In this paper, measured and calculated responses are compared in order to give how the static and dynamic responses occurred in steel railway bridges due to train loads could be calculated appropriately. From this, it is investigated how the impact factors are varied by changing the train speed above 100km/h Field measurement is carried out by the steel strain gages and displacement transducers at the main design points, and then the static and dynamic response, fundamental frequencies, damping ratios and impact factors of the bridges are obtained. Static analysis is done using the computer program developed according to three dimensional matrix structural analysis in which the trains and bridges are modelled as 1,2 and 3 dimensions. Dynamic analysis is done according to 2 approaches, the moving force and mass problem. In moving force problem, the solutions are obtained by the modesuperposition-method and in moving mass problem by the direct integration method. From this study, it is known that in order to obtain the static response in the railway bridges, the bridge could be modelled by 1 or 2 dimension as in the highway bridge, however the response ratio(measured/calculaled) is high comparing to the highway bridges. By the way, the dynamic response should be obtained by the moving mass problem. And by comparing the measured and code specified impact factors, it is known that the factors specified in the present railway bridge code are very safe under the present service speed below 100km/h. However, because the factors become very high under the speed above 100km/h, especially in the simple plate girder bridge, it is thought that the code specification on impact factor should be discussed enough under the rapid transit system.

The cables in cable-stayed bridges are under high stress and are very sensitive to vibration due to their small section areas compared with other members. Therefore, it is reasonable to evaluate the cable impact factor by taking into account the dynamic effect due to moving-vehicle motion. In this study, the cable impact factors were evaluated via moving-vehicle-load analysis, considering the design parameters, i.e., vehicle weight, cable model, road surface roughness, vehicle speed, longitudinal distance between vehicles. For this purpose, two steel composite cable-stayed bridges with 230- and 540-m main spans were selected. The results of the analysis were then compared with those of the influence line method that is currently being used in design practice. The road surface roughness was randomly generated based on ISO 8608, and the convergence of impact factors according to the number of generated road surfaces was evaluated to improve the reliability of the results. A9-d.o.f. tractor-trailer vehicle was used, and the vehicle motion was derived from Lagrange's equation. 3D finite element models for the selected cable-stayed bridges were constructed with truss elements having equivalent moduli for the cables, and with beam elements for the girders and the pylons. The direct integration method was used for the analysis of the bridge-vehicle interaction, and the analysis was conducted iteratively until the displacement error rate of the bridge was within the specified tolerance. It was acknowledged that the influence line method, which cannot consider the dynamic effect due to moving-vehicle motion, could underestimate the impact factors of the end-cables at the side spans, unlike moving-vehicle-load analysis.

Recently, in field of bridge construction, modular technology has been studied to reduce construction period, traffic impact and environmental impact. This study is a part of research related to the modular bridges. The aim of the study is to analyze the structural behavior and evaluate a serviceability for transverse connection of modular slab bridge. A total of four specimens were fabricated. including a control beam for finding the maximum load by static test. And one control beam and two segmental beams were fabricated for cyclic loading test. As the test result, the beams that were introduced 100% of the design prestressing force showed a smaller maximum deflection, residual deflection and crack width than the control beam. The beam for serviceability evaluation was satisfied with structural serviceability limits of the deflection and crack.
In order to choose proper dispersion model and emission factors suitable in Korea in evaluating the effect of pollutants emitted by the vehicles in highway on nearby area, various road dispersion models and vehicle emission factors were reviewed. With theoretical inter-comparisons of the exiting models for line source, CALINE 3 and CALINE 4 models which were suggested by US EPA were selected as the road dispersion models for further evaluation with the measurement. The emission factors suggested by Korean Ministry of Environment was turned out to be appropriate since the classification of vehicle kinds was simple and easy to apply in Korea. The comparisons of predicted concentrations by CALINE 3 and 4 models with the measurements in flat, fill and bridge road types showed that CO and PM-10 were in good agreements with experiments and the differences between CALINE 3 and 4 models are negligible. The model concentrations of $NO_2$ by CALINE 4 were also in good agreement with the measurement but those by CALINE 3 were over-predicted. The discrepancies in CALINE 3 model were due to rapid decay reaction of $NO_2$ near the highway, which was not included in CALINE 3 model. For the road type with one & two side cutting grounds, the similar patterns as the flat & fill road type for CO, PM10, & $NO_2$ were observed but the number of data for comparison in these cases were not enough to draw the conclusion. These results lead to the conclusion that CALINE4 model is proper in road environmental impact assessment near the highway in flat, fill and bridge road types.

