  • This study aims to empirically examine the effect of foreign direct investment (FDI) and corruption on the development of public-service sectors in 10 ASEAN countries. It then investigates whether this relationship is different between two FDI compositions including greenfield FDI and FDI in the form of cross-border merger and acquisitions (M&As). Using a panel database of 10 ASEAN countries during the period 1996-2015 from various sources including the World Development Indicators of the World Bank and UNCTAD, we first find that FDI strongly and positively contributes to the development of the public-service sectors in the recipient nations, except for the electricity sector. However, we show that this relationship is dependent on the type of FDI modes of entry. Specifically, while greenfield investment exerts a beneficial influence on the development of telecommunication and transportation sectors, cross-border M&A has no effect on these sectors, perhaps because of the distinct differences among three public service sectors. Finally, we found that in a highly corrupt environment, aggregate FDI might have no influence on all three public-service sectors, possibly because the two contradictory influences of the interaction terms between corruption and two FDI sub-types seem to cancel each other out.

  • By the gravimetric method at atmospheric pressure, the solubility of two α-amino acids was resolved over temperatures from (293.15 to 323.15) K. The α-amino acids studied were L-arginine and L-histidine. Results showed a salting-out effect on the solubility of the tested amino compounds. It is obvious that there was an increase in the solubility, in aqueous chloride solutions, with the increasing temperature. Results were translated regarding the salt hydration shells and the ability of the solute to form hydrogen-bond with water. The solubility data was precisely associated with a semi-empirical equation. The standard molar Gibbs free energies of transfer of selected α-amino compounds (ΔtrGo) from pure water to aqueous solutions of the chloride salts have been calculated from the solubility data. The decrease in solubility is correlated to the positive (ΔtrGo) value which is most part of the enthalpic origin.

  • A seam-line determination algorithm is proposed to determine image border-line in mosaicing using the transformation of gray value differences and dynamic programming. Since visually good border-line is the one along which pixel differences are as small as possible, it can be determined in association with an optimal path finding algorithm. A well-known effective optimal path finding algorithm is the Dynamic Programming (DP). Direct application of the dynamic programming to the seam-line determination causes the distance effect, in which seam-line is affected by its length as well as the gray value difference. In this paper, an adaptive cost transform algorithm with which the distance effect is suppressed is proposed in order to utilize the dynamic programming on the transformed pixel difference space. Also, a figure of merit which is the summation of fixed number of the biggest pixel difference on the seam-line (SFBPD) is suggested as an evaluation measure of seamlines. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been tested in both quantitively and visually on various kinds of images.

  • The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of oil prices on economic growth and exchange rate in Saudi Arabia during the period 1980-2020. For this purpose, the linear and nonlinear ARDL models are estimated. The linear ARDL model shows that the oil price and economic growth are cointegrated. Moreover, the two variables have a significant positive association in the long run. However, the oil price has no significant impact on the exchange rate. When estimating the nonlinear ARDL model, it has been shown that oil price is only cointegrated with economic growth but not with the exchange rate. The estimation of nonlinear effects using the nonlinear ARDL model shows that economic growth is affected by both positive and negative oil shocks in the long run. However, the impact of positive shocks is higher than those of negative shocks. Moreover, results show that the short-run effects of positive and negative oil shocks are not statistically significant. Regarding the exchange rate, our results show that the effects of positive and negative oil shocks are not statistically significant. Consequently, this study concludes that the oil price has an asymmetric effect on economic growth in Saudi Arabia, but not on the exchange rate.

  • In this study, LCA based on EU PAS 2050 and Product Category Rules (PCR) was conducted for steel products with the highest proportion of Korea's exports to the EU among the carbon border adjustment items that were passed by the EU Parliament in June and applied to imports from 2025. Carbon emissions were calculated by (ISO 14040) analysis. As a result of the analysis, the total emission is 394,000 tons, and when converted to the EU ETS weekly price, it is 39,000.000 euros, which is about 5% of the export amount of 734 million dollars. This is the same effect as a 5% tariff increase. This study applies international standards in calculating the carbon footprint and provides information that is closest to the expected amount to be imposed in the future EU CBAM, providing the effect of enabling exporters to establish trade strategies and international competitiveness measures in advance.

  • We evaluated two herbal plants, basil (Ocimum basilicum) and lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), for their potential as repellent plants in the management of striped flea beetle (Phyllotreta striolata), in organic production of chinese cabbage. It was confirmed that striped flea beetle avoided these two herbal plants in olfactometer experiment. We conducted field experiment in which the suppressive effect of the two selected herbal plants and cruciferous crops preferred by striped flea beetle were evaluated through cultivating as inter crops and border crops, respectively. In inter-cropping experiment, unlike in vitro test, the density of striped flea beetle was low in basil- or mustard-intercropping cultivation plot, but high in lemon balm-intercropping cultivation plot. In border cropping experiment, the density of striped flea beetle on chinese cabbage in lemon balm or basil cultivation plot were approximately zero. As a result of this study, we think that border cropping of lemon balm or basil can be used to reduce preventively striped flea beetle of chinese cabbage under organic farming system.

