In an experimental and analytical study on the structural behavior of slender circular steel-concrete composite columns, eleven specimens were tested to investigate the effects of three ways to apply a load to a column. The load was applied eccentrically to the concrete section, to the steel section or to the entire section. Three-dimensional nonlinear finite element models were established and verified with the experimental results. The analytical models were also used to study how the behavior of the column was influenced by the bond strength between the steel tube and the concrete core and the by confinement of the concrete core offered by the steel tube. The results obtained from the tests and the finite element analyses showed that the behavior of the column was greatly influenced by the method used to apply a load to the column section. When relying on just the natural bond, full composite action was achieved only when the load was applied to the entire section of the column. Furthermore, because of the slenderness effects the columns did not exhibit the beneficial effects of composite behavior in terms of increased concrete strength due to the confinement.
In this study, the shear behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) beams that were retrofitted using precast panels of ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) is presented. The precast UHPFRC panels were glued to the side surfaces of RC beams using epoxy adhesive in two different configurations: (i) retrofitting two sides, and (ii) retrofitting three sides. Experimental tests on the adhesive bond were conducted to estimate the bond capacity between the UHPFRC and normal concrete. All the specimens were tested in shear under varying levels of shear span-to-depth ratio (a/d=1.0; 1.5). For both types of configuration, the retrofitted specimens exhibited a significant improvement in terms of stiffness, load carrying capacity and failure mode. In addition, the UHPFRC retrofitting panels glued in three-sides shifted the failure from brittle shear to a more ductile flexural failure with enhancing the shear capacity up to 70%. This was more noticeable in beams that were tested with a/d=1.5. An approach for the approximation of the failure capacity of the retrofitted RC beams was evolved using a multi-level regression of the data obtained from the experimental work. The predicted values of strength have been validated by comparing them with the available test data. In addition, a 3-D finite element model (FEM) was developed to estimate the failure load and overall behaviour of the retrofitted beams. The FEM of the retrofitted beams was conducted using the non-linear finite element software ABAQUS.

This study was carried out to investigate quantitatively the relationship between the degree of rebar corrosion and the strength of reinforced concrete beams. After producing equations for the relationship between both the tensile properties of rebars and bond properties and the corrosion percentage of rebars, finite element analysis and bending tests were conducted for RC beams damaged by corrosion of tension main rebar. As a result, it was made that the strength of RC beams damaged by corrosion could be practically simulated by FEM analysis using experimentally determined material properties representing the bond and the mechanical characteristics of corroded rebars.

The purpose of this research is the evaluation of the estimation equation of "CEP-FIP Model Code 1990(1991)", recently included in the domestic "Concrete Structure Design Code(2007)" in consideration of the concrete strength. As evaluation tools, crack element model applied a detailed bond-slip model as well as crack width obtained from experimental results by earlier researches. The crack element model is verified through the comparison with experimental results. The important variables in the estimation equation for the crack width in CEP-FIP Model Code 1990 are the tension stiffening effect and mean bond stress proposed in the paper to be improved in consideration of the concrete strength.
Recently, brick walls are being widely introduced in rural areas. Walls are a very important design element of space. However, most brick wall works do not consider the human psychological characteristics. The purpose of this study was to investigate psychological characteristics on brick wall bonds such as the stack bond, running bond, english bond, flemish bond, america bond. The results of the research can be summarized as follows: 1)There is no statistical difference of psychological evaluation results among student groups using the semantic differential scale method using 10 adjectives. 2)Stack bonds have an uninspiring, artificial, simple, restful, boring and ordered psychological characteristic. Running bonds have an uninspiring, restful and ordered psychological characteristic. America bonds have a unique and modernistic psychological characteristic. English bonds have a unique, modernistic, complex and chaotic psychological characteristic. Flemish bonds have no critical psychological characteristics. 3)The running bond earned the highest score in preference, while the stack bond scored the lowest. Employment of brick wall bonds on this study was not highly preferred, hence it is necessary to develop a new brick wall bond design. 4)In conclusion, the proper selection of brick wall bonds is very important and we should consider human psychological characteristics in the design of rural areas.

