  • To investigate an effect of bum on the cardiac function, we studied some biochemical assay, ultrastructural changes and stereological analysis in heart tissue. Sprague-Dawley rats were induced a 15% total body surface area scald burn. 5 and 24 hours later, the heart was excised. Burned rats showed the decrease of heart weight per body weight (%) compared with control. The activity of serum aspartate aminotransferase was significantly increased at 5 (p<0.001) and 24 hours (p<0.01) after burn compared with control. And the activity of serum LDH was decreased at 5 hours after burn but increased at 24 hours compared with control. Ultrastructurally, enlargement of interstitium and destruction of sarcolemma were observed at 5 and 24 hours after burn. Especially at 5 hours postburn, hypercontraction band was noted and at 24 hours, wavy fiber and muscle fraying were noted. In stereological changes, volume density of mitochondria and myofibril was significantly decreased at postburn 5 and 24 hours. But volume density of sarcoplasmic reticulum was significantly increased at postburn 5 hours. Our data suggest that dermal scald bum causes myocardial dysfunction.

  • Ti-6Al-4V alloy can be obtained the stability of organization and product treasure, the evaluation of the cutting ability and the mechanical characteristics after the heat treatment of annealing, solution and aging. The difficulty in machining titanium alloy is how treat the heat generated during the process. Because the heat conductivity of titanium alloy is regardfully low, the heat generated during grinding is accumulated in workpiece. and it causes the increasing of grinding wheel grits' wear and makes the ground surface rough. So, these characteristics in grinding of titanium alloy will change the mechanical properties of the titanium alloy. From this study. the mechanical characteristics of annealed one and solution and aging one treated Ti-6Al-4V alloy after grinding was concerned with checking out the bending strength and hardness. For the result, both of bending strength and hardness were increased at the burned area on the surface. Roughness value was remarkably high at the table speed of 10m/min.

  • Thermal burn occurred in the anesthetized dog as a result of using hot pack to treat hypothermia. After hospital discharge, thermal burn leaded to secondary infection due to dog bites of the other dog in the house. After secondary infection, the treatment was performed with medication and bandaging. Because of the pain and infection from the wound, carprofen (2 mg/kg bid) and amoxicillin (20 mg/kg bid) were administrated orally for 40 days. And for 35 days, wet-to-dry gauze dressing was used to absorb purulent exudate. During this period, the burn eschar was removed completely from the burn site. After 35 days, the hydrophilic polyurethane foam ($Medifoam^{(R)}$, Ildong Pharm, Co., Korea) was admitted to the burn site for 30 days. $Medifoam^{(R)}$ made healing rate of the wound faster because the inner layer did not adhered to the wound, and newly formed tissue was protected. The second layer, hydrophilic absorptive layer absorbed excessive fluid and kept the wound surface moist. After 65 days after thermal burn, the wound was healed completely.

  • In this study, the relative effectiveness of antimony trioxide-containing coat on fire retardancy of plywood, particleboard and medium density fiberboard was investigated and compared through ISO ignition test and inclined panel test with non-coated ones. The results obtained were summarized as fallows: Any treated materials was not ignited in inclined panel test with 5 minutes, but only particleboard among treated ones burned in ISO ignition test with fairly delayed time. The weight loss rate of plywood decreased with the increased addition level of fire-retardant and the least values were obtained in particleboard and MDF at addition level of 7% and 5% respectively. Carbonized area of wood based materials decreased with the increased addition level of fire retardant. The temperatures of back in plywood, particleboard treated with fire-retard ant coat containing 7% $Sb_2O_3$ showed the lowest but MDF did not show any effectiveness with the increased addition level. The first flash time of plywood treated with fire retardant coat containing 9% $Sb_2O_3$, MDF and particleboard treated with fire retardant coat containing 7% $Sb_2O_3$ were 257sec., 286.4sec., 165.4sec. respectively.

  • The synthetic conditions and characteristics of ZSM-5 type zeolites (ZSM-5/silicalite) for the preparation of the zeolite composite membranes for gas separation were investigated. ZSM-5 zeolites could be synthesized by the hydrothermal treatment of the mixture of colloidal silica sol aluminum nitrate sodium hydroxide and TPABr at a temperature range of 150-17$0^{\circ}C$ in the autoclave. Silicalties were done from the solution of water glass water and TPABr. Their crystalline structures transformed from orthorhombic to monoclinic from and their pore structures of three-dimensional channels were opened as TPABr filling channels was burned off at the calcination temperature of 50$0^{\circ}C$. The specific surface area of the calcined zeolite was about 360 m3/g and its surface property was hydrophobic. Crystal sizes of ZSM-5 and silicalite were 0.5-1.0${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 8-10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ respectively having no change due to the calcination. In particular the shape and the size of the ZSM-5 type zeolite were sensitively varied with silica sources and concentrations of reaction solutions/sols.

