General systems have many substructures assembled at joints. The bolted joint is generally used in assembling the mechanical parts. However, there are no effective modeling methods to analyze the dynamic characteristics of bolt jointed structure using the finite element (FE) analysis, especially in case of large area contact. Moreover, the design methods for the appropriate bolt locations and the number of bolts considering the dynamic characteristics are not guided properly. In this study, a proper modeling method is developed to simulate the dynamic characteristics of a structure with the large interfaced area using the cone frusta method and spring elements. The natural frequencies are also controlled by adjusting the bolt-joint location and the number of bolts considering relative distances in mode shapes at the interface of bolt-jointed plates. The Modeling method and the optimized design method are verified based on the experimental and the FE analysis results.

A brake system in automobile is one of the important parts that directly affect the safety of passengers. Particularly, disk brake module is applied to almost all kinds of automobile brake system due to its remarkable braking power and braking distance. In the disk brake module of an automobile, the bolt for tire wheel is assembled to the disk brake hub by interference fit (bolt pressing process). The process induces small deformation whose range is within tens of ${\mu}m$ and this deformation may cause the runout badness of the whole disk brake module, and even braking problems such as judder or squeal phenomena which makes the loss of braking efficiency. In this study, bolt pressing fit into hub was simulated by $ANSYS^{TM}$, a commercial structure analysis program. Also, the aspect and the cause of hub displacement were analyzed and the solution for decreasing runout of hub was proposed.

Explosive bolt is one of separation device that uses high explosive charge, and is separated by pressure formed by an explosion and the resulting shock waves. Explosive bolt having such a mechanism would have to be designed to minimize shock and debris formation generated during separation. In this study, separation tests were carried out with distance as variable for restraining the explosive bolt (Air Gap). Bolt release and its separating shape with variation of air gap is observed, and we used accelerometer to measure the shock wave transmitted through a bound object. In addition, separation behavior of explosive bolt is analyzed using ANSYS AUOTODYN program. By comparing the results of previously performed experiments and analysis, we could confirm the effects of air gap to the release behavior of explosive bolt, and decide optimum constraining environment for specific separation bolts.

Driving performance is affected by a steering mechanism and characteristics of the ground at off-road skateboarding. In order to drive on off-road, it is necessary off-road wheel and high performance steering mechanism to adapt on various configuration of the ground. In this paper, design factors are studied to affect to steering radius such as inclination angle of a king-bolt, distance of a wheel axle, and rolling angle of a deck plate. A steering system is adhered to inclination face of the deck plate. And, inclination angle is existed between the king-bolt and the flat face of the deck plate. Therefore, the wheel axle of the steering system can be steered by control of the rolling angle of the deck plate.
A single plate connection(SPC) consists of a plate welded to the columns and bolts connected to the beam web. The SPC is widely used for a simple shear connection of steel structure because it is easy-to-fabricated, easy-to-installed and economical. The conventional SPC is used for 2 to 12 bolts in a single vertical row. It is designed to limit the plate thickness by bolt diameter to obtain flexible and ductile connections. The design strength for eccentric shear shall be the lesser of the shear strength of bolts or bearing strength of plate and when the design strength is decided by edge distance failure, the results can be very conservative. Although the research on special solution for 'weak-plate/strong-bolt' model with 2 to 4 bolts has been conducted by L. S. Muir, and W. A. Thonton, 2004, study on generalized design procedures did not conduct. This study proposed design procedure for evaluation of the design strength of eccentric shear bolt groups on a single plate connection based on the actual edge distance and the direction of bolt reaction forces by using elastic vector method(EVM) and instantaneous center of rotation method(ICM).
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of acoustic radiation force on the standing wave acoustic levitation phenomenon, which is the levitation of small objects near the pressure node of the standing wave, using the Bernoulli principle. The source and scheme of the acoustic radiation force, which is the cause of the levitation, are conceptually explained through comparison with the graph of the acoustic radiation force versus the distance from the transducer. A series of experiments supporting this explanation was performed with a BLT(Bolt-clamped Langevin Type) ultrasonic transducer to confirm that the objects are floating near the pressure nodes and that it satisfies the condition for the standing wave formation when the object is levitating. Furthermore, the vertical alignment of floating objects, which is a characteristic of standing wave acoustic levitation phenomenon, could be explained.
Resin Transfer Molding FRP (RTM FRP) is a fiber reinforced polymeric plastic which is manufactured by applying pressure to fibers, injecting resin into a mold, and then impregnating it. RTM FRP is a new construction material suitable for producing non-continuum structural elements such as sole plate because it has excellent strength and can produce many members in a short time. In this study, experiments were conducted to estimate the capacity of the bolted connection of RTM FRP. First, a tensile test was conducted to confirm the mechanical properties such as the tensile strength of the RTM FRP to be used for the bolted connection experiments. In addition, experiments were conducted on the bolted connection with the thickness of the RTM FRP and the edge distance of the bolt as variables. In the first experiment, F4.8 bolts were used, and shear failure of the bolt occurred before the RTM FRPs were failed. The F4.8 bolt is a general structural bolts used for the sole plate of a bridge bearing, and it was confirmed that the RTM FRP has a higher bold bearing strength than the shear strength of a F4.8 bolt. In the second experiment, G12.9 bolts were used, and shear failure of the bolt and bearing failure of the RTM FRP occurred simultaneously. In addition, as the thickness of the RTM FRP and the edge length of the bolt increased, the strength of the joint increased. When analogized with the bearing fracture equation of steel plate, the bolted connection of RTM FRP showed a bearing strength coefficient of 0.420 to 0.549 compared to the tensile strength, and it is considered that further research is needed.