The objectives of this research are to establish the criteria of peel occurrence considering the shape of bond terminus and to compare the strength properties of some adhesive joints. The criteria of feel occurrence at the bond terminus was suggested. Peel loads of some adhesive joint(butt joint, T -shape specimen, single lap joint) were determined from tensile tests. Principal stress distributions of these joints were determined from finite element method analysis. Then, peel occurrence was estimated with intensity of stress singularity ' $K_{prin.}$' when the terminus shape was square, with average principal stress when the terminus shape was rounded. The conclusions are summarized as follows; (1) In the non-filleted model(e.g., butt joint, T-shape specimen), principal stress shows singularity at the bond terminus, intensity of stress(principal stress) singularity ' $K_{prin.}$&apso; can use as the criteria of peel occurrence at the bond terminus. (2) In the filleted model(e.g., single lap joint), principal stress doesn't show singularity at the bond terminus. Average principal stress can use as the criteria of peel occurrence at the bond terminus.'t show singularity at the bond terminus. Average principal stress can use as the criteria of peel occurrence at the bond terminus.

An automatic transmission is an important element of automotive power systems that allows a driving convenience. Compared to a manual transmission, however, it has a few problems in efficiency, shift feel, and maintenance. To improve these, it is imperative to understand the dynamics of automatic transmissions. This paper develops a dynamically-correct model of an automatic transmission, using the bond graph method. The bond graph method is ideally suited for modeling power systems, because the method is based on generalized power variables. The bond graph method is capable of providing correct dynamic constraints and kinematic constraints, as well as the governing differential equations of motion. The bond graph method is applied to 1-4 in-gear ranges, as well as various upshifts and downshifts of an automatic transmission, which allows an accurate simulation of an automatic transmission. Conventional automatic transmission models have no dynamic constraint, which do not allow correct simulation studies.

Description of the behavior of the R.C structural members fixed on massive concrete is not normally generalization of recognized configuration for regular R.C. design guidanes. This can be due to the complexity of evaluation of internal resistancy and deflection changes of the members subjected to the various external forces. On the base of axially loaded member fixed on footing, however, the estimation of deflection changes due to flexural force shear force and rotational force is to be carried out in ways of specifying the bond characteristics of axial bars embedded in massive concrete. This work is to quantify adhesion of steel-concrete, initial concrete cracking stress near bar rib, maximum bond stress and residual stress in concrete respectively. In addition to quantification of them for particulate behavior, the suggestions of multi-linear bond stress-slip diagram made in carrying out finite element analyses for adhesion failure, examining concrete cracking status and reviewing existing experimental data lead to alternatively constructed relationship between bond stress and slip for a axial bars embedded massive concrete.

Cracks on the surface of latex-modified concrete using ready mix concrete (R-LMC) are attributable to its sensitivity to air temperature, relative humidity and wind velocity. Insufficient curing under the windy condition causes plastic shrinkage cracks. The cracked areas should be replaced to prevent development of larger cracks. This paper investigated how the vibration resulted from crushing concrete for replacement of the partial cracked area affects bond strength of R-LMC at early age. To analyze bond strength of R-LMC, the commercial Finite Element (FE) program, ABAQUS Standard/Implicit version 6.12 was used, and bond strength was tested by ASTM C1583-04. The real vibration was applied to this FE model using an acceleration measurement equipment.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect retention element formed by metal surface treatment method on the bond strength of indirect composite resin and metal. The metal specimens were cast from Ni-Cr alloy($Rexillium^{(R)}$ III). They were divided into 5 groups by applied retention element: $50{\mu}m$ aluminium oxide sandblasting group, $250{\mu}m$ aluminium oxide sandblasting group, 0.2mm retention crystal group, 10% $H_{2}SO_{4}$ solution etching group, $110{\mu}m$$Rocatec^{TM}$ Plus system group. Total 50 metal specimens were veneered with Sinfony indirect composite resin system. Specimens were tested for shear bond strength on an Instron universal testing machine and fracture mode of fractured specimens were analyzed by SEM and EDS. 1. 0.2 mm retention crystals were most effective in improving the resin-metal shear bond strength (p<0.05). 2. Sandblasting by $250{\mu}m$ aluminium oxide were more effective than sandblasting by $50{\mu}m$ aluminium oxide in improving the resin-metal shear bond strength(p<0.05). 3. Fracture mode of resin-metal fractured surface were cohesive failure mode in 0.2mm retention crystal, mixed failure mode in sandblasted specimens, etched specimens and the specimens sandblasted with $110{\mu}m$$Rocatec^{TM}$ Plus system.
