Powder blasting, which is an efficient micromachining method for glass, silicon, and ceramics, has a critical disadvantage in that the surface finish is poor owing to the brittle fracture of materials. Low-pressure waterjet machining can be applied to smoothen the rough surface inside the blasted structure. In this study, the surface roughness and sectional dimension of micro-channels are observed during the repetitive application of a waterjet to blasted micro-channels. The asperities and subsurface cracks created by blasting are removed by waterjet machining. Along with the surface roughness, it is found that the sectional dimension increases and the edges of the finished micro-channel become slightly round. Finally, a microfluidic chip is machined by the blasting-waterjet process and a transparent microfluidic channel is obtained efficiently.
This study compared and analysed ground vibration, size of underwater background noise in fish farms and underwater object noise of blasting and obtained ground vibration prediction equation through a regression analysis and correlation equation between underwater object noises in order to predict degrees of underwater noise in blasting and organize underwater noise control regulations. Before the study, when background noise of fish and shellfish farms with different conditions was measured, levels of background noise were different according to environmental characteristics of each farm. Ground vibration which causes underwater noise was measured to obtain a correlation equation between ground vibration and underwater object noise. Therefore, if underwater noise is predicted for each construction with a use of a correlation and permissible standards appropriate for each condition are applied for design and construction, financial loss from damages to fish and shellfish caused by development of insufficient technological and engineering logic can be prevented and successful construction with safety of underwater creatures guaranteed can be achieved.
In recent decades, the protection and vulnerability of civil structures under explosion loads became a critical issue in terms of security, which may cause loss of lives and structural damage. Concrete retaining walls also restrict soils and slopes from displacements; meanwhile, intensive temporary loading may cause massive damage. In the current study, the modified Johnson-Holmquist (also known as J-H2) material model is implemented for concrete materials to model damages into the ABAQUS through user-subroutines to predict the blasting-induced concrete damages and volume strains. For this purpose, a 3D finite-element model of the concrete retaining wall was conducted in coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian simulation. Subsequently, a blast load equal to 500 kg of TNT was considered in three different positions due to UFC 3-340-02. Influences of the critical parameters in smooth blastings, such as distance from a free face, position, and effective blasting time, on concrete damage rate and destroy patterns, are explored. According to the simulation results, the concrete penetration pattern at the same distance is significantly influenced by the density of the progress environment. The result reveals that the progress of waves and the intensity of damages in free-air blasting is entirely different from those that progress in a dense surrounding atmosphere such as soil. Half-damaged elements in air blasts are more than those of embedded explosions, but dense environments such as soil impose much more pressure in a limited zone and cause more destruction in retaining walls.
During the blasting process, a fracture zone is formed in the vicinity of the blast hole. Any damage that extends beyond the excavation boundary line necessitates the implementation of an additional support system to assure safety. Typically, fracture zone radius is estimated from blast hole pressure using theoretical methods due to its simplicity. However, linear charge concentration (kg/m) is used for tunnel blasting. This paper compiles Swedish experimental datasets to estimate the radius of fracture zones based on linear charge concentration. Further numerical analyses are performed in LS-DYNA for coupled single-hole blasting. The Riedel-Hiermaier-Thoma (RHT) model has been selected as the constitutive model for this investigation. The numerical model is validated against small-scale laboratory tests. Parametric studies are conducted to predict fracture zones in granite and sandstone rocks using two kinds of explosives, PETN and AFNO. The analyses evaluate ten types of blast hole sizes, ranging from 17 to 100 mm. The results indicate that granite has a larger fracture zone than sandstone, and the PETN explosive predicts more damage than ANFO. Smaller blast holes exhibit smaller fracture zones in comparison to larger blast holes. Wave propagation is more rapidly attenuated in granite than in sandstone. Subsequently, the predicted fracture zone outcomes are compared with the empirical dataset. Fracture zones of medium blast hole diameter align well with the experimental data set. A predictive equation is derived from the data set, which may be used to evaluate blast design to manage fracture zones beyond the excavation line.
In this study, several concrete-block blast tests and AUTODYN numerical analyses were conducted to analyze the effects of different stemming and coupling materials on explosion results. Air, sand, and polymer gel were used as both the stemming and coupling materials. The stemming and coupling effects of these materials were compared with those of the full-charge condition. Soil-covered or buried concrete blocks were used for field crater tests. It was found from the concrete block tests and numerical analyses that both the crater size and the peak pressure around the blast hole were higher when the polymer gel was used than when the sand and the decoupling condition were used. The numerical analyses revealed the same trend as those of the field tests. Pressure peaks in concrete block models were calculated to be 37, 30, and 16 MPa, respectively, for the cases of the polymer gel, sand, and no stemming and decoupling condition. The pressure peak was 52 MPa in the case of full-charge condition, which was the highest pressure. But the damage area for the case was smaller than that obtained from the use of polymer gel. Full-charge was also used as a reference test.
Variables influencing the free face movement due to rock blasting include the physical and mechanical properties, in particular the discontinuity characteristics, explosive type, charge weight, burden, blast-hole spacing, delay time between blast-holes or rows, stemming conditions. These variables also affects the blast vibration, air blast and size of fragmentation. For the design of surface blasting, the priority is given to the safety of nearby buildings. Therefore, blast vibration has to be controlled by analyzing the free face movement at the surface blasting sites and also blasting operation needs to be optimized to improve the fragmentation size. High-speed digital image analysis enables the analyses of the initial movement of free face of rock, stemming optimality, fragment trajectory, face movement direction and velocity as well as the optimal detonator initiation system. Even though The high-speed image analysis technique has been widely used in foreign countries, its applications can hardly be found in Korea. This thesis aims at carrying out a fundamental study for optimizing the blast design and evaluation using the high-speed digital image analysis. A series of experimentation were performed at two large surface blasting sites with the rock type of shale and granite, respectively. Emulsion and ANFO were the explosives used for the study. Based on the digital images analysis, displacement and velocity of the free face were scrutinized along with the analysis fragment size distribution. In addition, AUTODYN, 2-D FEM model, was applied to simulate detonation pressure, detonation velocity, response time for the initiation of the free face movement and face movement shape. The result show that regardless of the rock type, due to the displacement and the movement velocity have the maximum near the center of charged section the free face becomes curved like a bow. Compared with ANFO, the cases with Emulsion result in larger detonation pressure and velocity and faster reaction for the displacement initiation.