It is expected that the maintenance cost of domestic bridges will increase considerably due to the increase of bridge service time. In response to this situation, the government and relevant ministries are focusing on developing ways to efficiently allocate limited budgets and to rationally select maintenance bridge. In this study, to develop a risk - based bridge maintenance priority decision model, 14 common risk factors causing damage to bridges were extracted and AHP analysis was performed to select 5 important factors. Based on the existing literature review and expert consultation, we derive the evaluation criteria and the impact weights of the selected factors, and based on this, I presented risk based bridge maintenance priority model. Using this model in combination with existing maintenance priority methods will lead to more reasonable bridge maintenance priorities.
Risk-based security impact evaluation may be affected by various factors according to numerous combinations of explosive devices, cutting devices, impact vehicles, and specific attack location to consider. Presently, in planning and design phases, designers are still often uncertain of their responsibility, lack of information and training of security. Therefore, designers are still failing to exploit the potential to reduce threats on site. In this study, the concept of security impact assessment is introduced in order to derive the performing design for safety in design phase. For this purpose, a framework for security impact assessment model using risk-based approach for bridge structures is suggested. The suggested model includes of information survey, classification of terror threats, and quantitative estimation of severity and occurrence.

This investigation evaluates dynamic fracture characteristics of two alloy steels (STD-11 and STS-3) and a gray cast iron (GC-30). The dynamic fracture toughness of crack initiation and some of the dynamic fracturing characteristics were evaluated by using the instrumented Charpy impact testing procedures. It was found from experimental results for three kinds of materials that inertia force is directly proportional to impact velocity. The duration time of inertia force was found to be constant regardless of impact velocities in steel specimens.
This research was performed to evaluate physical properties of polysulfide epoxy overlay material for bridge deck as part of a review for possibility of domestic application of polymer concrete for bridge deck pavement. In order to evaluate strength characteristics, compressive strength, flexural strength and bond strength were tested, and, for durability characteristics, chloride ion penetration resistance and freeze/thaw resistance were tested along with ultraviolet rays impact evaluation. The tests showed that the results met the criteria suggested by the American Concrete Institute in terms of compressive strength, flexural strength and bond strength. However, in terms of the strengths measured at various test temperatures, it was found that the epoxy material was highly dependent on temperature, and, therefore, this should be considered at the time of domestic application of the epoxy material later. Deflection characteristics was checked through flexural strength test and it was found that bridge deck pavement using the epoxy material was excellent compared to bridge deck pavement using asphalt. Furthermore, the results of chloride ion penetration resistance test and freeze/thaw resistance test were also excellent. In the evaluation of ultraviolet rays impact on epoxy slurry mixture, reduction of strain was noticed with increased strength, but the deflection characteristics after exposure to ultraviolet rays was better than the existing acryl polymer concrete. Therefore, it is concluded from the research that the polysulfide epoxy overlay material has the physical properties that are appropriate to pavement of bridge deck.
Long bridges, such as suspension bridges and diagonal bridges, are complex phenomena that show different behaviors depending on the shape and rigidity of the cross sections, such as wind vibrations and liquid vibrations from earthquakes in liquid storage containers. This is called the lower skirt on the lower side of the bridge, and the installation of lower skirt is effective for release and vortex vibrations caused by rapid winds, and that increases the stability of the wind resistance of the bridge. Optimal shape and installation of the lower skirt is also essential to make maximum wind speed effect of the lower skirt. Therefore, this study proposes a numerical analysis method to control the vibration of a bridge by calculating the optimal installation angle of an optimal lower skirt according to the optimal control theory and this study evaluates the impact on the optimal control system by minimizing the dominance equation with an evaluation function, which is an indicator for evaluating the optimal control theory state.

This study discusses attempt of utilizing the natural frequencies to evaluate the effective stress of post-tensioned, external tendon in field. This type of structure has distinct advantage of good accessibility of tendon, which is considered to be one of essential elements in entire bridge. Six tendons in single span of PSC bridge were applied. They were excited using an impact hammer and corresponding vibrations were measured using multiple accelerometers. The stiff string model in idealized conditions was used to evaluate the effective stress in tendons.
