  • This thesis proposes the emotions acquired after listening to the music as an emotion model composed of 8 types of emotions, based on the emotion model studied previously. The 5 musical factors selected, that affect the emotion, are tempo, dynamics, amplitude change, brightness, and noise. According to the emotion model composed of 8 types of emotions, 160 songs categorized into the 8 types of emotions were selected, and the actual data was extracted and analyzed. Through the analysis of actual data, an emotion equation made of weighted value of 5 factors was derived, and an algorithm that can predict the emotion by mapping on the 2-dimensional emotion coordinate system through the emotion equation was designed. Also, a way of controlling emotion by moving the coordinates on the 2-dimensional emotion coordinate system was suggested.

  • In this study an automatic rolling-coil labeling system using robot vision system and peripheral mechanism is proposed and implemented, which instead of the manual labor to attach labels Rolling-coils in a steel mill. The binary image process for the image processing is performed with the threshold, and the contour line is converted to the binary gradient which detects the discontinuous variation of brightness of rolling-coils. The moments invariant algorithm proposed by Hu is used to make it easy to recognize even when the position of the center are different from the trained data. The position error compensation algorithm of six degrees of freedom industrial robot manipulator is also developed and the data of the position of the center rolling-coils, which is obtained by floor mount camera, are transferred by asynchronous communication method. Therefore, even if the position of center is changed, robot moves to the position of center and performs the labeling work successfully. Therefore, this system can be improved the safety and efficiency.

  • A Gabor filter is a linear filter used for edge detectionas frequency and orientation representations of Gabor filters are similar to those of the human visual system. In this thesis, we propose a pedestrian detection algorithm using a Gabor filter bank. In order to extract the features of the pedestrian, we use various image processing algorithms and data structure algorithms. First, color image segmentation is performed to consider the information of the RGB color space. Second, histogram equalization is performed to enhance the brightness of the input images. Third, convolution is performed between a Gabor filter bank and the enhanced images. Fourth, statistical values are calculated by using the integral image (summed area table) method. The calculated statistical values are used for the feature matrix of the pedestrian area. To evaluate the proposed algorithm, the INRIA pedestrian database and SVM (Support Vector Machine) are used, and we compare the proposed algorithm and the HOG (Histogram of Oriented Gradient) pedestrian detector, presentlyreferred to as the methodology of pedestrian detection algorithm. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is more accurate compared to the HOG pedestrian detector.

  • Using deep images taken at Maidanak 1.5m telescope, at McDonald 2.1m telescope and Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, Dupont 2.5m telescope we investigated the fraction of merging galaxies in hosts of 39 AGN which are brighter than M = -22 mag and nearer than z = 0.3. We found that 16 to 17 of 39 AGN host galaxies show the evidence of mergers like tidal tail, shell via careful visual inspection. We also studied with the merging fraction of a control sample, SDSS Stripe82 early type galaxies of which surface brightness limit and bulge magnitude are similar to that of the AGN sample. We found that merging fraction of the AGN sample is higher than that of early type galaxy samples in the whole range of bulge magnitude. This result implies that AGN activity may be correlated with merging. We also investigated the detailed morphology of merging feature. At least - 1/4 of control samples classified as a tidal and tidal+dust are shell structures. On the other hand only one (5.9%) of AGN sample classified as merger shows shell structures, and almost all merging AGNs show tidal tail features. From point of view that tidal tail may be at the early stage of merging, and shell may be at the late stage of mergers, this result suggests that AGN might be evolved into early-type galaxies after merging.

  • The parcel wrapper for cigarettes has been used as the package and media materials for protection and design of product brands. The design of parcel wrapper has been contributed to the delivery of brand image and motivated consumer to purchase the brand. Therefore, the properties of parcel wrapper have been paid attention to highlight the design image, and increasing opacity of media materials has been one of the effective ways to obtain clear design on the paper surface. This study was carried out to improve the opacity of parcel wrapper for cigarettes. The effects of pulp composition and inorganic fillers in the furnish on the optical and mechanical properties were investigated. The use of hardwood in the stock preparation gave the increased opacity of paper than that of softwood. The application of higher refractive indices of fillers was effective to improve opacity. Brightness, tensile strength and stiffness were affected by the retained filler amount on the paper. Increase of filler contents decrease the tensile strength and stiffness due to the lesser bonding ability of fibers.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive image enhancement algorithm. The proposed algorithm is classified with the MIE technique for intensity enhancement of input image and MSE techniques for saturation enhancement. The MIE technique is proposed to control the gamut mapping problem and a sudden change in image-brightness while Luminance signal is processing, The MSE techniques are proposed to control de-saturation or over-saturation while chrominance signal is processing. The proposed algorithm is focused on processing preference color for human vision in order to generate better image quality than the algorithms focused on processing uniformly to whole images, This algorithm can be applied to a monitor, TV and other display devices for high quality image.

  • Using deep images taken at Maidanak 1.5m telescope, at McDonald 2.1m telescope and Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, we investigated the fraction of merging galaxies in hosts of 26 AGN which are brighter than M = -22.2 mag and nearer than z = 0.2. We found that 9 to 12 of 26 AGN host galaxies show the evidence of mergers like tidal tail, shell via visual inspection. We also studied with the merging fraction of a control sample, SDSS Stripe82 galaxies. Surface brightness limit and magnitude are similar to that of the AGN sample. We found that merging fraction of the AGN sample is higher than that of normal galaxy samples. This result implies that AGN activity may be correlated with merging. We also investigated the detailed morphology of merging feature. About ~1/4 of control sample classified as a tidal and tidal+dust are shell structures. On the other hand only one of the AGN sample shows shell structures. Almost all merging AGNs show tidal tail features. • In this paper, LED lighting system is realized by using Bluetooth wireless communications and smartphones. A bluetooth module with a lighting control function is manufactured by miniaturizing a development board of TI company and the volume of LED dimming system as a whole is reduced. And a trial product is materialized by designing a hardware composed of the manufactured bluetooth module, LED down light equipped with degree warm white and cool white, and 2-channel LED driver; and LED dimming software. The materialized trial product is controled in terms of the brightness and color temperature of LED light source using an application of a smartphone. The experiment showed that the users can easily control the intensity of illumination of LED light source by using the scroll bar of the applications of smartphones. In addition, the color temperatures of both warm white and cool white can be controlled, and when the color temperature of the trial product using the manufactured bluetooth module is compared with that of a trial product of TI company, they show the same color temperatures.

  • Edge Detection is a technique that obtains the particular information of the image using the brightness variation of pixel values and utilized for preprocessing in various image processing sectors. The conventional edge detection methods such as Sobel, Prewitt and Roberts are processed by applying the same weighted value to the entire pixels regardless of pixel distrbution and provides somewhat insufficient edge detection results. therefore, this paper has proposed an edge detection method considering the direction and magnitute of pixels by applying a modified directional mask.
