Green tides that developed along the coast of China in 2015 were detected and tracked using vegetation indices from GOCI and Landsat images. Green tides first appeared near the Jiangsu Province on May 14 before increasing in size and number and moving northward to the Shandong Peninsula in mid-June. Typhoon Cham-hom passed through the Yellow Sea on July 12, significantly decreasing the algal population. An algae patch moved east toward Korea and on June 18 and July 4, several masses were found between the southwestern shores of Korea and Jeju Island. The floating masses found in Korean waters were concentrated at the boundary of the open sea and the Jindo cold pool, a phenomenon also observed at the boundary of coastal and offshore waters in China. Sea surface temperatures, derived from NOAA SST data, were found to play a role in generation of the green tides.

The phase field model is becoming the model of choice for the theoretical study of the morphologies of crystals growth from the melt. This model provides an alternative approach to the solution of the classical (sharp interface) model of solidification by introducing a new variable, the phase field, Ø, to identify the phase. The variable Ø takes on constant values in the bulk phases and makes a continuous transition between these values over a thin transition layer that plays the role of the classically sharp interface. This results in Ø being governed by a new partial differential equation(in addition to the PDE's that govern the classical fields, such as temperature and composition) that guarantees (in the asymptotic limit of a suitably thin transition layer) that the appropriate boundary conditions at the crystal-melt interface are satisfied. Thus, one can proceed to solve coupled PDE's without the necessity of explicitly tracking the interface (free boundary) that would be necessary to solve the classical (sharp interface) model. Recent advances in supercomputing and algorithms now enable generation of interesting and valuable results that display most of the fundamental solidification phenomena and processes that are observed experimentally. These include morphological instability, solute trapping, cellular growth, dendritic growth (with anisotropic sidebranching, tip splitting, and coupling to periodic forcing), coarsening, recalescence, eutectic growth, faceting, and texture development. This talk will focus on the fundamental basis of the phase field model in terms of irreversible thermodynamics as well as it computational limitations and prognosis for future improvement. ABS is a safety device, which adds hydraulic system to the existing brake system to prevent wheel from locking, so we can obtain maximum braking force on driving. The hydraulic system to control braking pressure consists of sol-flow type using solenoid valve, flow control valve or consists of sol-sol type using two solenoid valve. In this paper, the hydraulic system in ABS is composed of sol type using a 3port-2position solenoid valve, and vehicle system is composed of 1/4 vehicle model. And slip ratio is controlled using PWM (Pulse-Width-Modulation) control algorithm. Braking friction coefficient and tracking friction coefficient which are described by slip ratio's function have maximum value when slip ratio has its value from 0.1 to 0.3. And slip ratio is controlled constantly in this boundary value even in the variation of road's condition in some boundary.

