A Study on the Characteristics of SM570TMC Plates in Compression Members (SM570TMC 강재의 압축재 특성에 관한 연구)

  • There is a great need for high-strength steel especially for the high-rise steel building structure. High-strength steels, however, may have mechanical properties that are significantly different from those of the conventional steels. The application of high-strength steels to building structures should be reviewed as to whether the inelastic behavior equivalent to that of conventional steels can be attained or not. In this study, SM570TMC steel was tested to evaluate buckling strength under axial compressive force. The comparison tests for local buckling strength evaluation of box-type and H-shaped welded columns were performed with variable width-thickness ratios. As for the experimental check, the maximum strength of stub column was determined by local buckling as far as the limit of width-to-thickness ratio was satisfied with current design codes. Also, the strength of the stub column did not decrease suddenly by local buckling before maximum strength even when the ratio is not satisfied. The buckling strength of SM570TMC steel was higher than both ASD (Allowable Stress Design) and LRFD (Load and Resistance Factor Design) specifications.

A Study on the Behavior of Reinforced Clay Subjected to Direct Shear (직접전단을 받는 보강점토의 거동에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, a reinforced clay model based on the limit equilibrium of forces under direct shear was proposed to predict shear strength increase in clays induced by the steel inclusion. The model accounted for the effects of orientation of inclusion, length, bonding stress between clay and indclusion and passive soil resistance 1 induced by the inclusion movement, on the behavior of reinforced clays. In order to compare with the theoretical predictions, direct shear tests were performed using a direct shear apparatus formed of an open shear box. Also pull-out tests were conducted to determine the bonding stress between the inclusion and clay. From the experimental results, the increase or decrease in shear strength of reinforced clay samples was found to depend on the orientation of inclusionas well as water content of clay samples. From the comparison of theoretical predictions and experimental results, it was found that the theore tical model predicted reasonably well the influence of orientation of the inclusion as well as passive soil resistance induced by the inclusion movement on the mechanical behavior of reinforced clays.

Efficacy of Starch and PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) for the Suppression of Soil Dust Emissions from Large-scale Construction Sites in Urban Areas (도심 대형사업장의 토양 입자 비산 억제를 위한 Starch와 PVA(polyvinyl alcohol)의 효율성 평가)

  • Soil dust emitted from large scale construction sites in urban areas has posed a significant health threats to local residents by exacerbating air quality. Water-spraying (moistening) is commonly practiced to lower the dust emission in construction sites, but its long term effectiveness is highly questionable. In this study, the utility of starch and PVA(polyvinyl alcohol) was investigated in suppression of the soil dust emissions in construction sites in Seoul areas. The efficiency of the two suppressants was tested with test soil sample in a lab-scale wind tunnel box under different concentrations of suppressants and soil textures. Starch and PVA showed the superior ability to suppress soil dust emission as compared to moistening, resulting in PM10 and PM2.5 lower than the daily limit values of 30 and 15 ㎍/㎥ respectively. PVA showed higher suppression capability than starch for all conditions. The test soils mixed with suppressants also showed dramatically enhanced aggregate stability compared to the non-treated soil.

  • Digital speedometer which is supposed to provide the basic data for analyzing human factors of drivers has a limitation for human behavior studies of drivers, because it records limited driving information including GPS velocities. Besides, Black Box, which is currently being actively commercialized in the market, records mostly vehicles' risky patterns rather than drivers' behaviors. As a result, it also shows a limit to analyze dangerous driving patterns. This study performed a risky driving study for human factor analysis. This study conducted before and after comparisons for real time warning study using a risky driving judgment device. The analysis was conducted based on Longitudinal acceleration, Lateral acceleration, and Yaw rate of vehicles.

  • In the present study, Loop scheme is applied to generate smooth surfaces. To be consistent with the limit points of target surface, the initial sampling points are properly rearranged. The pointwise errors of curvature and position in the sequence of subdivision process are evaluated in the Loop subdivision scheme. A first-order shear deformable Loop subdivision triangular element which can handle transverse shear deformation of moderately thick shell are developed. The developed element is more general than the previous one based on classical shell theory, since the new one includes the effect of transverse shear deformation and has standard six degrees of freedom per node. The quartic box spline function is used as interpolation basis function. Numerical examples for the benchmark static shell problems are analyzed to assess the performance of the developed subdivision shell element and locking trouble.

