  • An experimental study was conducted to examine the effectiveness of a suction-blowing fan that could not only remove polluted air by suction but also create the air-curtain by blowing. In order to create the air-curtain, rotors were installed on the surface of the shroud. These blows fresh air into the polluted region. The fresh air is spouted backward 45o on the basis of the axial direction using a double-ducted bellmouth. In the same suction operating condition, the suction region was extended by increasing the blowing velocity. However, the increasing rate of suction region was reduced when the blowing velocity was increased steadily. Thus, an efficient blowing velocity should be determined depending on the suction operating condition. In addition, the blowing requires additional input power. In a fixed suction operating condition, the input power was linearly increased in proportion to the blowing flowrate. When the suction-blowing fan was operated in the same input power as the suction fan, the suction region was increased more than 30% based on the 0.6m/sec velocity.

  • Blowing film was prepared using polyester elastomer with thermally expandable microcapsule to investigate the optimum blowing properties and the film making process. Physical properties including specific gravity, blowing efficiency, foaming shape, tensile strength and elongation of polyester film were tested by varying the process condition of temperature and revolution per minutes of the extruder. The lowest specific gravity of 0.709 can be achieved with excellent foaming cells at $210^{\circ}C$ and 50 RPM conditions. The highest tensile strength and elongation was shown at $210^{\circ}C$, 100 RPM and $230^{\circ}C$, 25 RPM conditions. However, most of the prepared polyester films showed over $1kg_f/mm^2$ of tensile strength which is reasonable value to use in film applications.

Combustion properties of h rice bran dust according to size distribution and amount were measured as temperature v variation with time using spontaneous ignition apparatus. Moreover, combustion properties w with blowing or without blowing condition were checked in order to investigate combustion p properties in spontaneous ignition apparatus according to flow condition of air. A As the mass and size of rice bran dust was increased, i띠ti외 smoldering temperature was l lowered. All of combustion forms were smoldering combustion. Initial smold얹ing temperature w was slightly lower with blowing condition than without blowing condition in spontaneous i ignition apparatus, which condition made heating value high.

  • We had investigated combustion properties of starch. Decomposition of starch scavenged by pre-cipitator of spinning factory with temperature were investigated using DSC and TGA. Combustion properties of starch according to amount were checked as temperature variation according to time using spontaneous ignition apparatus. Moreover, combustion properties with blowing or without blowing condition were checked in spontaneous ignition apparatus. As results of thermal analyses, increase in raising temperature causes initial smoldering temperature to move towards low temperature section. In addition, as amount of starch was increased, initial smoldering temperature was lowered. All of combustion forms were smoldering combustion. Initial smoldering temperature was low more slightly with blowing condition than without blowing condition in spontaneous ignition apparatus, which condition made heating value high.

  • A finite-difference method based on characteristic upwind flux difference splitting has been studied on the blowing effect on the wall heat transfer over blunt-bodies. As the blowing rates increased, the wall heat transfer rate decreased and the temperature gradient also decreased compared with no blowing case. The heat trasfer rate at Mach No. 20 was almost twice higher than that of Mach No. 15 at 50km altitude. The surface blowing can be an effective mechanism to reduce the surface heat transfer rate at hypersonic flight condition.

  • Nnumerical investigations of the tip vortical characteristics were conducted with lateral tip blowing to reduce Blade-Vortex Interaction (BVI) noise. The predictions of BVI noise were performed using a combined method of an unsteady Euler code with an aeroacoustic code based on Ffowcs- Williams and Hawkings formulation. A moving overlapped grid system with three types of grids (blade grid, inner and outer background grid) was used to simulate BVI of helicopter with two OLS-airfoil blades in forward/ descending flight condition. The calculated waveform of BVI noise, which is characterized by the distinct peaks caused during blade vortex interaction, clearly shows the effect of lateral blowing at tip to reduce BVI noise

  • Recently, the spun blend yarns with staple fibers and filaments are being developed in the spinning process using an air blowing and electrostatic spinning technology(cyclone) in order to enhance the soft feeling and the fine count spun blend yarn manufacturing competitiveness. In this study, the appropriate separation condition of polyester multifilament was examined according to the treatment condition of conductive agents and voltage on polyester multifilament in the newly developed cyclone spinning process. And it was investigated the physical properties and dyeability of the cyclone wool/polyester spun blend yarns and its wool composite fabrics in comparison with existing sirofil wool/polyester spun blend yarn and its fabrics. As the result, it is determined that the newly developed cyclone wool/polyester spun blend yarn applied fabrics has a superior quality level in terms of practicality.

  • A successful scaffold should have a highly porous structure and good mechanical stability. High porosity and appropriate pore size provide structural matrix for initial cell attachment and proliferation enabling the exchange of nutrients between the scaffold and environment. In this paper the highly porous scaffold of poly(${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone) electrospun nanofibers could be manufactured with an auxiliary electrode and chemical blowing agent (BA) under several processing conditions, such as the concentration of PCL solution, weight percent of a chemical blowing agent, and decomposition time of a chemical blowing agent. To attain stable electrospinnability and blown nanofiber mats having high microporosity and large pore, a processing condition, 8wt% of PCL solution and 0.5wt% of a chemical blowing agent under $100^{\circ}C$ and decomposition time of $2{\sim}3\;s$, was used. The growth characteristic of human dermal fibroblasts cells cultured in the mats showed the good adhesion and proliferation on the blown mat compared to a normal electrospun mat.

  • An optimal soot blowing system has been developed for an optimal operation of power utility boilers by both minimization of the use of steam and the number of soot blowers worked during soot blowing. Traditionally, the soot blowing system has been operated manually by operators. However, it causes the reduction of power and thermal performance degradation because all soot blowers installed in the plant should be worked simultaneously even there are lots of tubes those are not contaminated by slagging or fouling. Heat transfer area is divided into four groups, furnace, convection area including superheater, reheater and economizer, and air preheater in the present study. The condition of cleanness of the tubes is calculated by several parameters obtained by sensors. Then, a part of soot blowers works automatically where boiler tubes are contaminated. This system has been applied in a practical power plant. Therefore, comparison has been done between this system and manual operation and the results are discussed.