Many studies have been conducted on the high tension bolt friction connection in the view of the field practice. Those effort, however, unfortunately have not been appropriately applied in the design specifications. Recently, particularly for steel bridges, rationalization of design takes greater attention from designers and hence, demand on rationalization of high tension connection becomes more significant. The purpose of this study is to suggest direction for the rationalization of high tension bolt connection and to also provide fundamental information for the improvement of the design specifications. In order to accomplish the purposes, the design specifications in Korea was analyzed and compared with other specification from abroad, and was studied one of the most important factors including slip coefficient, and the specifications on the size of bolt holes. The effect of over-sized bolt hole and the reduction of axial force on bolt was evaluated through the experimental studies on the slippage of the high tension bolt connections. Other research topics included herein includes the difference of slip coefficients, the effect of over-sized bolt holes and the gap distance of members, and the application of filler plate and corrosion protected bolts. From the research results, it is known that the specifications in Korea apply a constant slip coefficient with respect to the contacted surface conditions while various coefficients are available depending on the contacted surface conditions. Therefore, it is recommended that the specifications in Korea also develop and detail the slip coefficient which can appropriately take account of the variation of the contacted surface conditions. It is also suggested that the limitation abroad on the over-sized bolt hole may be applied for enhancing the effectiveness of construction.

In this study, It was purpose to provide preliminary data for extension of the applicability of deep corrugated steel plate composite members by steel grade and shear reinforcement method. From the result of flexural test on deep corrugated plates composite members using GR40 and SS590, positive moment capacity was increased about 28% by SS590 steel. But to change steel grade was proved to have insignificant effects for increasement of negative moment capacity. In the moment test result of same overlapping length, Increasement rate of positive and negative moment capacity was not significantly improved by increasing the number of bolt. It was estimated to be due to the characteristics of bolt connection such as distance between centers of bolts, edge distance of bolt. In the test result on the spacing of shear reinforcement, positive moment capacity was increased and deformation of negative moment was reduced as the distance decrease. In the test result on the shape of shear reinforcement, positive and negative moment resistance was increased about 2% ~ 7% by U shaped shear reinforcement. In conclusion It was estimated that moment capacity of deep corrugated steel plate composite members are depend on steel grade of deep corrugated steel plate, spacing of shear reinforcement and reinforcing bar.

A design optimization is performed for the double-bolted joint in cylindrical composite structures by using a simplified analytical method. This method uses failure criteria for the major failure modes of the bolted composite joint. For the double-bolted joint with a zigzag arrangement, it is necessary to consider an interaction effect between the bolt arrays. This paper proposes another failure mode which is determined by angle and distance between two bolts in different arrays and define a failure criterion for the failure mode. The optimal design for the double-bolted joint is carried out by considering the interactive net-tension failure mode. The genetic algorithm (GA) is adopted to determine the optimized parameters; bolt spacing, edge distance, and stacking sequence of the composite laminate. A purpose of the design optimization is to maximize the burst pressure of the cylindrical structures by ensuring structural integrity. Also, a progressive failure analysis (PFA) is performed to verify the results of the optimal design for the double-bolted joint. In PFA, Hashin 3D failure criterion is used to determine the ply that would fail. A stiffness reduction model is then used to reduce the stiffness of the failed ply for the corresponding failure mode.
