  • Byteflight is developed based on RS-485 communication (an international standard), and it can be used as a data bus during the operation of an integrated avionics system in the latest aircraft. Therefore, the integrated avionics system can perform an effective and safe flight mission only when the accurate and seamless display of flight information, communication, and accurate functions of navigation are implemented. In this study, cause analysis and failure investigation were performed on screen abnormalities and communication interruptions due to signal interference in the Byteflight data bus of the integrated avionics system during aircraft operation. To improve signal interference between avionics units, the branch point and wiring path of the Byteflight data bus were changed, and the verification result of the improved method was also described.

  • The tire production facility is a large-scale construction with the complexity of a manufacturing process. The process utilities should be wide-ranging as an effective arrangement of them is highly important. All the necessary information should be clarified together with the manufacturer at the basic planning stage, and this design should be developed to comply with the local culture and regulations. It is important to carry out more advanced engineering in terms of process, cost and quality, even if it is difficult to standardize due to the cultural and geographical conditions and regulations. The key point is to reflect all the given conditions and make a clear design during the design stage, to eliminate the problems after the construction has begun. Another key point is the delivery system, which must be totally managed from the initial design stage until the construction stage by proven companies. Flexibility, quick action, and single responsibility will be the fundamental features in all the steps of the project.

  • The characteristic of volumetric efficiency considering gas exchange process in a reciprocating engine is presented in this paper. The characteristic method is used for solving gas exchange problems of engine system in theoretical studies. The validity of the simulation is investigated by a comparison with the results obtained by the experiment which have been performed on the practical 4-cycle, 4-cylinder gasoline engine. The relationship between the volumetric efficiency and the intake pressure variation according to configuration of intake pipe, position of branch point, valve timing, compression ratio is clarified through simulation and experiment. The results predicted by the simulation are found to be in approximate agreement with those obtained by the experiment.

  • Since extensometers are used to determine the absolute deformation of foundation and abutments and all results are obtained in reference to the base rod, the accuracy of these results has been constantly a subject of debate. In this regard, locating and installing extensometers outside the range of effect zone is also another challenge. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate and modify extensometers results based on the mentioned issues. For this aim, the concrete RCC Zhaveh dam in Iran was selected as the case study. To study the results of extensometers installed in this dam, first, the 3DEC_DP 5.00 software was applied for numerical modeling. Parameters such as discontinuities, dead load and piezometric pressure in the interface of concrete and rock were considered. Next, using the results obtained from 6 extensometers in foundation and abutments and 4 clinometers in dam body, the numerical model was calibrated through back analysis method. The results indicate that the base rod is moved and is not recommended being used as the base point. In other words, because installation of base anchor outside the range of effect zone is not possible due to the operational and economic considerations, the obtained results are not accurate enough. The results indicate a considerable 2-3 mm displacement of the base rod (location of the base anchor) in reference to the real zero point location, which must be added to the base rod results.

  • Design verification of VHDL models is getting difficult and has become a critical and time-consuming process in hardware design. Recent]y the methods using Bayesian estimation and stopping rule have been introduced to verify behavioral models and to reduce clock cycles. This paper presents two strategies to reduce clock cycles when using stopping rule in a VHDL model verification. The first method is that a semi-random variable is defined and the data that stay in the range of semi-random variable are skipped when stopping rule is running. The second one is to keep the old values of parameters when phases of stopping rule are changed. 12 VHDL models are examined to observe the effectiveness of strategies, and the simulation results show that more than about 25% of clock cycles is reduced by using the two proposed strategies with 0.6% losses of branch coverage rate.

  • Purpose : Bony strength is dependent on bone mass and bony structure. So this study was designed to investigate the relationship between the bone mass and bony trabecular characteristics. Subjects and Methods : Study subjects were 51 females (average age 68.6 years) and 20 males (average age 66.4 years). Bone mineral density (BMD, $grams/cm^2$) of proximal femur was measured by a dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). Regions of interest (ROIs) were selected from the digitized radiographs of proximal femur. A customized computer program processed morphologic operations (MO) of ROIs. 44 skeletal variables of MO were calculated from ROIs on the Ward's triangle and greater trochanter of femur. WHO BMD classes were predicted by MO variables of the same ROI. Classification and Regression Tree analysis was used for calculating weighted kappa values, sensitivity and specificity of MO. Results : The discriminating factors of morphologic operation were branch point, branch point [per cm sq]. Age also played important role in distinguishing osteoporotic classes. The sensitivity of MO at Ward's triangle and Greater Trochanter was 91.8%, 65.6%, respectively. The specificity of MO was 100% at Ward's triangle and Greater Trochanter. Conclusion : Bony trabecular characteristics obtained using radiological bone morphometric analysis seem to be related to bone mass.

