책표지 디자인에서 시각적 요소가 독자 선호도에 미치는 영향 -문학도서를 중심으로 (The effect of visual factors on the reader's preference in the book cover design -Focused on the literary books)

  • 본 연구는 문헌연구를 바탕으로 표지디자인의 개념 및 기능, 구성요소를 고찰하고 1999년부터 2002년까지 문학부문 베스트셀러 표지디자인의 사례분석을 통해 표지디자인의 특징을 도출하였다. 독자의 연령과 성별에 따라 표지디자인에 대한 독자의 선호도를 설문조사와 이미지 평가를 통해 책표지 디자인의 조건 및 방법을 제안하고자 하였다. 표지디자인의 선호도 조사에서 연령, 성별에 따라 관심있게 읽는 책의 종류와 책을 구매하는 장소, 표지디자인에 대한 관심도에 차이가 있었다. 또한 여자는 스타일서체를 선호하며, 남녀 모두 한색을 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 그 외의 시각적 요소에대한 선호도 차이가 없는 것은 표지디자인이 여러 요소들로 이루어진 통합적인 이미지이기 때문이다. 그리하여 SD법을 통해 통합적인 이미지로써 표지디자인에 대한 평가를 실시하였다. 그 결과 지나친 추상적 이미지는 명료성이 떨어져 의미전달이 어려운 것으로 나타났다. 또한 스타일 서체가 주를 이룬 표지디자인이 독특성, 명확성에서 높은 평가를 받았다. 비주얼이 뛰어나다고 해도 기능적인 면인 의미전달에서 뛰어난 것과는 차이가 있었다. 이 논문은 시각적 요소만을 한정하여 살펴보았다. 향후 표지디자인을 구성하고 있는 요소들인 재료, 재본, 형태 등에 따라 독자의 선호에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구가 진행되어야 할 것이다.

롤랑바르트의 기호학을 이용한 추상적 책표지 디자인에 관한 분석 (Analysis on the book cover design using Roland Barthes' Semiotics)

  • 본 연구는 추상적인 국내 책 표지 디자인의 신화를 분석함으로써, 롤랑 바르트의 기호학적 방법론의 적용 가능성을 알아보고 수용자들은 어떻게 받아들이는지 선호도 조사까지 시행하였다. 연구대상은 국내 출판사인 열린책들에서 30주년 기념으로 출간되었던 시리즈 중 <개미>와 <향수>를 선정하였다. 책표지디자인의 의미작용 분석 결과, 첫째, 롤랑 바르트의 기호학적 접근법은 추상적인 책표지디자인을 구성하는 시각적 요소의 기호현상을 파악하기에 적합한 도구임을 확인하였다. 둘째, 수용자들은 추상적인 형태의 디자인이 전하는 바를 잘 전달받고 있었지만 선호도 부분에 있어서는 개인적인 차이를 보여 확실한 결과를 얻기 어려웠다. 본 연구는 책표지 디자인에 나타나는 내면적 의미의 중요성과 함께 그래픽 디자이너들에게 전달자와 수용자 간의 상호작용이 이루어지도록 노력해야 한다는 시사점을 제공한다.

1890년대 미국의 포스터와 책표지 디자인-<하퍼즈>와 <인랜드 프린터>를 중심으로- (American Posters and Book Cover Design in the 1890s-Focused on Harper's and The Inland Printer)

  • The poster in America was considered merely a means of advertising until the late 1880s, and was not thought to have any intrinsic value. During the 1890s, the poster in America came into its own as a medium of artistic expression, and it was recognized anew as an medium of advertising. The production and circulation of posters became active, and it won the popularity of poster collectors. But the American poster renaissance flourished for a few brief years in the 1890s. In this thesis, I paid attention that the art poster in America was mainly a product of the publishing trade, and that it's rise and fall was connected with the circumstances of the publishing business. In chapterII, I discussed the growth of publishing business and the phenomenon of poster craze, and tried to figure out the characteristic of American poster design in 1890s. The American poster boom was formally initiated in Spring 1893, when Edward Penfield published the first of his monthly designs advertising Harper's Magazine. Penfield created a native American tradition of realism in the series of Harper's posters, his figures are realistic though anonymous, and are drawn without distortion or grotesquery, and details are reduced to essentials but not eliminated. In chapterIII, I discussed the change in book cover design in the 1890s. The rapid evolution of book and magazine covers was largely a reaction to the poster craze. Most magazines were issued with the same standard covers month after month at that time. In 1894, when William Bradley was asked to design a standard cover for the Inland Printer, he convinced the publishers to change the cover with every issue instead of designing one permanent cover. With the poster craze at its height, posters became big business, but still they were not very successful as advertisements. Because collectors of the 1890s were more interested in acquiring posters than in buying books. Significantly, this was also the moment when poster like designs began to appear on the covers of books and mass magazines. Publishers took notice of an idea. If the eye-catching design was on the cover itself rather than on a separate poster, the customer who wished to acquire the design would be obliged to buy the magazine. So there was no distinction stylistically between the posters of the 1890s and the magazine covers of the early 1900s. At the same time, the artistic poster was beginning to decline. While the most typical advertisements of the 1890s were the book and magazine posters of Bradley and Penfield, after 1900 advertisements for manufacturers' products played an increasingly prominent role. They would never again assume the leading role that they had played in the 1890s.

