In general, the response of bulk material is independent of its size when it comes to considering classical elasticity theory. Because the surface to bulk ratio of the large solids is very small, the influence of surface can be negligible. But the surface effect plays important role as the surface to bulk ratio becomes larger, that is, the contribution of the surface effect must be considered in nano-size elements such as thin film or beam structure. Molecular dynamics computation has been a conventional way to analyze these ultra-thin structures but this method is limited to simulate on the order of $10^6-10^8$ atoms for a few nanoseconds, and besides, very time consuming. Analysis of structures in submicro to micro range(thin-film, wire etc.) is difficult with classical molecular dynamics due to the restriction of computing resources and time. Therefore, in this paper, the continuum-based method is considered to simulate the overall physical and mechanical properties of the structures in nano-scale, especially, for the thin-film.
The effect of buildings on flow in urban canopy is one of the most important problems in local/micro-scale meteorology. A large eddy simulation model is used to simulate the flow structure in an urban neighborhood and the bulk effect of the buildings on surrounding flows is analyzed. The results demonstrate that: (a) The inflow conditions affect the detailed flow characteristics much in the building group, including: the distortion or disappearance of the wake vortexes, the change of funneling effect area and the change of location, size of the static-wind area. (b) The bulk effect of the buildings leads to a loss of wind speed in the low layer where height is less than four times of the average building height, and this loss effect changes little when the inflow direction changes. (c) In the bulk effect to environmental fields, the change of inflow direction affects the vertical distribution of turbulence greatly. The peak value of the turbulence energy appears at the height of the average building height. The attribution of fluctuations of different components to turbulence changes greatly at different height levels, in the low levels the horizontal speed fluctuation attribute mostly, while the vertical speed fluctuation does in high levels.
Bulk-loading an R-tree can be a good approach to build an efficient one. However, it takes a lot of time to bulk-load an R-tree for huge amount of data. In this paper, we propose a parallel R-tree construction scheme based on a Hadoop framework. The proposed scheme divides the data set into a number of partitions for which local R-trees are built in parallel via Map-Reduce operations. Then the local R-trees are merged into an global R-tree that covers the whole data set. While generating the partitions, it considers the spatial distribution of the data into account so that each partition has nearly equal amounts of data. Therefore, the proposed scheme gives an efficient index structure while reducing the construction time. Experimental tests show that the proposed scheme builds an R-tree more efficiently than the existing approaches.
Macrocyclic ligands have been studies as cation carriers in a bulk liquid membrane system. $Cu^{2+}$ has been transported using nitrogen substituted macrocycles as carriers and several transition metal ions($M^{n+}\;=\;Mn^{2+},\;Co^{2+},\;Ni^{2+},\;Cd^{2+},\;Pb^{2+}\;and\;Ag^{+}$) have been transported using $DBN_3O_2,\;DBN_2O_2,\;Me_6N_414C4$ and DA18C6 as carriers in a bulk liquid membrane system. Competitive $Cu^{2+}-M2^+$ transport studies have also been carried out for the same system. In single cation transport experiments, the best macrocyclic ligand for transport is a ligand that gives a moderately stable rather than very stable complex in the extraction. However, when both cations are present in the source phase, the cation which forms the most stable complex with carrier is favored in transport over other cations. Generally, the nitrogen substiituted macrocycles transport $Cu^{2+}$ selectively over $Mn^+$. Ligand structure, equilibrium constant (or stability constant) for complex formation, source phase pH and carrier concentration are also important parameters in transport experiments.
The study of the thickness dependence of the electron energy structure of Fe, Ni, Ti and Zr sublayers in Ni/Ti and Fe/Zr multilayers by using the experimental and computer simulated optical spectroscopy has been performed. A series of Ni/Ti and Fe/Ze multiayered films (MLF) with a bilayer period of 0.5 - 30 nm and constant (Ni/Ti) / different (Fe/Zr) sublayer thickness ratios were prepared by using computer-controlled double-pair target face-to-face sputtering onto a glass substrate at room temperature (RT) Computer simulation of the resulting optical properties of these MLF was carried out by solving of multireflection problem with a matrix method assuming either "sharp" interfaces resulting in rectangular depth profiles of the components or "mixed" (alloy-like) interfaces of variable thickness between pure-metal sublayers. Optical constants of pure bulk metals as well as equiatomic alloy interfaces were employed in these simulations. It was shown that the difference between experimental and simulated optical properties of the investigated MLF increases with decrease in sublayer thickness. This result allows to conclude that the electronic structures of sublayers below 4-5 nm thickness in mlf differ from the corresponding bulk metals.ponding bulk metals.