  • This paper proposes a methodology for gantry route optimization in order to maximize the productivity of a odd-type surface mount device (SMD). A odd-type SMD is a machine that uses a gantry to mount electronic components on the placement point of a printed circuit board (PCB). The gantry needs a nozzle to move its electronic components. There is a suitability between the nozzle and the electronic component, and the mounting speed varies depending on the suitability. When it is difficult for the nozzle to adsorb electronic components, nozzle exchange is performed, and nozzle exchange takes a certain amount of time. The gantry route optimization problem is divided into the mounting order on PCB and the allocation of nozzles and electronic components to the gantry. Nozzle and electronic component allocation minimized the time incurred by nozzle exchange and nozzle-to-electronic component compatibility by using an mixed integer programming method. Sequence of mounting points on PCB minimizes travel time by using the branch-and-price method. Experimental data was made by randomly picking the location of the mounting point on a PCB of 800mm in width and 800mm in length. The number of mounting points is divided into 25, 50, 75, and 100, and experiments are conducted according to the number of types of electronic components, number of nozzle types, and suitability between nozzles and electronic components, respectively. Because the experimental data are random, the calculation time is not constant, but it is confirmed that the gantry route is found within a reasonable time.

  • We have analyzed affecting factors of boiling point measurement and proposed to improve these after identifying errors of boiling point experiment in 7th grade science textbooks of 2009 revised curriculum. In the result of analyzing affecting factor of boiling point measurement for nine kinds of science textbooks, we have identified six affecting factors like as types of thermometer, heating instrument, sealing or not of stopper, position of thermometer, shape of container, and volume ratio of material and container. When performing experiment of boiling point measurement, we identified the best results when heating with a hot plate, positioning thermo sensor of MBL near neck branch after filling and sopping 10% volumes of material in round bottom flask. Based on this result, we have compared nine kinds of 7th grade science textbooks and found many errors that must be corrected in most of textbooks. Therefore it should be improved the experiment of science textbooks to enhance the understanding of students and to prevent from misconceptions for boiling point measurement.

  • This paper introduces a novel optimization technique based on gravitational search algorithm (GSA) for numerical optimization and multi-objective optimization of foundation. In the proposed method, a chaotic time varying system is applied into the position updating equation to increase the global exploration ability and accurate local exploitation of the original algorithm. The new algorithm called global-local GSA (GLGSA) is applied for optimization of some well-known mathematical benchmark functions as well as two design examples of spread foundation. In the foundation optimization, two objective functions include total cost and $CO_2$ emissions of the foundation subjected to geotechnical and structural requirements are considered. From environmental point of view, minimization of embedded $CO_2$ emissions that quantifies the total amount of carbon dioxide emissions resulting from the use of materials seems necessary to include in the design criteria. The experimental results demonstrate that, the proposed GLGSA remarkably improves the accuracy, stability and efficiency of the original algorithm.

  • Membrane clogging or fouling of the membrane caused by organic, inorganic, and biological on the surface is one of the main obstacles to achieve high flux over a long period of the membrane filtration process. So researchers have been many attempts to reduce membrane fouling and found that there is a close relationship between membrane surface hydrophilicity and membrane fouling, such that the same conditions, a greater hydrophilicity were less prone to fouling. Nanotechnology in the past decade is provided numerous opportunities to examine the effects of metal nanoparticles on the both hydrophilic and antibacterial properties of the membrane. In the present study the improvement of hydrophilic and antimicrobial properties of the membrane was evaluated by adding nanoparticles of titanium dioxide and copper oxide. For this purpose, 4% copper oxide and titanium dioxide nanoparticles with a ratio of 0, 30, 50, and 70% of copper oxide added to the polymeric membrane and compare to the pure polymeric membrane. Comparison experiments were performed on E. coli PTCC1998 in two ways disc and tube and also to evaluate membrane hydrophilic by measuring the contact angle and diameter of pores and analysis point SEM has been made. The results show that the membrane-containing nanoparticle has antibacterial properties and its impact by increasing the percentage of copper oxide nanoparticles increases.