  • The aim of the study was to assess the influence of insertion torque of bone quality and to compare axial force, moment and von Mises stress using finite element analysis of plastoelastic property for bone stress and strain by dividing bone quality to its thickness of cortical bone, density of trabecular bone and existence of lower cortical bone when implant inserted to mandibular premolar region. The $Br{\aa}nemark$ MKIII. RP implant and cylindrical bone finite model were designed as cortical bone at upper border and trabecular bone below the cortical bone. 7 models were made according to thickness of cortical bone, density of trabecular bone and bicortical anchorage and von Mises stress, axial force and moment were compared by running time. Dividing the insertion time, it seemed 300msec that inferior border of implant flange impinged the upper border of bone, 550msec that implant flange placed in middle of upper border and 800msec that superior border of implant flange was at the same level as bone surface. The maximum axial force peak was at about 500msec, and maximum moment peak was at about 800msec. The correlation of von Mises stress distribution was seen at both peak level. The following findings were appeared by the study which compared the axial force by its each area. The axial force was measured highest when $Br{\aa}nemark$ MKIII implant flange inserts the cortical bone. And maximal moment was measured highest after axial force suddenly decreased when the flange impinged at upper border and the concentration of von Mises stress distribution was at the same site. When implant was placed, the axial force and moment was measured high as the cortical bone got thicker and the force concentrated at the cortical bone site. The influence of density in trabecular bone to axial force was less when cortical bone was 1.5 mm thick but it might be more affected when the thickness was 0.5 mm. The total axial force with bicortical anchorage, was similar when upper border thickness was the same. But at the lower border the axial force of bicortical model was higher than that of monocortical model. Within the limitation of this FEA study, the insertion torque was most affected by the thickness of cortical bone when it was placed the $Br{\aa}nemark$ MKIII implant in premolar region of mandible.

  • This study was investigated to compare the bond strength of polysulfide adhesive between tray resin and border molding materials and to evaluate the effect of saliva contamination on them. We made the 135 resin tray secimens with a dimension of $1{\times}1{\times}1cm$ and divided them into 3 groups by the materials 1) Quicky group, 2) Compound group, and 3) Impregum group Each group was subdivided by saliva contimination. Group S1 : applied adhesive without saliva contamination Group S2 : applied adhesive after drying 15seconds after saliva contamination Group S3 : applied adhesive no after saliva contamination. Tensile tests were performed with a Universal Load testing machine. Results showed Impregum group significantly higher bond strength than Quicky group, but there was no significant difference in adhesive bond strength between Compound group and Quicky group in experimental group by materials In experimental group by saliva contamination, S1 group is significantly higher bond strength than S2 group and S2 group is significantly higher bond strength than S3 group in Quicky group and S1, S2 group is significantly higher bond strength than S3 group in Compound group and Impregum group. Impression compound and Impregum F which are usually used as an individual tray border mold-ing material can be said to be satisfied in adhesive bond strength to polysulfide impression materials. After try-in and clinical adjustment are performed, a custom tray should be properly rinsed and air dried before tray adhesive was placed.

  • Purpose : To evaluate the differences in bone height, bone width, and visibility of posterior spiral tomographic images according to various exposure directions, image layer thickness, and inclination of the mandibular inferior border. Materials and Methods: Six partially and completely edentulous dry mandibles were radiographed using Scanora spiral tomography. Spiral tomography was performed at different exposure directions (dentotangential and maxillotangential projection), image layer thicknesses (2 mm, 4 mm and 8 mm), and at various inclinations to the mandibular border (+ 100, 00 and -10°). The bone height and width was measured using selected tomographic images. The visibility of mandibular canal, crestal bone, and buccal and lingual surfaces were graded as 0, 1, or 2. Results : The bone width at the maxillo-tangential projection was wider than at the dento-tangential projection (p < 0.05). The visibility of buccal and lingual surface at the maxillo-tangential projection was higher than at the dento-tangential projection (p<0.05). Thinner image layer thicknesses resulted in greater visibility of buccal and lingual surfaces (p < 0.05). Bone height was greatest in the -10° group, and at the same time the bone width of the same group was the narrowest (p < 0.05). The visibility of alveolar crest and buccal surface of the + 10° group was the highest, while the visibility of the mandibular canal was greatest in the 00 group. Conclusion: When spiral tomography is performed at the mandibular posterior portion for visualization prior to implant surgery, it is important that the inferior border of mandible be positioned as parallel as possible to the floor. A greater improvement of visibility can be achieved by maintaining a thin image layer thickness when performing spiral tomography.

  • This article cites examples of cultural heritages that urgently require protection measures, and the reinterpretation of beacons, fortresses, and extremities identified in the process of conducting a cultural heritage investigation of the DMZ and bordering areas. It is true that there are various difficulties involved in implementing thorough protection measures considering the reality of the two Koreas' division. Despite this, the "Ordinance for the Protection of Military Cultural Properties" and the "Act on the Protection and Investigation of Buried Cultural Heritage" have been enacted and are in effect. In particular, in the "Ordinance for the Protection of Military Cultural Properties," the value of protecting "military assets" is emphasized. The identification and investigation of cultural heritages in the DMZ and border areas must continue. Although field research is currently difficult, the primary investigation conducted by high-altitude terrain analysis and literature research is considered effective. Furthermore, there are parts that require correction and supplementation with future field investigations. Although some trial and error is expected during these various cultural heritage investigations, they need to continue.
