The process of cavitation involves generation, growth, coalescence, and collapse of small bubbles and is tremendously influenced by bubble-bubble interactions. To understand these interactions, a new cavitation model based on the transport equation is proposed herein. The modified Rayleigh-Plesset equation is analyzed to determine the bubble growth rate by assuming equal-sized spherical bubble clouds. The source term in the transport equation is then derived according to the bubble growth rate with the bubble-bubble interaction. The proposed model is validated by various test simulations, including microscopic bubble cloud evolution as well as macroscopical two- and three-dimensional cavitating flows. Compared with previous models, namely the Kunz and Zwart cavitation models, the newly proposed model does not require adjustable parameters and generally results in better predictions both microscopic and macroscopical cases. This model is more physical.
In this article, vapor bubble nucleation in liquid and the evaporation process of a liquid droplet at its superheat limit were discussed from the viewpoint of molecular clustering (molecular cluster model for bubble nucleation). For the vapor bubble formation, the energy barrier against bubble nucleation was estimated by the molecular interaction due to the London dispersion force. Bubble nucleation by quantum tunneling in liquid helium under negative pressure near the absolute zero temperature and bubble nucleation on cavity free micro heaters were also presented as the homogenous nucleation processes.
This paper presents bubble wake measurement results generated by the planing hull. The bubble was generated by SNAME TMB model(No. 4876) with hard chine at the CWC(Circulating Water Channel). ABS(Acoustic Bubble Spectrometer) was used to measure bubble wake measurement. The manufactured model is one meter in length and uniform velocity to generate the bubble at CWC is 3m/s, relatively higher speed than conventional hull form. Measurements were performed successfully and measured results show well the general characteristics of bubble wake generated by planing hull. Furthermore, experimental equations are proposed for the practical use.
We experimentally investigate a rising toroidal bubble impacting a free surface. The toroidal bubble is created by releasing pulsed air. By adjusting the volume and circulation of the toroidal bubble, the characteristics of interactions between the toroidal bubble and the free surface are identified. Because of the impact by the toroidal bubble, the free surface is convexly deformed upwards above the center point of the toroidal bubble, while the edge of the deformed free surface is pulled down. When the circulation of the bubble becomes stronger, the surface which was pulled down breaks eventually, and air above the free surface is entrained into water, forming an unstable toroidal bubble. The deformations at the center and edge of the free surface are in a linear relationship with the Froude number and the Weber number, respectively.
The droplet ejection process driven by an evaporating bubble in a thermal inkjet printhead is investigated by numerically solving the conservation equations for mass, momentum and energy. The phase interfaces are tracked by a level set method which is modified to include the effect of phase change at the interface and extended for multiphase flows with irregular solid boundaries. The compressibility effect of a bubble is also included in the analysis to appropriately describe the bubble expansion behaviour associated with the high pressure caused by bubble nucleation. The whole process of bubble growth and collapse as well as droplet ejection during thermal inkjet printing is simulated without employing a simplified semi-empirical bubble growth model. Based on the numerical results, the jet breaking and droplet formation behaviour is observed to depend strongly on the bubble growth and collapse pattern. Also, the effects of liquid viscosity, surface tension and nozzle geometry are quantified from the calculated bubble growth rate and ink droplet ejection distance.

The bubble model by Keller and Prosperetti is adapted to solve the nonlinear oscillation of a gas bubble. This formulation leads to accurate results since it introduces the energy equation instead of the polytropic assumption for the bubble interior. The numerical method used in this study is stable enough to handle large amplitude of bubble oscillation. The numerical results show some interesting nonlinear phenomena fur the bubble oscillator. The excitation changes the natural frequency of the bubble and makes some harmonic resonances at $f/f_0=1/2, 1/3$ and so on. The natural frequency of a bubble oscillator decreases compared with the linear case result, which means that the nonlinear bubble oscillation system is a "softening"system. In addition, the frequency response curve jumps up or down at a certain frequency. It is also found that there exist multi-valued regions in the frequency response curve depending on the initial conditions of bubble. The dependency of the bubble motion on the initial condition can generate extremely large pressure and temperature which might be the cause of the acoustic cavitation and the sonoluminescence.inescence.

