  • The purpose of this study was to develop a brain-based analysis framework for evaluating teachinglearning program in science. To develop the framework, this study categorized educational constructs of the teachinglearning programs into one of three teaching-learning factors: cognition, motive, and emotion, using previous studies on science program. Ninety-three articles on the brain functions associated with science program were analyzed to extract brain activation regions related to the three educational constructs. After delineating the brain activation regions, we designed the brain function map, "the CORE Brain Map." Based on this brain map, we developed a brain-based analysis framework for evaluating science teaching-learning program using R & D processes. This framework consists of the brain regions, the bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, the bilateral ventrolateral prefrontal cortex, the bilateral orbitofrontal cortex, the anterior cingulate gyrus, the bilateral parietal cortex, the bilateral temporal cortex, the bilateral occipital cortex, the bilateral hippocampus, the bilateral amygdala, the bilateral nucleus accumbens, the bilateral striatum and the midbrain regions. These brain regions are associated with the aforementioned three educational factors; cognition, motivation, and emotion. The framework could be applied to the analysis and diagnosis of various teaching and learning programs in science.

  • Histopathological analysis of biopsy specimens is still used for diagnosis and classifying the brain tumors today. The available procedures are intrusive, time consuming, and inclined to human error. To overcome these disadvantages, need of implementing a fully automated deep learning-based model to classify brain tumor into multiple classes. The proposed CNN model with an accuracy of 92.98 % for categorizing tumors into five classes such as normal tumor, glioma tumor, meningioma tumor, pituitary tumor, and metastatic tumor. Using the grid search optimization approach, all of the critical hyper parameters of suggested CNN framework were instantly assigned. Alex Net, Inception v3, Res Net -50, VGG -16, and Google - Net are all examples of cutting-edge CNN models that are compared to the suggested CNN model. Using huge, publicly available clinical datasets, satisfactory classification results were produced. Physicians and radiologists can use the suggested CNN model to confirm their first screening for brain tumor Multi-classification.

  • Construction noise is among the most critical stressors that adversely affect the quality of life of the people residing near construction sites. Many countries strictly regulate construction noise based on sound pressure levels, as well as timeslots and type of construction equipment. However, individuals react differently to noise, and their tolerance to noise levels varies, which should be considered when regulating construction noise. Although studies have attempted to analyze individuals' stress responses to construction noise, the lack of quantitative methods to measure stress has limited our understanding of individuals' stress responses to noise. Therefore, the authors proposed a quantitative stress measurement framework with a wearable electroencephalogram (EEG) sensor to decipher human brain wave patterns caused by diverse construction stressors (e.g., worksite hazards). This present study extends this framework to investigate the feasibility of using the wearable EEG sensor to measure individuals' emotional stress responses to construction noise in a laboratory setting. EEG data were collected from three subjects exposed to different construction noises (e.g., tonal vs. impulsive noises, different sound pressure levels) recorded at real construction sites. Simultaneously, the subjects' perceived stress levels against these noises were measured. The results indicate that the wearable EEG sensor can help understand diverse individuals' stress responses to nearby construction noises. This research provides a more quantitative means for measuring the impact of the noise generated at a construction site on neighboring communities, which can help frame more reasonable construction noise regulations that consider various types of residents in urban areas.

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the basic emotion theory based on the emotion-related research using functional brain imaging technology. For this purpose, a meta-analysis on the functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies was performed. Six individual emotions-joy, happiness, fear, anger, disgust, sadness-were selected. In order to collect the fMRI data of individual emotions, we searched the electronic journals such as Medline, PsychInfo, PubMed for the past 10 years. fMRI experiment data aimed at healthy subjects for 6 emotions were collected, and only studies reported in Talairach or MNI standard coordinate system were included. In order to eliminate the difference between Talairach and MNI coordinate systems, we analyzed fMRI data based on the Talairach coordinate system. A meta-analysis using GingerALE 2.3 program adopting the activation likelihood estimates (ALE) techniques was performed. In this study, we confirmed that the individual emotions are associated with consistent and distinguishable regional brain responses within the framework of the basic emotion theory. The conclusion of this study of the brain areas associated with each individual emotional reaction was substantially consistent with the results of existing review articles. Finally, the limitations of this study and some suggestions for the future research were presented.

  • Electroencephalography (EEG), a representative method of identifying temporal and spatial changes in brain activity, is a voluntary electrical activity measurable in the human scalp. Various interface technologies have been provided to control EEG activity, and it is possible to operate a machine such as a wheelchair or a robot through brainwaves. The characteristics of EEG data are collected in various types of channels in real time, and a server system for analyzing them is required to have an independent and lightweight system for the platform. In these days, the Spring platform is used as a large business server as an independent, lightweight server system. In this paper, we propose an EEG analysis system using the Spring server system. Using the proposed system, the reliability of EEG control can be enhanced, and analysis and control interface expansion can be provided in various aspects such as game and medical areas.

  • The purpose of this paper is to reaffirm the logical framework of the saju analysis method by recreating the saju model of old-law to study and organize the theories of frame in old-law Myeongri, and then by organizing and comparing the logic structure of the saju analysis method of new-law and old-law. Some believe that Myeongri Theory first appeared in the world in the Warring States Period when they were active with Gwigokja and Naknokja as origin, while others believe that it was origin that "Okjokyeong" was written by Kwak-Bak of Eastern Jin after a while. Since then, Myeongri Theory, which had been organized by Won-Cheongang and Yi-Heojung, has undergone a major transformation since reaching the Song Dynasty Seo-Japyeong. Based on this point, the Myeongri Theory of the previous generation is called the Old-law, and the subsequent theory is called the New-law. The changes in the logic structure of the old-law and the new-law leave a big difference and disconnect between those. But comparative studies have confirmed that the philosophy and logic structure due to natural laws that have not changed much such as the symbolic system of nature called Yinyang & five elements and Cheongan-jiji, the idea of a heavenly response projected in the Three Wonders of heaven, earth and human, and the concept of generation and time in the position of year-month-day-time.

  • Purpose: The use of statistical parametric mapping (SPM) program has increased for the analysis of brain PET and SPECT images. Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) coordinate is used in SPM program as a standard anatomical framework. While the most researchers look up Talairach atlas to report the localization of the activations detected in SPM program, there is significant disparity between MNI templates and Talairach atlas. That disparity between Talairach and MNI coordinates makes the interpretation of SPM result time consuming, subjective and inaccurate. The purpose of this study was to develop a program to provide objective anatomical information of each x-y-z position in ICBM coordinate. Materials and Methods: Program was designed to provide the anatomical information for the given x-y-z position in MNI coordinate based on the Statistical Probabilistic Anatomical Map (SPAM) images of ICBM. When x-y-z position was given to the program, names of the anatomical structures with non-zero probability and the probabilities that the given position belongs to the structures were tabulated. The program was coded using IDL and JAVA language for 4he easy transplantation to any operating system or platform. Utility of this program was shown by comparing the results of this program to those of SPM program. Preliminary validation study was peformed by applying this program to the analysis of PET brain activation study of human memory in which the anatomical information on the activated areas are previously known. Results: Real time retrieval of probabilistic information with 1 mm spatial resolution was archived using the programs. Validation study showed the relevance of this program: probability that the activated area for memory belonged to hippocampal formation was more than 80%. Conclusion: These programs will be useful for the result interpretation of the image analysis peformed on MNI coordinate, as done in SPM program.