  • Self-compacting concretes (SCC) are highly fluid concrete which can flow without any vibration. Their composition requires a large quantity of fines to limit the risk of bleeding and segregation. The use of crushed sand rich in limestone fines could be an adequate solution for both economic and environmental reasons. This paper investigates the influence of quarry limestone fines from manufactured crushed sand on rheological, mechanical and durability properties of SCC. For this purpose, five mixtures of SCC with different limestone fines content as substitution of crushed sand (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20%) were prepared at constant water-to-cement ratio of 0.40 and $490kg/m^3$ of cement content. Fresh SCC mixtures were tested by slump flow test, V-funnel flow time test, L-box height ratio, segregation resistance and rheological test using a rheometer. Compressive and flexural strengths of SCC mixtures were evaluated at 28 days. Regarding durability properties, total porosity, capillary water absorption and chloride-ion migration were studied at 180 days. For the two test modes in fresh state, the results indicated compatibility between slump flow/yield stress (${\tau}_0$) and V-funnel flow time/plastic viscosity (${\mu}$). Increasing the substitution level of limestone fines in SCC mixtures, contributes to the decrease of the slump flow and the yield stress. All SCC mixtures investigated achieved adequate filling, adequate passing ability and exhibit no segregation. Moreover, the inclusion of limestone fines as crushed sand substitution reduces the capillary water absorption, chloride-ion migration and consequently enhances the durability performance.

A Dilute-and-Shoot LC-MS/MS Method for Screening of 43 Cardiovascular Drugs in Human Urine

  • A simple, specific, and economical LC-MS/MS method was investigated for the screening of 43 prescribed antihypertensive and related drugs in human urine. The urine samples were simply prepared by diluting and mixing with internal standard before directly introduced to the LC-MS/MS system, which is fast, straightforward, and cost-effective. Fractional factorial, Box-Behnken, and I-optimal design were applied to screen and optimize the mass spectrometric and chromatographic factors. The analysis was carried out on a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer system utilizing multiple reaction monitoring with positive and negative electrospray ionization method. Chromatographic separation was performed on a Thermo Scientific Accucore RP-MS column (50 × 3.0 mm ID., 2.6 ㎛) using two separate gradient elution programs established with the same mobile phases. Chromatographic separation was performed within 12 min. The optimal method was validated based on FDA guideline. The results indicated that the assay was specific, reproducible, and sensitive with the limit of detection from 0.1 to 50.0 ㎍/L. The method was linear for all analytes with coefficient of determination ranging from 0.9870 to 0.9981. The intra-assay precision was from 1.44 to 19.87% and the inter-assay precision was between 2.69 and 18.54% with the recovery rate ranges from 84.54 to 119.78% for all drugs measured. All analytes in urine samples were stable for 24 h at 25℃, and for 2 weeks at -60℃. The developed method improves on currently existing methods by including larger number of cardiovascular medications and better sensitivity of 12 analytes.

  • There have been various forms of systems such as a digital speedometer or a black box etc. to meet the social requirement for reducing traffic accidents and safe driving. However that systems are based on after-accident vehicle data, there is limit to prevent the accident before. So in our previous research, by storing, analyzing the Vehicle-dynamic information coming from driver's behavior, we are developing the decision-device which could provide driver with Alerting-Information in real-time to enhance the driver's safety drive. but the performance valuation is not yet executed. Finally, this study developed positional recognition system by using the DGPS for pre-developed risky driving decision device. The result of test analyzed with the same that the aggregated vehicle dynamics data in DGPS and dangerous risky driving decision device. If the performance of risky driving decision device is verified by precisely positional recognition system, the risky driving management of vehicle would be effected.

