Jeju Island is composed of irregular volcanic rock layers formed by several volcanic activities. Since structure such as the offshore wind turbine has to support considerably large over turning moment due to long distance from foundation to load point and relatively large horizontal load. Pile foundations are needed to economically support such structure even in the case of rock layer. Therefore, in this study, mechanical performances are estimated by mixing ratio of water, cement, and sand to figure out optimal mixing ration of filling material for pile penetrated to rocky layers, and outcomes of this study are compared and analyzed with results of other researches. In the same conditions, mechanical performances of the mortar (S/(S+C)=20~40%) are better than those of cement paste and soil cement. On the basis of major outcome of this study, appropriate range of mixing and a strengthening model are suggested.

This study analyzed the cases of cracks in piles due to the use of followers under construction conditions where water exists inside the piles, and confirmed whether the piles were cracked through a field test simulating the construction conditions in which water pressure inside the piles was generated by a hammer. According to the construction case, under the construction condition where the pile length is 20% to 30% shorter than the drilled length, about 80% cracks occur, so there is a high possibility of cracking due to water inside the pile. A field test was conducted to confirm the type of pile failure due to hammer under the construction condition in which water exists inside the pile. The pile head was not destroyed by the compressive load, and one or more longitudinal cracks occurred along the PC steel wire. The closed end pile generates water pressure by hammer. the follower and cushion(compression plywood) must be drilled at least 0.4D. It is expected that improved quality control will be possible as the water pressure inside the pile is reduced.

Though there has been increasing use of large diameter drilled shaft as a foundation structure of bridges, current practice for quality control is to confirm the minimum required load carrying capacity during construction stage. For economic and appropriate design of drilled shaft, it is necessary to evaluate the load transfer mechanism by pile load tests during initial stage of construction and to use the test results as a feedback to a revision of initial design. In this paper, results of load tests peformed at several domestic sites are presented to investigate the load transfer characteristics of large diameter drilled shaft. It was found that most of the load on piles is sustained by shaft friction and that only small portion of the load reaches the bottom of the drilled shaft. Some test results of drilled shaft by Pile Driving Analyzer performed at same sites are also presented to compare the load transfer characteristics interpreted from static pile load tests.

In this study, the pile filling materials of the pile in drilled piling was studied. cement milk is mostly used as the filling materials of bored pile. The use of filling material based on cement milk is inefficient at field construction because it needs a lot of the charging mass. thickening agent was added to the cement milk to perform settlement estimation experiment on a circular cylinder, and as a result of examining the compressive strength of the day, it was found that the settlement estimation was significantly reduced. However, the strength was relatively low, it was confirmed that there was no problem with the regulation because the main surface fixative required relatively low strength.

A row of bored piles has been used in several excavation works to retain the earth. This excavation bracing system has much effect on low-vibration and low-noise during construction. The system is also effective to provide protection to the adjacent existing ground and structures. For the purpose of establishment of a logical design method for the bored piles, first, a theoretical equation to estimate the resistance of piles is derived. Because arching action of soils between piles is considered in the equation, the characteristics of soils and the installation condition of piles would be considered logically from the beginning. Then a method is investigated to decide the interval ratio of piles. According to the method, the interval between piles can be decided from the information of the Peck's stability number, the coefficient of lateral earth pressure and the internal friction angle of soil. Finally, a design method is presented for the bored piles used for excavation work. In the presented design method, such factors as depth of excavation, pile diameter, interval between piles, pile length below bottom of excavation and pile stiffness, can be selected systematically.

The trend of current urban redevelopment and new city development project shows that the superstructure of building is getting larger and higher in consequence of a limited plottage condition and the preference of landmark. For this reason, it is definitely required to extend pile diameter and install the pilein deep foundation to support superstructure. The pile method causes construction-related problems such as increasing quantities, difficulty of storage & transportation material and decreasing design load while construct pile in deep foundation. The Bored Pile method has applied to minimize those problems. As above shown, this article will be presented construction case study of Barrette Pile and R.C.D in order to make a counterproposal for the quality control of a large building foundation work.