This research is about effects of obesity adults participating in 12weeks of boxing diets program on weight loss, blood pressure and blood sugar improvements. The exercise program was conducted three times a week with a maximum heart rate of 50 to 65 percent for first to forth weeks and 65 to 85 percent for fifth to twelfth. The study included 59 obese people in their 20s and 50s, with a BMI of 25kg/m2 or higher, blood pressure of 140/90mmHg, and high blood pressure and diabetes patients of 125 mg/dl per fasting blood sugar. The following results were obtained by observing the results before and after the boxing exercise program. High blood pressure, diabetes, high blood pressure + diabetes after 12 weeks showed significant weight, BMI and body fat reduction, as well as significant decrease in blood pressure and fasting blood sugar. Consequently, through this study, obese adults can lower their weight, blood pressure, and blasting fasting blood sugar through a 12-week high-strength boxing exercise program and it is believed to help improve and prevent obesity, cardiovascular disease and metabolic diseases.

Purpose: Surface damage and bonding strength difference after micromechanical treatment of zirconia surface are to be studied yet. The aim of this study was to evaluate the difference of fracture resistance and bonding strength between more surface-damaged group from higher air-blasting particle size and pressure, and less damaged group. Materials and Methods: Disk shape zirconia ($LAVA^{TM}$) was sintered and air-blasted with $30{\mu}m$ particle size (Cojet), under 2.8 bar for 15 seconds, $110{\mu}m$ particle size (Rocatec), under 2.8 bar for 15 seconds, and $110{\mu}m$ particle size (Rocatec), under 3.8 bar for 30 seconds respectively. Biaxial flexure test and bonding failure load test were performed serially (n = 10 per group). For bonding test, specimens were bonded on the base material having similar modulus of elasticity of dentin with $200{\mu}m$-thick resin cement for tension of surface damage. Failure load of bonding was detected with acoustic emission (AE) sensor. Results: There were no significant differences both in the biaxial flexure test and bonding failure load test between groups (P > 0.05). Sub-surface cracks were all radial cracks except for two specimens. Conclusion: Within the limitations of no aging under monotonic load test, surface damage from higher air-blasting particle size and pressure was not significant. Evaluations of failure load with bonded zirconia disks was clinically relevant modality for surface damage and bonding strength, simultaneously.
In domestic cases, the standard support pattern of 2-lanes road tunnels is presented because construction experience and high degree various data was abundant. But, it is not desirable to apply standard for 2-Arch tunnels that the precedent and measuring data is insufficient existing support pattern blasting plan and interpretation of separate way concerning specific terrain and rock quality. In this study, behavior according to load distribution ratio and Unsymmetrical Pressure about standard support pattern which is applied in design and construction of 2-arch tunnels was analysed and the examination of blasting vibration has influence on the center wall is conducted as a consequence reasonableness of support whether or not with presumed support pressure and ground reaction curve method. In result appropriateness of standard support pattern, support quantity is proper but considers specific terrain and rock quality condition when design and construction of further step 2-arch tunnel standard support pattern must be decided by considering terrains, soil properties and construction condition of the objective tunnel.

In fine-particle injection processing, hard fine particles, such as silicon carbide or aluminum oxide, are injected - using high-pressure air, and a small amount of material is removed by applying an impact to the workpiece by spraying at high speeds. In this study, a two-axis stage device capable of sequence control was developed to spray various shapes, such as circles and squares, on the surface during the micro-particle jetting process to understand the surface-shape micro-particle-processing characteristics. In the experimental device, two stepper motors were used for the linear movement of the two degree-of-freedom mechanism. The signal output from the microcontroller is - converted into a signal with a current sufficient to drive the stepper motor. The stepper motor rotates precisely in synchronization with the pulse-signal input from the outside, eliminating the need for a separate rotation-angle sensor. The major factors of the processing conditions are fine particles (silicon carbide, aluminum oxide), injection pressure, nozzle diameter, feed rate, and number of injection cycles. They were identified using the ANOVA technique on the design of the experimental method. Based on this, the surface roughness of the spraying surface, surface depth of the spraying surface, and radius of the corner of the spraying surface were measured, and depending on the characteristics, the required spraying conditions were studied.
