  • Recently, development and using a range of natural gas is widening because anxiety of oil supply is increasing. Especially, around the world, development for Storage and transportation of natural gas is rapidly growing. On the other hand, in Korea because of technology loss for cryogenic part material, key component is rely on import. LNG and LPG are the future core of natural fuels. That are getting a lot of support and it have increased the frequency of use. So it should be associated with the development of technology. And key technology about design and manufacturing for cryogenic butterfly valve are secured. In this paper, we analyze the strength evaluation for circumference pressurization type cryogenic butterfly valve using the fluid-structure analysis.

  • Because of industrial development, industrial facilities are becoming more complex and diversified. Plant industries are focused on productivity improvement, cost reduction, and product uniformity by simplifying production processes using automated control. Furthermore, plant industries require higher pressures and temperatures to improve energy efficiency. For this reason, the valves used in plants are operated under harsh conditions. Globe valves and gate valves are mainly used for high pressure these days. However, these valves have various problems, including low maintainability and high cost, due to structural problems. Therefore, butterfly and ball valve applications are increasing in industrial plants. This paper suggests a quadruple-offset butterfly valve that is applicable to bi-direction use, and the principle design parameters are suggested. The selected design parameters are an eccentric flange center line and shaft centerline(Offset 1), an eccentric seat centerline and disc shaft centerline(Offset 2), the angle between the flange centerline and seat wedge angle(Offset 3), the angle between the vertical direction of the disc shaft centerline and seat centerline(Offset 4), and the seat engagement angle. To analyze the interaction effect of the design parameters, ANOM and ANOVA were performed with an orthogonal array. The parameters were found to have effects in the following order: Offset 2, Offset 1, engagement angle, Offset 3, and Offset 4. The interaction between the parameters was insignificant.

  • The pump control valve is a butterfly valve that has an eccentric rotating axis. It is not only used as a butterfly valve to control the flow rate or pressure, but also as a check valve to prevent backward flow. A new design method of eccentric rotating axis is proposed to design the valve. The height of the rotating axis is determined through flow field analysis. A general purpose of computational fluid dynamics software system, Fluent is used to simulate the fluid flow. Flow field analysis is performed for various heights of the rotating axis and different opening angles of the valve. A characteristic function is defined for estimating the flow characteristics based on the results of flow field analysis. The characteristic function is defined in order to determine the height of the rotating axis. An optimization problem with a characteristic function is formulated to determine the amount of eccentricity. The height of the Totaling axis of the valve is determined through solving the optimization problem.

  • In this paper, the shape design process is briefly discussed emphasizing the use of topology optimization in the conceptual design stage. The basic idea is to view feasible domains for sensitivity region concepts. In this method, the main process consists of two steps: as the design moves further inside the feasible domain using Taguchi method, and thus becoming more successful topology optimization, the sensitivity region becomes larger. In designing a double-eccentric butterfly valve, related to hydrodynamic performance and disc structure, are discussed where the use of topology optimization has proven to dramatically improve an existing design and significantly decrease the development time of a shape design. CFD analysis results demonstrate the validity of this approach.

  • The water-hammer phenomena caused by pump power failure are analysed by digital computer. Asan cool ins water pipe system has been chosen as a model. It is Shown that after power failure the pressure at the pump outlet drops sharply, and to prevent reverse flow, either butterfly valve or check valve can be used. After the valve closure, pressure oscillates behind the valve. To weaken the pressure wave, it is recommended to install a servo-operated valve in a bypass Line around the pamp and the check valve.

  • In this paper, incompressible and compressible flow characteristics around the butterfly valve have been investigated. In order to simplify the problem, a flat disk valve with various valve disk angles and pressure ratios is considered in the present calculations. It was found that as the disk angle increases, the stagnation point on the front surface of the disk moves to the center of the surface and the inflow velocity decreases. The maximum flow velocity occurs at the downstream of throat because of the formation of vents contracta. As the pressure ratio decreases, compressibility effects increase and the jet formed between the throttle body wall and the disk edge becomes supersonic. This flow also builds up as a shock cell structure. The increase of disk angle and pressure ratio makes the mass flow at the inlet decrease, while the increase of disk angle and the decrease of pressure ratio make the pressure loss coefficient increase.

  • An experimental investigation has been carried out in order to evaluate characteristics of wetted-type multi-path ultrasonic flowmeters. The multi-path ultrasonic flowmeters were installed at various entrance and exit locations for several cases of pipe fitting(straight, $90^{\circ}$ double elbow) and valve(gate valve, butterfly valve). We measured the flow-rate at each location. The measurement data of test flowmeter were compared with the measured data of reference flowmeter. The uncertainties of reference flowmeter and test flowmeter are 0.3 %, 0.4 %, respectively. The results demonstrate the effects of flowmeter location as well as the measurement errors in flow rate. The distance between the flow disturbance factor and a flowmeter was an important element of the test.

  • Valves are one of the most important components of a pipeline system in a nuclear power plant, and it is important to ensure their structural safety under seismic loads. A crucial aspect of structural safety verification is the seismic qualification, and therefore, an optimal shape design and experimental seismic qualification is necessary in case the configuration of the valve parts needs to be modified and their performance needs to be improved. Recently, intensive numerical analyses have been performed before the experimental verification in order to determine the appropriate design variables that satisfy the performance requirements under seismic loads. In this study, static and dynamic numerical structural analyses of a 200A butterfly valve for a nuclear power plant were performed according to the KEPIC MFA. The result of static analysis considering an equivalent static load under SSE condition gave an applied stress of 135 MPa. In addition, the result of dynamic analysis gave an applied stress of 183 MPa, where the CQC method using response spectrums was taken into account. These values are under the allowable strength of the materials used for manufacturing the butterfly valve, and therefore, its structural safety satisfies the requirements of KEPIC MFA.
