주파수 전달함수를 이용한 신 포괄 곡선맞춤법 (New Global Curve-Fitting Method Using Frequency Response Function)

  • Several damping materials have been employed to reduce the vibration of structures. While it is important to estimate the damping matrix when analyzing damped composite structures using the finite element method (FEM), at present, there is no FEM program that can correctly estimate the damping matrix. In this paper, a new global curve-fitting method is proposed for identifying the system parameters of non-proportional damping structures using a frequency response function. An experimental test for a cantilever beam attached damping material was carried out to verify the performance of the method proposed in this study.

  • A modeling method for the impact analysis of plate structures employing Hertzian contact theory is presented in this paper. Since local deformation as well as bending deflection of the plate occurs due to the collision, it has to be considered for the impact analysis. When the coefficient of restitution is employed for the impact analysis, the local deformation is not considered. For more accurate and reliable impact analysis, however, the local deformation should be considered. The effects of the location of collision and the collision mass on the impact duration time and the contact force magnitude are investigated through numerical studies employing Hertzian contact theory.

Size-dependent plastic buckling behavior of micro-beam structures by using conventional mechanism-based strain gradient plasticity

  • Since the actuators with small- scale structures may be exposed to external reciprocal actions lead to create undesirable loads causing instability, the buckling behaviors of them are interested to make reliable or accurate actions. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to analyze plastic buckling behavior of the micro beam structures by adopting a Conventional Mechanism-based Strain Gradient plasticity (CMSG) theory. The effect of length scale on critical force is considered for three types of boundary conditions, i.e. the simply supported, cantilever and clamped - simply supported micro beams. For each case, the stability equations of the buckling are calculated to obtain related critical forces. The constitutive equation involves work hardening phenomenon through defining an index of multiple plastic hardening exponent. In addition, the Euler-Bernoulli hypothesis is used for kinematic of deflection. Corresponding to each length scale and index of the plastic work hardening, the critical forces are determined to compare them together.

Practical fatigue/cost assessment of steel overhead sign support structures subjected to wind load

  • Overhead sign support structures number in the tens of thousands throughout the trunk-line roadways in the United States. A recent two-phase study sponsored by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program resulted in the most significant changes to the AASHTO design specifications for sign support structures to date. The driving factor for these substantial changes was fatigue related cracks and some recent failures. This paper presents the method and results of a subsequent study sponsored by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to develop a relative performance-based procedure to rank overhead sign support structures around the United States based on a linear combination of their expected fatigue life and an approximate measure of cost. This was accomplished by coupling a random vibrations approach with six degree-of-freedom linear dynamic models for fatigue life estimation. Approximate cost was modeled as the product of the steel weight and a constructability factor. An objective function was developed and used to rank selected steel sign support structures from around the country with the goal of maximizing the objective function. Although a purely relative approach, the ranking procedure was found to be efficient and provided the decision support necessary to MDOT.

The Optimization of Truss Structures with Genetic Algorithms

  • This paper investigated the optimum design of truss structures based on Genetic Algorithms (GA's). With GA's characteristic of running side by side, the overall optimization and feasible operation, the optimum design model of truss structures was established. Elite models were used to assure that the best units of the previous generation had access to the evolution of current generation. Using of non-uniformity mutation brought the obvious mutation at earlier stage and stable mutation in the later stage; this benefited the convergence of units to the best result. In addition, to avoid GA's drawback of converging to local optimization easily, by the limit value of each variable was changed respectively and the genetic operation was performed two times, so the program could work more efficiently and obtained more precise results. Finally, by simulating evolution process of nature biology of a kind self-organize, self-organize, artificial intelligence, this paper established continuous structural optimization model for ten bars cantilever truss, and obtained satisfactory result of optimum design. This paper further explained that structural optimization is practicable with GA's, and provided the theoretic basis for the GA's optimum design of structural engineering.

위상 최적설계를 활용한 캔틸레버식 헬리데크 경량화 연구 (A Study on Lightweight Design of Cantilever-type Helideck Using Topology Design Optimization)

  • 해양구조물 등에서 해상 현장과 육상시설 사이에 물자나 운용 인력을 수송하기 위한 수단으로 헬리콥터가 주로 이용된다. 헬리데크는 헬리콥터가 해양구조물에 착륙하기 위해 필수적으로 탑재되는 구조물로서, 해양구조물의 종류나 탑재되는 위치 등에 따라 다양한 형태의 헬리데크가 존재한다. 그 중에서 캔틸레버식 헬리데크는 해양구조물의 탑사이드 공간 확보에 용이하며, 헬리콥터와의 충돌 등의 미연의 사고로부터 보다 안전하다. 본 논문에서는 캔틸레버식 헬리데크를 연구대상으로 선정하고, 이를 구성하고 있는 하부 트러스 구조에 대해서 위상 최적설계를 적용하였다. 또한 상용 구조해석 프로그램을 이용하여 유한요소 모델을 생성하고, 다양한 착륙 상황과 풍하중을 적용하여 구조해석을 수행하였다. 이를 바탕으로 헬리데크의 각 구조 부재에 발생하는 응력이 사용 재료의 허용응력을 넘지 않도록 부재의 세부 단면 치수를 결정하여, 보다 안전하면서도 경량화된 헬리데크 설계를 얻을 수 있다.

Analytical solutions for density functionally gradient magneto-electro-elastic cantilever beams

  • The general solution for two-dimensional magneto-electro-elastic media in terms of four harmonic displacement functions is proposed analytically. The expressions of specific solutions of magneto-electro-elastic plane problems with specific body forces are derived. Finally, based on the general solution in the case of distinct eigenvalues and the specific solution for density functionally gradient media, two kinds of beam problems with body forces depending only on the z or x coordinate are solved by the trial-and-error method.

  • The magnetoelastic interaction between electrically conducting structures and magnetic fields is suggested to be used as a possible means for vibration suppression mechanism in structural control. Effectiveness of the active control mechanism is demonstrated by an experiment which is performed to examine the basic tenets of magnetically induced vibration and magnetoelastic damping of a cantilevered beam virating in the presence of magnetic fields Experimental results show that the feedback control scheme works effectively. Several strategies are suggested to improve the controllability using the magnetic damping.

  • The 43 story, 178m tall Atlantis The Royal Resort and Residences tower nearing completion on the Palm in Dubai is a unique project in terms of its overall scale, geometry and form. The tower superstructure has a long narrow curved floor plan, measuring 400m in length above the podium with significant long span bridge structures forming voids and cantilevered blocks. This paper describes the innovative structural design solutions adopted and the construction solutions adopted by the Contractor to realize the Architectural vision.

구조물의 회복탄력성 기반 성능평가법에 대한 고찰 및 적용 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Resilience-Based Performance Evaluation Method of Structures and Their Application Plan)

  • The resilience performance evaluation method of a structure can evaluate the ability to recover after an earthquake disaster, and this study deals with the consideration and introduction of the resilience performance evaluation method. The resilience evaluation method can be expressed as a quantified number by constructing a loss estimation model and a recovery evaluation model. The recovery evaluation model should consider downtime in addition to the repair time, and the loss estimation model should consider not only direct loss to structures and non-structures, but also indirect loss due to functional loss of the building. In addition, to build a loss estimation model, the structure should be simplified to perform an efficient analysis. Therefore, in this study, the equivalent terminal induction system proposed cantilever-type and rahmen-type SDOF, and it is evaluated somewhat conservatively compared to the example structure, and it is judged that there is a need to improve the hysteresis characteristics by applying the stiffness reduction factor of the SDOF model.