This paper propose a method to trace a moving object based on the information directly obtained from MPEG-2 compressed video stream without decoding process. In the proposed method, the motion flow is constructed from the motion vectors involved in compressed video and then we calculate the amount of pan, tilt, zoom associated with camera operations using generalized Hough transform. The local object motion can be extracted from the motion flow after the compensation with the parameters related to the global camera motion. The moving object is designated initially by a user via bounding box. After then automatic tracking is performed based on the mean-shift algorithm of the motion flows of the object. The proposed method can improve the computation speed because the information is directly obtained from the MPEG-2 compressed video, but the object boundary is limited by blocks rather than pixels.
The conventional numerical models to analyze flow in subsurface porous media under the transient state usually generate numerical oscillation and unstability due to local flux domain for critical cases such as infiltration into initially dry soil during rainfall period. In this case, it is required refined mesh and small time step, but it decrease efficiency of computation. In this study, numerical unstability in discontinuity domain is removed by applying particle tracking algorithm to simulate unsteady subsurface flow with inflow boundary condition. Finally the hybrid LE FEM improving numerical stability is proposed. The hypothetical domains with unsteady uniform and nonuniform flow field were used to demonstrated algorithm verification. In comparison with analytic solution, we obtained reasonable results and conducted simulation of hypothetical 3-D recharge/pumping area. The proposed algorithm can simulate saturated/unsaturated porous media with more practical problems and will greatly contribute to accuracy and stability of numerical computation.
Cell counting is extensively used to analyze cell growth in biomedical research, and as a result automated cell counting methods have been developed to provide a more convenient and means to analyze cell growth. However, there are still many challenges to improving the accuracy of the cell counting for cells that proliferate abnormally, divide rapidly, and cluster easily, such as cancer cells. In this paper, we present an automated cell counting method for HeLa cells, which are used as reference for cancer research. We recognize and classify the morphological conditions of the cells by using a cell segmentation algorithm based on cell membrane extraction, and we then apply a cell back-tracking algorithm to improve the cell counting accuracy in cell clusters that have indistinct cell boundary lines. The experimental results indicate that our proposed segmentation method can identify each of the cells more accurately when compared to existing methods and, consequently, can improve the cell counting accuracy.
The dynamic change of background and moving objects is an important factor which causes the problem of occlusion in tracking moving objects. The tracking accuracy is also remarkably decreased in the presence of occlusion. We therefore propose an active fusion model which is robust against partial occlusions that are occurred by background and other objects. The active fusion model is consisted of contour-based md region-based snake. The former is a conventional snake model using contour features of a moving object and the latter is a regional snake model which considers region features inside its boundary. First, this model classifies total occlusion into contour and region occlusion. And then it adjusts the confidence of each model based on calculating the location and amount of occlusion, so it can overcome the problem of occlusion. Experimental results show that the proposed method can successfully track a moving object but the previous methods fail to track it under partial occlusion.

This paper presents a vision based walking robot control system using hand shape recognition. To recognize hand shapes, the accurate hand boundary needs to be tracked in image obtained from moving camera. For this, we use an active contour model-based tracking approach with mean shift which reduces dependency of the active contour model to location of initial curve. The proposed system is composed of four modules: a hand detector, a hand tracker, a hand shape recognizer and a robot controller. The hand detector detects a skin color region, which has a specific shape, as hand in an image. Then, the hand tracking is performed using an active contour model with mean shift. Thereafter the hand shape recognition is performed using Hue moments. To assess the validity of the proposed system we tested the proposed system to a walking robot, RCB-1. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed system.

Numerical simulation of fluid flow with moving free surface has been carried out. For the free surface flow, a VOF(Volume of Fluid)-based algorithm utilizing a fixed grid system has been investigated. In order to reduce numerical smearing at the free surface represented on a fixed grid system, a new free surface tracking algorithm based on the donor-acceptor scheme has been presented. Novel features of the proposed algorithm are characterized as two numerical tools; the orientation vector to represent the free surface orientation in each cell and the baby-cell to determine the fluid volume flux at each cell boundary. The proposed algorithm can be easily implemented in any irregular non-uniform grid systems that are usual in finite element method (FEM). Moreover, the proposed algorithm can be extended and applied to the 3-D free surface flow problem without additional efforts. For computation of unsteady incompressible flow, a finite element approximation based on the explicit fractional step method has been adopted. In addition, the SUPG(streamline upwind/Petrov-Galerkin) method has been implemented to deal with convection dominated flows. Combination of the proposed free surface tracking scheme and explicit fractional step formulation resulted in an efficient solution algorithm. Validity of the present solution algorithm was demonstrated from its application to the broken dam and the solitary wave propagation problems.

In object tracking using the block mating algorithm, it is not proper to use a fixed matching block to track an object of which size may be various and can be changed at any time. This paper defines an adaptive matching block for the dynamic environment and proposes a block matching algorithm for it. The matching block is composed of a main-block of $10{\times}10$ pixels and 8 sub-blocks of $6{\times}6$ pixels in a wide area of $42{\times}42$ pixels, the main-block located its center is used as an object block, and the sub-blocks located its boundary are used as candidates for the object block. The proposed algorithm extracts the object blocks from the sub-blocks by using their motion vectors for 10 previous frames and performs the block matching with the main block and them. The experiments for perform estimation show that the proposed algorithm extracts just valid object blocks from the matching block and keeps an object having free movement in image center area.