The design and construction of strutted and anchored sheet pile walls in soft clay are reviewed based on experience gained mainly in Singapore during the last 10years where mainly strutted sheet pile walls diaphragm walls, and contiguous bored piles are used. It is important to consider in the design the high lateral earth pressures acting on the sheet piles below the bottom of the excavation when the depth of the excavation is large compared with the shear strength of the clay. The strut loads and the maximum bending moment in the sheet piles can in that case be much higher than indicated by a conventional analysis. Different methods to increase the stability have been investigated. With jet grouting, embankment piles and excavation under water it is possible to reduce significantly the maximum bending moment, the strut loads, and the settlements outside the excavated area as well as the heave within the excavation.
This study proposes and demonstrates a smart monitoring system that uses transmission lines embedded in a reinforced concrete structure to detect the presence of defects through changes in the electromagnetic waves generated and measured by a time-domain reflectometer. Laboratory experiments were first conducted to identify the presence of voids in steel-concrete composite columns. The results indicated that voids in the concrete caused a positive signal reflection, and the amplitude of this signal decreased as the water content of the soil in the void increased. Multiple voids resulted in a decrease in the amplitude of the signal reflected at each void, effectively identifying their presence despite amplitude reduction. Furthermore, the electromagnetic wave velocity increased when voids were present, decreased as the water content of the soil in the voids increased, and increased with the water-cement ratio and curing time. Field experiments were then conducted using bored piles with on-center (sound) and off-center (defective) steel-reinforcement cage alignments. The results indicated that the signal amplitude in the defective pile section, where the off-center cage was poorly covered with concrete, was greater than that in the pile sections where the cage was completely covered with concrete. The crosshole sonic logging results for the same defective bored pile failed to identify an off-center cage alignment defect. Therefore, this study demonstrates that electromagnetic waves can be a useful tool for monitoring the health and integrity of reinforced concrete structures.
In Europe and the United States, the use of limit states design has almost been established for pile foundation design. According to the global trend, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs has established the basic design criteria of the bridge under the limit state design method. However, it is difficult to reflect on the design right now because of lack of research on resistance coefficient of the pile method and ground condition. In this study, to obtain the resistance coefficient of PHC bored pile which is widely used in Korea, the bearing capacity calculated by the LH design standard and the bridge design standard method, the static load test(21 times) and the dynamic load test(EOID 21 times, Restrike 21) The reliability analysis was performed on the results. The analysis of the resistance coefficient of PHC bored pile by loading test was analyzed by adding more than two times data. As a result, the resistance coefficient obtained from the static load test(ultimate bearing capacity) was 0.64 ~ 0.83 according to the design formula and the target reliability index, and the resistance coefficient obtained from the dynamic load test(ultimate bearing capacity) was 0.42~0.55. Respectively. The resistance coefficient obtained from the modified bearing capacity of dynamic load test(EOID's ultimate end bearing capacity + restrike's ultimate skin bearing capacity) was 0.55~0.71, which was reduced to about 14% when compared with the resistance coefficient obtained by the static load test(ultimate bearing capacity). As a result of the addition of the data, the resistivity coefficient was not changed significantly, even if the data were increased more than 2 times by the same value or 0.04 as the previous resistance coefficient. In conclusion, the overall resistance coefficient calculated by the static load test and dynamic load tests in this study is larger than the resistance coefficient of 0.3 suggested by the bridge design standard(2015).
In this study, it was analyzed the cases of bored PHC piles designed for the building foundations. The overall length of the piles varies within a maximum of 35 m. However, the average length was 17.0 to 18.9 m depending on the kind of the bedrock, with no significant difference. The socket length entered into the bedrock was designed with approximately 58% of the whole piles being 1m, the minimum length of the specification, and up to 5m. Although the range in design efficiency was very large, on average it was about 70%, consistent with the usual known extent. Applications with low design efficiency were mainly shown on the foundation of low-rise buildings or rides with low design load. On the weathered rock, the design load, which governs the design result was widely distributed at 65 to 97% of allowable bearing capacity of ground. The ratio of allowable axial load of piles to allowable bearing capacity of ground is also widely distributed between 36 and 115%, so optimization efforts are required along with design efficiency. On the other hand, the allowable bearing capacity on the soft or hard rock was highly equal, mostly within 90% of the allowable axial load of piles. In the design, the end bearing resistance averaged over 75% of the allowable bearing capacity. However, the results of the dynamic pile load test show that the end bearing resistance was predominant under the E.O.I.D conditions, and in some cases, the end bearing resistance was at least 25% under the restrike conditions.
