Cardiovascular Actions of Daucus carota

  • Ethanolic extract of Daucus carota (DC) at the dose of 10-100 mg/kg caused a dose-dependent fall in systolic and diastolic arterial blood pressure in nomotensive anesthetized rats. These effects were not blocked by atropine (1 mg/kg) and pretratment with DC did not alter the pressor response to norepinephrine indicating that cardiovascular effects of DC are independent of cholinergic or adrenergic recptors involvement. In spontaneously beating guinea-pig paired atria, DC induced a concentration-dependent (03-5 mg/ml) decrease in force and rate of atrial contractions. In rabbit thoracic aorta, DC caused inhibition of $K^+$-induced contractions at similar concentrations. These results suggest that the extract may exhibit $Ca^{2+}$ channel blocking-like direct relaxant action on cardiac and smooth muscle preperations and this action may be responsible for its hypotensive effect observed in the in vivo studies.

  • The effect of 4 seaweed extracts (Desmarestia viridis, Dictyopteris divaricata, Scytosiphon lomentaria, and Ishige okamurae) on pro-inflammatory mediators as well as nuclear factor $(NF)-{\kappa}B$ in the stimulated Raw 264.7 cells was investigated. They reduced iNOS and interlukin $(IL)-1{\beta}$ expressions at transcription level. Of those, 3 extracts (D. divaricata, I. okamurae, and S. lomentaria) inhibited the COX-2 expression at translation level. $I{\kappa}B-{\alpha}$ degradation was inhibited by D. divaricata and S. lomentaria extracts. Therefore, we concluded that the extracts from D. divaricata and S. lomentaria could inhibit the activation of murine macrophage through the blocking of $NF-{\kappa}B$ activation.

Heavy Metal Adsorption of Anodically Treated Activated Carbon Fibers in Aqueous Solution

  • In this work, the effect of anodic oxidation treatment on Cr(VI) ion adsorption behaviors of activated carbon fibers (ACFs) was investigated. The aqueous solutions of 10 wt% $H_3PO_4$ and $NH_4OH$ were used for acidic and basic electrolytes, respectively. Surface characteristics and textural properties of ACFs were determined by XPS and $N_2$ adsorption at 77 K. The heavy metal adsorption of ACFs was conducted by ICP. As a result, the adsorption amount of the anodized ACFs was improved in order of B-ACFs > A-ACFs > pristine-ACFs. In case of the anodized treated ACFs, the specific surface area was decreased due to the pore blocking or pore destroying by acidic electrolyte. However, the anodic oxidation led to an increase of the Cr(VI) adsorption, which can be attributed to an increase of oxygen-containing functional groups, such as, carboxylic, lactonic, and phenolic groups. It was clearly found that the Cr(VI) adsorption was largely influenced by the surface functional groups, in spite of the reduced specific surface area of the ACFs.

  • 현대에 있어서 영상정보는 아주 큰 비중을 차지하고 있다. 따라서 이러한 영상정보를 얼마나 빨리 그리고 많이 압축 시킬 수 있는가가 핵심적인 관건이다. 본 논문에서는 공간적 압축 방식의 핵심인 DCT와 비교하여 블록킹 효과(Blocking Effect)과 없고, 우수한 압축 성능을 갖는 DWT(Discrete Wavelet Transform)알고리즘을 적용한 2차원 이산 웨이브렛 변환 필터를 설계하였다. 본 논문에서 구현한 DWT 필터는 FIR필터 방법으로 설계하였으며, Daubenchies-4 Tap을 이용하였고, 파이프라인 연산으로 승산기, 가산기를 병렬로 처리하여 고속연산을 수행하였다. 뿐만 아니라 메모리 맵핑 과정과 메모리 컨트롤 어드레스 발생기를 사용하여 메모리와 연산량을 최소화 하여 칩사이즈를 줄여 설계하였다.

  • The signal fading distortion has effect on the capacity of cellular mobile communication systems. The short term fading is solved by signal processing techniques depending on the radio communication methods, but another distortion compensation techniques are necessary to combat long term fading. in this paper, we have simulated the call processing in DS-CDMA system using distributed antennas to overcome the long term fading. From the simulation results, we have conformed that the blocking probability of a new call andthe forced probability of handoff-request-call have decreased by increasing the number of distributed antennas.

Video coding based on wavelet transform for very low bitrate channel (웨이브릿 변환을 사용한 초저속 전송 매체용 비디오 코딩)

  • The video coding for very low bit rate has recently received considerable attention, but conventional block based transform coding schemes suffer from the blocking effect for the constraints of bit rates. In this paper, we present a video coding sysem suing multi-resolution motion estimation/compensation with variable size block(VMRME/C) and multi-resolution vector quantization(MRVQ) in wavelet transform domain for very low bit rate coding. It is shown that the presented scheme has better performance in the peak signal-to-nose ratio(RSNR) by 0.2-0.6 dB as well as subjective quality than that of conventional block based transform video coding techniques(especially, H. 263 which is DCT based video coding).

Pulse Multiplication in Autotransformer Based AC-DC Converters using a Zigzag Connection

  • This paper deals with pulse multiplication in zigzag connected autotransformer based 12-pulse AC-DC converters feeding vector controlled induction motor drives (VCIMD) for improving the power quality at the point of common coupling (PCC) without using a Zero-Sequence-Blocking-Transformer (ZSBT). The proposed 24-pulse AC-DC converter is based on the principle of DC ripple re-injection technique for pulse multiplication and harmonic mitigation. The design of the autotransformer is carried out for the proposed AC-DC converter and the effect of load variation on VCIMD is also studied to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed AC-DC converter. Test results from a laboratory developed prototype, along with simulated results, are presented to validate the design and model of the proposed 24-pulse AC-DC converter.

  • The frame coding inside the screen for a video coder has a big influence on the quality of the whole frame. The standardized video coder uses DCT, however it can give rise to a low image quality due to the blocking effect at low bit rate. This paper proposes a video coding method for an image quality improvement in human visual aspects. With the proposed method, the perceptual weight is coded with SPIHT and VLC by applying it into the frame and the visual noises are eliminated.

  • Effects of post-metallization anneal (PMA) on interface trap characteristics of Si-$SiO_2$ are studied. The conventional PMA method utilizes forming gas anneal, where 10% hydrogen in nitrogen atmosphere is used. A new PMA method utilizes hydrogen rich PECVD- silicon nitride $(SiN_x)$ film as a hydrogen diffusion source and a out-diffusion blocking layer. It can be shown through charge pumping current measurement that the new PMA is indeed effective to decrease Si-$SiO_2$ interface trap density.

  • Spam mail is one of the side effect of the development and improvement of the internet that restrains the privacy of the individual on line. However indiscriminate application of Spam mail blocking can also cause significant violation on freedom of doing business to the fluent commercial transactions on line. Therefore this research looks at the exact understanding of the concept of Spam mail and inquiry on Its issues. Also it looks at the case studies of its institutional solutions in USA and Europe as well as the advantage and disadvantage of the case studies on its technical solution. Finally, the research inquires into overall prevention of Spam mail, which considers both technical and institutional soiution. With this research, limitations of current Spam mail prevention system and technology are pointed out and more effective course of overall Spam mail prevention solution is studied.
