Major findings were as follows. In career maturity, there weren't statistically meaningful differences found between experimental and controlled group as a result of invention program. This result showed that the invention program is not appropriate to promote the career maturity. However, there were still some evidence of change in their attitudes to science-engineering. Based on the result, an invention program which fails to improve career maturity should be amended.

Data collection was conducted from November 2018 to February, 2019 in 236 students who understood the purpose of the study and agreed to participate in the study. The collected data were analyzed by frequency, mean, standard deviation, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple regression. The lower the career maturity (β=-.258), job stress was the higher. Also, the lower major satisfaction (β=-.377), the higher the job stress, and the lower the self-control (β=-.275), the job stress was the higher. Through these results, education programs that link students from their childhood to college students are needed to improve their career maturity, satisfaction with majors and self-control(r=-.410, p<.001).

  • The purpose of this study was to apply machine learning techniques (Decision Tree, Random Forest, XGBoost) to data from the 4th~6th year of the Seoul Education Longitudinal Study to find the factors predicting the career maturity of middle school students in Seoul city. In order to evaluate the machine learning application result, the performance of the model according to the indicators was checked. In addition, the model was analyzed using the XGBoostExplainer package, and R and R Studio tools were used for this study. As a result, there was a slight difference in the ranking of variable importance by each model, but the rankings were high in 'Achievement goal awareness', 'Creativity', 'Self-concept', 'Relationship with parents and children', and 'Resilience'. In addition, using the XGBoostExplainer package, it was found that the factors that protect and deteriorate career maturity by panel and 'Achievement goal awareness' is the top priority factor for predicting career maturity. Based on the results of this study, it was suggested that a comparative study of machine learning and variable selection methods and a comparative study of each cohort of the Seoul Education Termination Study should be conducted.

  • This study aimed to investigate the effects a strengths-based group counselling program had on self-esteem and career maturity of adolescents under probation. The subjects of the study were female adolescents under probation in Gwangju and were categorized into two groups: experiment group and control group consisting of 15 respectively. As a result, it was discovered that the strengths-based group counselling program had positive effects on enhancement of general and social self-esteem in the subjects while it did not have statistically significant effects on enhancement of family self-esteem. It indicates that positive relationship with parents and recovery of family functions should be encouraged to enhance the family self-esteem. Also, the strengths-based group counselling program had positive effects on planning, self-understanding, career knowledge and career preparation areas relating to career maturity while it did not have statistically significant effects on independence. It shows that to encourage the subjects to be independently prepared for career, family and society should provide more specific support for career guidance. Based on the results above, it was suggested that the strengths-based group counselling program had significant effects on self-esteem and career maturity of the subjects under probation. In conclusion, to encourage adolescents under probation to respect themselves and others, specifically plan their career and grow to be reliable and mature adults, further research on the strengths-based group counselling program is needed and diverse strategies including specific support through mentor service of college students should be developed.
