  • Ventilation effect is analyzed for boiler building with multiple heat sources. Air flow inside the boiler building is characterized as turbulent mixed convection. Analysis methodology is set up with two different $k-{\varepsilon}$ type models (standard $k-{\varepsilon}$, RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$). Two different cases with high and low outside temperature are analyzed. In case of high outside temperature condition, mixed convection is well realized inside the boiler building. With different upper louver opening rate, air flow is also well established and proper opening rate is found to meet design limit in case of low outside temperature condition. Difference of analysis results for two different turbulence models are not significant. Therefore, analysis methodology with simple $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model is found to be reliable for the boiler building ventilation analysis. However, more simplified geometrical model is desired to expand its application.

  • Residential buildings account for a significant portion of the total building-energy usage in Korea, and a variety of research studies on the domestic boiler have therefore been carried out; however, most of these studies examined the boiler itself, whereby the part-load ratio characteristics and the corresponding gas-energy consumption patterns were not analyzed. In this study, the part-load ratio and operating characteristics of a domestic gas boiler were analyzed within a residential building equipped with a radiant floor-heating system; in addition, the energy consumption between condensing and conventional boilers was comparatively analyzed. Our results show that significant portions of the total operating hours, heating load, and energy consumption are in the part-load ratio range of 0 through 40%, whereby the energy consumption was significantly affected by the boiler efficiency under low part-load conditions. These results indicate that the part-load operation of a boiler is an important factor in residential buildings; furthermore, replacing a conventional boiler with a condensing boiler can reduce annual gas-energy usage by more than 20%.

  • Almost every industrial plant or building has their own boiler systems, so boilers are often called "kinds of social infrastructures"In Korea, We have many indistinct problems on efficient operations of industrial boiler systems. In this paper, to elevate thermal operation efficiency and to diminish air pollutions of the boilers, especially in urban area, at present, "The muliple installation systems of small type once through boiler(gas fired)" are suggested.

  • Objectives: The objective of this paper is to find flow and heat transfer characteristics numerically in boiler buildings for three different ventilation window configurations. Methods: Turbulent natural convection flow in boiler buildings with a constant heating wall temperature was analyzed numerically. Governing equations were solved with standard finite-volume method using the SIMPLE algorithm. Conclusions: Flow and heat transfer characteristics are found for three different ventilation types. In the lower area under furnace, velocity and temperature distributions show similar patterns among the three different ventilation types. In the upper area over furnace, however, air flow is well mixed with lower peak temperatures for types B and C, which have roof ventilation windows, compared to type A which has side wall louvers only. Also, type B, with a single large roof window, shows better ventilation effect than does type C with its distribution roof windows.

  • This study is to optimize design parameters for waste heat recovery boiler with water tube and three drum. The design optimization considered here is to find the most economic dimension of the boiler considered which results in a minimum cost in producing a unit amount of steam per given period of operation. For this purpose, optimize design have to determine what are the main parameters of affecting the total cost of producing a unit amount of steam which is comprised of manufacturing cost of the boiler, operating cost of the fan etc.

  • This study is the survey of a transition procedure of building services systems(heat source, HVAC, water supply) through the survey of existing office buildings, building design documents. The preference & major consideration of system selection is the engineer's opinions. The results of this survey can be used in selection of building services system design. In this survey, "Hot & cold water generator system" and "single duct CAV+FCU system", "Elevated water tank system" are selected. The most important consideration in system selection is the energy saving in heat source system, and comfort in HVAC system, and water pressure in water supply system. They prefer "steam boiler+absorption chiller system" for heat source system, "steam boiler+ice thermal storage system", "hot & cold water generator system", "district heating+absorption chiller system" : "single duct CAV+FCU system" and "single duct VAV+convector system" for HVAC system: and "booster pump system" for water supply system.

  • Recently, there has been a growing interest in the development of non-sintered binder to reduce CO2 emissions from the cement clinker manufacturing process and a number of studies have been conducted on fly ashes as an industrial by-product. However, in order to utilize fly ashes as a non-sintered binder, it is necessary to solve problems such as safety issues and economical efficiency due to use of an alkali activator. This study evaluates the material properties and compressive strength characteristics of three types of circulating fluidized bed boiler ashes. As a result, it was confirmed that the characteristics of each binder vary depending on the location of the power plant and the types of raw materials. In addition, it has been confirmed that the fluidized bed boiler ash shows a high compressive strength and can be used sufficiently as an non-sintered binder.
