Recently the researches on modular multi-level converter (MMC) are being highlighted because high quality and efficient power transmission have become key issues in high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems. This paper proposes an improved pre-charging method for the sub-module (SM) capacitor of MMC-based HVDC systems, which operates in the nearest level control (NLC) modulation and does not need additional circuits or pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques. The feasibility of the proposed method was verified through computer simulations for a scaled 3-phase 10kVA MMC with 12 SMs per each arm. Hardware experiments with a scaled prototype have also been performed in the lab to confirm the simulation results.
In this paper, Around the world for electric vehicles are gaining attention and market trends to domestic and foreign policy. Current charging method developed techniques are discussed and is proposed for domestic situations and charging ways. The electric vehicle is emerging as a result of the energy efficiency issue, the combined battery and capacitor switching is proposed to use to offset the disadvantages of each method to improve the energy efficiency offers.

This paper proposes a new carrier-based PWM method to solve the most serious problem of flying capacitor multi-level inverter that is the unbalance of capacitor voltages. The voltage unbalance occurs due to the difference of each capacitor's charging and discharging time applied to Flying Capacitor Inverter. New solution controls the variation of capacitor voltages into the mean '0'during some period by means of new carriers using the leg voltage redundancy in the flying capacitor inverter. The solution can be easily expanded to the multi-level inverter. The leg voltage redundancy in the new method makes the switching loss of device equals to the conduction loss of device. This paper will examine the unbalance of capacitor voltage and the conventional theory of self-balance using Phase-shifted carrier. And then the new method that is suitable to the flying capacitor inverter will be explained.
This paper presents a control scheme with a focus on the combination of phase disposition pulse width modulation (PDPWM) and DC capacitor voltage control for a chopper-cell based modular multilevel converter (MMC) for the purpose of eliminating the time-consuming voltage sorting algorithm and complex voltage balancing regulators. In this paper, the convergence of the DC capacitor voltages within one arm is realized by charging the minimum voltage module and discharging the maximum voltage module during each switching cycle with the assistances of MAX/MIN capacitor voltage detection and PDPWM signals exchanging. The process of voltage balancing control introduces no extra switching commutation, which is helpful in reducing power loss and improving system efficiency. Additionally, the proposed control scheme also possess the merit of a simple executing procedure in application. Simulation and experimental results indicates that the MMC circuit together with the proposed method functions very well in balancing the DC capacitor voltage and improving system efficiency even under transient states.

This paper proposes a high-frequency (MHz) LLC resonant converter for a capacitor coupling wireless power transfer (CCWPT). The CCWPT uses electric field in the coupling capacitor between the transmitter and receiver electrodes with a dielectric layer. Given that capacitance is very small and the impedance is large, transferring power with a simple series resonance is difficult. Therefore, the high frequency (MHz) and high Q factor LLC converter is proposed to reduce the impedance of the coupling capacitance and to obtain a high output voltage. This paper deals with the operation analysis of the proposed LLC converter and a theoretical capacitance estimation. The operation and features of the proposed CCWPT LLC converter is verified with a 4.2 W prototype for charging mobile devices.
This paper is presents a initial starting of SST with high voltage level source. Rush current flowing as difference between capacitor level and grid level can crush the whole system. Thus, industries have used initial constituted by resistance and relay. However the initial circuit used in industries can't apply high voltage application due to isolation and economic feasible problems. Therefore many countries study method can charge capacitor with another voltage sources. Also this paper introduce method charging primary side capacitor efficiently.
This paper describes the analysis of a capacitor-driven induction coil-gun employing an equivalent circuit. The system differerntial equations are solved by using Runge-Kutta method. The velocity characteristics of projectile and current building in barrel ciols are studied. From the results, it is shown the optimal capacitance of capacitors, charging voltage and initial position of the projectile can be determined. These results will be used as the basis data for the design of capacitor driven coil-guns.

This paper present a 7-level PWM inverter adopting voltage balancing control to series-connected input capacitors. The prior proposed 7-level PWM inverter consists of dc input source, three series-connected capacitors, two bidirectional switch modules, and an H-bridge. This circuit topology is useful to increase the number of output voltage levels, however it fails to generate 7-level in output voltage without consideration for voltage balancing among series-connected capacitors. Capacitor voltage imbalance is caused on the different period between charging and discharging of capacitor. To solve this problem, we uses the amplitude modulation of carrier wave, which is used to produce the center output voltage level. To verify the validity of the proposed control method, we carried out computer-aided simulation and experiments using a prototype.

This paper discover another boost vectors in high modulation index In steady states, modulation index of converter operation is normally $0.7\~0.8[p.u]$. Even though zero vectors are not imposed, DC-Link voltage is constant because 3-level boost convert has another boost vectors. and this paper proposes the analysis and the comparison for NPC and H-Bridge converter. It proposed the calculation method for the voltage ripple and charging current of each capacitor and deals with voltage balance problems of each link capacitor they are associated with the switching state, the position of reference voltage vector. Simulation and analysis are used in order to prove validity of the proposed methods.
This paper proposes a Carrier-Rotation PWM technique that is new solution for the voltage unbalancing problem of flying capacitors in the Flying Capacitor Multi-level Inverter (FCMI).The proposed PWM technique equalizes the utilization of phase leg voltage redundancies corresponding to the charging and the discharging state of flying capacitors during one switching period of all the switches. it also has the same switch utilization and the reduced harmonics of output voltage. Hence, it is more suitable for the FCMI compared with the conventional solutions. Experimental results on the laboratory prototype flying capacitor 3-level inverter confirm the validity of the proposed PWM technique.