We fabricated a hybrid bulk/fully depleted silicon on insulator (FDSOI) complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) active pixel image sensor. The active pixel is comprised of reset and source follower transistors on the SOI seed wafer, while the pinned photodiode and readout gate and floating diffusion are fabricated on the SOI handle wafer after the removal of the buried oxide. The source of dark current is eliminated by hybrid bulk/FDSOI pixel structure between localized oxidation of silicon (LOCOS) and photodiode(PD). By using the low noise hybrid pixel structure, dark currents qm be suppressed significantly. The pinned photodiode can also be optimized for quantum efficiency and reduce the noise of dark current. The spectral response of the pinned photodiode on the SOI handle wafer is very flat between 400 nm and 700 nm and the dark current that is higher than desired is about 10 nA/cm2 at a $V_{DD}$ of 2 V.
In this paper, we analyze the structure characteristics of $As_{40}Se_{50-x}S_{x}Ge_{10}$ system bulk and thin films. As the results of XRD patterns, it identified amorphous state. In order to find the glass transition temperature($T_g$), crystallization($T_c$) and melting point ($T_m$)of bulk sample, it ascertained that TS1gT is 238$^{\circ}C$ in $As_{40}Se_{15}S_{35}Ge_{10}$, and 231$^{\circ}C$ in $As_{40}Se_{25}S_{25}Ge_{10}$ & $As_{40}Se_{50}Ge_{10}$ following the thernal analysis by DSC, DTA, & TGA method. Also it was confirmed the phase seperation of continuous phase and dispertion phase by the optical texture of polarizing microscope and $T_g$ near 20$0^{\circ}C$ in thin film. Therefore, it was found that it occurs the phase seperation of Ge-rich dontinuous phase and Se-rich dispersion phase following the EDS analysis of thin film and the surface SEM photograph.
AIN-based film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) devices which adopt a membrane-type configuration such as Mo/AIN/bottom-metal/Si are fabricated by employing a novel process. The proposed resonator structure does not require any supporting layer above the substrate, which leads to the reduction in energy loss of the resonators. For all the FBAR devices, the frequency response characteristics are measured and the device parameters, such as return loss and input impedance, are extracted from the frequency responses, and analyzed in terms of the various metals such as Al. Cu, Mo, W used in the bottom-electrode. The mass-loading effect caused by the used bottom-electrode metals is found to be the main reason for the difference revealed in the measured characteristics of the fabricated FBAH devices. The results obtained in this study also show that the degree of match in lattice constant and thermal expansion coefficient hetween piezoelectric layers and electrode metals is crucial to determine the device performance of FEAR.
The composition and structure of dendrite phase within $Zr_{76.11}Ti_{4.20}Cu_{4.51}Ni_{3.16}Be_{1.49}Nb_{10.53}$ bulk metallic glass (BMG) were confirmed by using an EPMA, XRD and TEM, respectively. The chief elements of dendrite phase were Zr-Ti-Nb and had a BCC structure. The thermal properties of this BMG have been then subsequently investigated by using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The glass transition and crystallization onset temperatures were determined as $339.7^{\circ}C$ and $375.8^{\circ}C$ for this alloy, respectively. Mechanical properties have also been examined by conducting a series of uniaxial compression tests at various temperatures within supercooled liquid region under the strain rates between $10^{-4}/s$ and $3{\times}10^{-2}/s$. The deformation behavior of BMG composite within supercooled liquid region is similar to one of Vit-1 exhibiting amorphous single phase alloy. The flow stresses of BMG composite, however, are entirely higher than those of Vit-1 because dendrite phases are interfere with moving of atoms.
According to the composition of LTCC material, though it was thought that bulk defect which was made in forming process effects on the densification during the sintering, it was not reported systemically. In this study, we evaluated crystal structure, 3 point bending strength, hardness and microstructure of the samples by uniaxial pressing and tape casting using the commercial powders of the crystallizing glass and the glass/ceramic composite. In the case of glass/ceramic composite, Viox-001 powder with residual glass in the sintering, 3 point bending strength was similar regardless of forming process due to fill the bulk defect by residual glass. In the case of crystallizing glass, MLS-22, because glass phase was small in the sintering, glass did not fill the pore in the sample by uniaxial pressing process, therefore, the 3 point bending strength of it was 167 MPa. However, the 3 point bending strength of the sample by tape casting was 352 MPa and much higher. Meanwhile, crystal structure and hardness were similar regardless of forming process.