Study on the Combination of In-situ Chemical Oxidation Method by using Hydrogen Peroxide with the Air-sparging Method for Diesel Contaminated Soil and Groundwater (과산화수소를 이용한 현장원위치 화학적 산화법과 공기분사법(Air-sparging)을 연계한 디젤 오염 토양/지하수 동시 정화 실내 실험 연구)

  • Laboratory scale experiments were performed to investigate the removal efficiency of the in-situ chemical oxidation method and the air-sparging method for diesel contaminated soil and groundwater. Two kinds of diesel contaminated soils (TPH concentration : 2,401 mg/kg and 9,551 mg/kg) and groundwater sampled at Busan railroad station were used for the experiments. For batch experiments of chemical oxidation by using 50% hydrogen peroxide solution, TPH concentration of soil decreased to 18% and 15% of initial TPH concentration. For continuous column experiments, more than 70% of initial TPH in soil was removed by using soil flushing with 20% hydrogen peroxide solution, suggesting that most of diesel in soil reacted with hydrogen peroxide and degraded into $CO_2$ or $H_2O$ gases. Batch experiment for the air-sparging method with artificially contaminated groundwater (TPH concentration : 810 mg/L) was performed to evaluate the removal efficiency of the air-sparging method and TPH concentration of groundwater decreased to lower than 5 mg/L (waste water discharge tolerance limit) within 72 hours of air-sparging. For box experiment with diesel contaminated real soil and groundwater, the removal efficiency of air-sparging was very low because of the residual diesel phase existed in soil medium, suggesting that the air-sparging method should be applied to remediate groundwater after the free phase of diesel in soil medium was removed. For the last time, the in-situ box experiment for a unit process mixed the chemical oxidation process with the air-sparging process was performed to remove diesel from soil and groundwater at a time. Soil flushing with 20% hydrogen peroxide solution was applied to diesel contaminated soils in box, and subsequently contaminated groundwater was purified by the air-sparging method. With 23 L of 20% hydrogen peroxide solution and 2,160 L of air-sparging, TPH concentration of soil decreased from 9,551 mg/kg to 390 mg/kg and TPH concentration of groundwater reduced to lower than 5 mg/L. Results suggested that the combination process of the in-situ hydrogen peroxide flushing and the air-sparging has a great possibility to simultaneously remediate fuel contaminated soil and groundwater.

DIFFERENCE IN BOND STRENGTH ACCORDING TO FILLING TECHNIQUES AND CAVITY WALLS IN BOX-TYPE OCCLUSAL COMPOSITE RESIN RESTORATION (박스 형태의 복합레진 수복시 충전법 및 와동벽에 따른 결합력 차이에 관한 연구)

  • Bond strength depends on characteristics of bonding surface and restorative technique. The majority of studies dealing with dentin bond strength were carried out on flat bonding surface, therefore, difference of bond strength between axial wall and pulpal wall is not clear yet. This study evaluated bonding difference between cavity walls in class I composite resin restoration with different filling techniques. Twenty extracted caries-free human third molars were used. Cavities were prepared in 6 ${\times}$4 ${\times}$3 mm box-type and divided into four groups according to filling technique and bonding surface: Group I; bulk filling - pulpal wall, Group II; bulk filling - axial wall, Group III; incremental filling - pulpal wall, Group IV; incremental filling - axial wall. Cavities were filled with Filtek $Z250^{(R)}$(3M/ESPE., USA) and Clearfill SE $bond^{(R)}$(Kuraray, Japan). After 24 hour-storage in $37^{\circ}C$water, the resin bonded teeth were sectioned bucco-lingualy at the center of cavity. Specimens were vertically sectioned into 1.0 ${\times}$1.0 mm thick serial sticks perpendicular to the bond surface using a low-speed diamond saw (Accutom 50, Struers, Copenhagen, Denmark) under water cooling. The trimmed specimens were then attached to the testing device and in turn, was placed in a universal testing machine (EZ test, Shimadzu Co., Kyoto, Japan) for micro-tensile testing at a cross-head speed of 1 mm/min. The results obtained were statistically analyzed using 2-way ANOVA and t-test at a significance level of 95%. The results were as follows: 1. There was no significant difference between bulk filling and incremental filling. 2. There was no significant difference between pulpal wall and axial wall, either. Within the limit of this study, it was concluded that microtensile bond strength was not affected by the filling technique and the site of cavity walls.