In this paper, effects of physical configurations and operating conditions on bubble column performance were analyzed in terms of bubble hydrodynamic and mass transfer parameters. Bubble column with 3 different dimensions and 7 gas diffusers (single / multiple orifice and rigid / flexible orifice) were applied. High speed camera and image analysis program were used for analyzing the bubble hydrodynamic parameters. The local liquid-side mass transfer coefficient ($k_L$) was estimated from the volumetric mass transfer coefficient ($k_La$) and the interfacial area (a), which was deduced from the bubble diameter ($D_B$) and the terminal bubble rising velocity ($U_B$). The result showed that the values of kLa and a increased with the superficial gas velocity (Vg) and the size of bubble column. Influences of gas diffuser physical property (orifice size, thickness and orifice number) can be proven on the generated bubble size and the mass transfer performance in bubble column. Concerning the variation of $k_L$ coefficients with bubble size, 3 zones (Zone A, B and C) can be observed. For Zone A and Zone C, a good agreement between the experimental and the predicted $K_L$ coefficients was obtained (average difference of ${\pm}15%$), whereas the inaccuracy result (of ${\pm}40%$) was found in Zone B. To enhance the high $k_La$ coefficient and absorption efficiency in bubble column, it was unnecessary to generate numerous fine bubbles at high superficial gas velocity since it causes high power consumption with the great decrease of $k_L$ coefficients.
Spacer grid with mixing vane had been widely used in nuclear reactor core. One of the main feather of spacer grid with mixing vane was that strong swirl flow was formed after the spacer grid. The swirl flow not only changed the bubble generation in the near wall field, but also affected the bubble behaviors in the center region of the subchannel. The interaction between bubble and the swirl flow was one of the basic phenomena for the two phase flow modeling in fuel assembly. To obatin better understanding on the bubble behaviors in swirl flow, full three dimension numerical simulations were conducted in the present paper. The swirl flow was assumed in the cylindral calculation domain. The bubble interface was captured by Volume Of Fluid (VOF) method. The properties of saturated water and steam at different pressure were applied in the simulation. The bubble trajectory, motion, shape and force were obtained based on the bubble parameters captured by VOF. The simulation cases in the present study included single bubble with different size, at different angular velocity conditions and at different pressure conditions. The results indicated that bubble migrated to the center in swirl flow with spiral motion type. The lateral migration was mainly related to shear stress magnitude and bubble size. The bubble moved toward the center with high velocity when the swirl magnitude was high. The largest bubble had the highest lateral migration velocity in the present study range. The effect of pressure was small when bubble size was the same. The prelimenery simulation result would be beneficial for better understanding complex two phase flow phenomena in fuel assembly with spacer grid.
A density based method with homogeneous cavitation model to investigate cavitation-bubble collapsing behavior is proposed and applied to bubble-shock interaction problems. By applying this method, cylindrical bubbles located in the liquid and incident liquid shock wave are computed. Bubble collapsing behavior, shock-bubble interaction and shock transmission/reflection pattern are investigated.

In the present study, the characteristics of upward bubble flow were experimentally investigated in a liquid bath. The velocity of upward bubble flow was calculated for two different experimental conditions:1) bubble flow without kinetic energy 2) bubble flow with kinetic energy. Bubble flow without kinetic energy starts to undergo the effect of buoyancy l0cm away from the nozzle. Whereas. kinetic energy is dominant before 30 cm away from the nozzle in bubble flow but after this point kinetic energy and inertial force are applied on bubble flow at the same time In addition, as the flow rate increases the maximum velocity point moves to the nozzle. The velocity Profiles near free surface is extremely irregular due to surface flow. Gas volume fraction is high near the nozzle due to gas concentration. but decreases with the increasement of axial position. Gas volume fraction does not vary after the axial position, z=60 in spite of the increasement of flow.