패션온라인창업 교육을 위한 전자책 콘텐츠 개발에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Development of E-book Contents for Fashion Online Entrepreneurship Education)

  • This study developed e-book content in order to use e-books as a tool to provide more efficient classes to learners who are familiar with smart devices and online spaces. E-book contents were produced using Sigil-0.9.10. The development process is as follows. Before e-book development, it is necessary to prepare manuscript files, image files to be inserted, fonts to be used, and e-book covers. After inserting the book cover images, it is necessary to register the table of contents using the title tag and register the free fonts. Also, a style must be created for text or images used in the main text connected to a file containing the entire text. Then, after separating the entire text file into separate files according to each chapter, the text is completed in turn. E-books were produced focusing on hyperlink functions so that educational content and various example images could be accessed. Currently, there is a lack of research on e-books as textbooks in universities within the fashion design major. In the future, if e-book contents are developed according to the characteristics of courses and the level of learners, they can be used as effective teaching tools.

그림책에 대한 생산자와 소비자의 인식 차이 연구 (Recognition of Picture Book Makers(Editors/Writers) and Consumers(Parents of Young Children/Preschool Teachers) about Picture Books)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the recognition differences between picture book makers(editors/writers) and picture book consumers(parents of young children/preschool teachers) about picture books. The study subjects were 69 children's book-editors(editors, designers), 72 children's book-writers, 78 parents of young children, and 79 preschool teachers. The results of this study were as follows. First, they differently recognized the effects of good picture books on children's development, and the contents and components of picture books. However, both groups preferred creative stories to traditional stories and agreed on the children's preferences of the book genre and characteristics. Second, picture book makers and consumers were differently aware of the quality of Korean picture books published in Korea but they agreed on the quality of foreign picture books. They thought that more picture books with better contents and formality on the imaginary, artistic, and real-life related themes needed to be published in Korea. Third, the book makers and consumers obtained information on the picture books in the book stores and libraries in most cases. The book makers were more interested than the consumer in the picture, writer, cover design, and publishing company of the books, whereas the consumers placed a higher priority in the purchase process. Both groups pointed out the non-professional editing and sales policy as the problems in the Korean publishing company.

  • 해외건설공사와 관련된 리스크에 대해서는 많은 연구들이 있었으나, 계약조건의 내용을 토대로 한 리스크 인자도출이나 분석은 없었다. 건설공사에서의 권리와 의무가 계약내용에 따라 발생한다는 가장 기본적인 사실을 고려할 때 계약적 권리와 의무를 규정하고 있는 계약조건의 내용에 따른 리스크의 인식과 대응은 해외건설공사의 성공적인 수행에 필수적인 요소이며 따라서 계약조건을 기반으로 한 리스크 인자도출은 중요하고도 핵심적인 가치를 가질 수 있는 것으로 판단되었다. 본 연구를 통해 계약시 유념하여야 할 핵심 계약적 리스크 인자들을 발굴함으로써 해외건설공사 입찰이나 계약시 많은 실무적인 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

인천지역 일부 외식업체의 메뉴북 디자인 실태조사 (A Study on the Current Status of Menu Book Design in the Restaurant of Incheon Area)

  • In order to aide in the design of an improved menu book, which could play an important role as a marketing tool, the current version of the menu books and managers (subjects) of 295 restaurants in the Incheon area were examined. These were managers of Korean (36.3%), Western (25.8%), Japanese (14.6%), cafeteria (12.5%) and Chinese (10.8%) style restaurants. The level of service (self-evaluation, 3-point scale) was average $2.25{\pm}0.45$. The general colorings of the menu books were green (19.0%), brown (18.6%), black (17.6%), yellow (15.9%), red (13.6%) and blue (13.2%). The material of the menu book cover was mainly leather (35.9%), and the internal material was mainly coated paper (59.7%). Physically, the design was two-panel fold (38.3%), two-panel multi-page (35.6%), die style (10.2%), single panel (8.1%) and tent style (7.8%). The type sizes were unchanged in 49.9% of the menu books and in 61.7% photos were not used. 53.9% of menu books did not explain the menus, and 13.2% did not classify the items into groups. Emphasis of profit-making menus was not done in 66.8%. 51.5% of menu books were irreplaceable in parts. The emphasis of profit-making menus was less among the Korean style restaurants (p<0.001). The possibility of partial replacement of menu books was lower in both Korean and Chinese restaurants (p<0.001). The explanation of the items was lower in the Japanese restaurants (p<0.001). The classification of items into groups was lower in cafeteria (p<0.001). In cases in which there were both seasonal and event menus, the possibility of partial replacements of menu books was higher (p<0.001). Restaurants of which service level was less than ordinary were lower in the differentiation of type sizes (p<0.001), the use of photos (p<0.001), the explanation of menus (p<0.001), the classification of menus by groups (p<0.05), the emphasis of profit-making menus (p<0.001) and the possibility of partial replacement of menu books (p<0.001). If these study findings are applied to the designing of menu books, the role of the menu book as an important tool for marketing could be greatly improved.