  • Flow velocity was measured by, use of hot wire anemometer. Turbulence intensity was in proportion to mean flow velocity regardless of swirl velocity. And integral length scale has proportional relation with swirl velocity regardless of measurement position. Turbulent burning speed during flame propagation which was determined by flame photograph and gas pressure of combustion chamber was increased with the lapse of time from spark and was decreased a little at later combustion period. Because of combustion promotion effect, turbulent burning speed was increased according to increase of turbulence intensity. Burning speed ratio i.e. ratio of turbulent burning speed ($S_BT$) to laminar burning speed ($S_BL$) was found out by use of turbulence intensity u' and integral length scale $l_x$ , $\delta_L$ is width of preheat zone in laminar flame.

  • An experimental study was carried out to obtain the fundamental data about the effect of sub-chamber on pre-mixture combustion. A eve (constant volume combustor) divided into a sub-chamber and a main chamber was used in this experiment. The volume of the sub-chamber was varid trom $0.45\%$ to $1.4\%$ about the whole combustion chamber. The sub-chamber has twelve narrow radial passage holes and a spark plug to ignite the pre-mixture. As the ignition occurs in the sub-chamber by a spark discharge, burned and unburned gas including a great number of radicals is injected into the main chamber, then the multi-point ignition occurs in the main chamber. The combustion pressure is measured to calculate the burning velocity mainly as a function of the sub-chamber volume, the diameter of the passage holes, and the equivalence ratio. In the case of RI (radical ignition) methods, the overall burning time became very short and the maximum burning pressure was slightly increased as compared with that of SI (spark ignition) method. The optimum design value of the sub-chamber is near 0.11 $cm^{-l}$ in the ratio of total area of holes to the sub-chamber volume.

  • This paper presents the capability to use QuickBird imagery for effects of forest disturbance in Okgye burned area. Particular attention of this paper deals with the NBR-derived mapping burn severity on QuickBird imagery to locate reliable rehabilitation(namely, secondary succession) over postfire surface. Comparisons of the mapping forest disturbance derived from QuickBird NBR data and the mapping burn severity derived from Landsat ${\Delta}NBR$ data show substantial agreement (KHAT value =0.7886). The method calculated from the correlation between QuickBird wetness and Landsat ETM+ band7 may have application to forest harvest disturbance.

  • UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) images can be exploited for rapid forest fire damage assessment by virtue of UAV systems' advantages. In 2019, catastrophic forest fire occurred in Goseong and Sokcho, Korea and burned 1,757 hectares of forests. We visited the town in Goseong where suffered the most severe damage and conducted UAV flights for forest fire damage assessment. In this study, economic and rapid damage assessment method for forest fire has been proposed using UAV systems equipped with only a RGB sensor. First, forest masking was performed using automatic elevation thresholding to extract forest area. Then ExG (Excess Green) vegetation index which can be calculated without near-infrared band was adopted to extract damaged forests. In addition, entropy filtering was applied to ExG for better differentiation between damaged and non-damaged forest. We could confirm that the proposed forest masking can screen out non-forest land covers such as bare soil, agriculture lands, and artificial objects. In addition, entropy filtering enhanced the ExG homogeneity difference between damaged and non-damaged forests. The automatically detected damaged forests of the proposed method showed high accuracy of 87%.

  • To analyze the distribution pattern of flood sediment deposits near the mouth of Chucheoncheon (river), side scan sonar images and seafloor sediment properties were investigated in the offshore area within about 50 m deep in water. Based on the analysis result of the sonar images, the seafloor of the study area is divided into three areas of basement, sandy-mud, and dispersed flood sediment. The colors of sonar images in each area are represented by dark black, light grey, and greyish black, respectively. The sediment composition in the grey black area shows 33.73% of gravel, 62.88% of sand, 3.37% of silt, and 0.02% of clay. On the other hand, the composition of the light grey area is 10.31% of sand, 56.42% of silt, and 33.27% of clay. Especially the sediment of the grey black area contains the considerable amount of burned plant fragments in black color, which could distinctly be differentiated from those in the offshore. The distribution pattern of the flood sediment deposits suggests that the land-originated detrital sediments seem to be transported from the Chucheon river into offshore along the shore rather than transversely. In conclusion, the longshore current of the study area is probably dominant to affect the spatial distribution of bottom features.
