Converter has been slag produced 10 million tons per year in Japan. It is a steel making by product produced in the same way as the blast-furnace slag. Though blast-furnace slag is being used effectively as a concrete admixture, the converter stag has never been used effectively because of the expansion action of contained free lime and iron oxide. This is an important environmental problem in the steel industry. Beta-2CaOSiO$_2$(beta-C$_2$S) is contained 40 percent in converter slag, therefore it is very promising as a concrete admixture. We proposed an accelerated aging processes capable of stabilizing the converter slag in a short time. The converter slag is dipped into alkali aqueous solution after heating at low temperature. It was subsequently ground to a grain size of 75 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ , inner 30 percent of OPC. The properties of mortar and concrete using the blended cement were determined. As a result, it has become apparent that the expansion was reduced and long term compressive strength was increased while that at early ages was not so remarkable. The hydration exotherm rate was lower than that of the OPC.

Ground granulated blast-furnace slag shows very high strength when proper alkali-activator exists. This paper deals with setting time, heat evolution rate and the strength development of alkali-activated slag cement activated by KOH, Ca(OH$)_{2}$, $Na_{2}$$So_{4}$ , and alum(potassium aluminum sulfate). Alkali-activated slag mortar is studied by comparison with GGBF slag cement mortar. The experimental results indicate that for moisture curing at $25^{\circ}C$, the addiction of either 4% $Na_{2}$$So_{4}$ or 4% alum increases the strength of GGBF slag cement mortar consisting of 50% GGBF slag and 50% portland cement at early age. Strength of activated GGBF slag cement mortars at 1, 3 and 7 days exceeded that of GGBF slag cement mortar. A conduction calorimeter was used to monitor early age hydration.

This study is analysis of effect of binder types and replacement ratio on the properties of blast furnace slag mortar using the recycled fine aggregates. The results of the study were was follows. Compressive strength was increased according to an increase in replacement ratio of fine particle cement and gypsum. Absorption was reduced according to an increase in replacement ratio of fine particle cement and recycled aggregate fine powder.
In this work, the hydration behaviour of portland cement pastes containing fly ash, blast-furnace slag and silica fume is investigated by Impedance Spectroscopy(IS). As fly ash or blast-furnace slag was added to portland cement, the values of R$_{t(s+1)}$ and R$_{t(s+1)}$ were decreased in the early hydration period. It showed that hydration of cement containing blending components was slower than it of the reference cement paste with the same W/C ratio. However, the cement paste containing silica fume had a large value of R$_{t(s+1)}$ and R$_{t(int)}$due to very rapid pozzolanic reactivity of silica fume in the hydration time. In OPC-fly ash system, a characteristic plateau region appeared between straight-line and semicircle. The plateau region continued to grow in range with the content of fly ash and the hydration time.
In this study, we investigated the strength, shrinkage and durability of alkali-activated mortar using blast furnace slag only, and admixed with blast-furnace slag and fly ash as cementious materials in oder to develop cementless alkali-activated concrete. In order to compare with the alkali-activated mortar, the normal mortar using ordinary portland cement was also test. In view of the results, we found out that strength development, the resistance to shrinkage and freezing-thawing of the cementless alkali-activated mortar have better than the mortar using ordinary portland cement. Especially, using the combined with blast furnace slag and fly ash develop high strength of above 60 MPa, reduce shrinkage of about 40% and improve freezing-thawing durability of approximately 20%, but promote the velocity of carbonation of 2~3 times.
The development of reinforced-roadbed material in substitute for existing roadbed is necessary to protect its failure from the dynamic stress and vibration caused by the traveling of the high-speed and heavy trains. The water quenched blast furnace slag having potential hydraulic reactivity is one of the materials in substitute for soil reinforced-roadbed. We carried out the study of basic properties of roadbed material using Portland cement and CSA(calcium sulphoaluminate) as the activator for the evaluation of its application. As the result of the strength test, this material satisfied design criterion for reinforced-roadbed. Optimum mixing ratio of this reinforced-roadbed material was 15 ~ 17.5 percent of cement and 2.5 percent of CSA by weight of the blast furnace slag. Especially, as permeability is above $10^{-3}$cm/sec, this material proved to have functions of both reinforced roadbed and drainage layer.
This study investigated the compressive strength, flexural strength, setting time, and rebound when blast furnace slag and anhydrite, which are widely used mineral admixtures for concrete, are applied to shotcrete. When Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) was replaced at a rate of 10% with blast furnace slag and anhydrite, the initial and final setting time requirements were all satisfied. However, when OPC was replaced at a rate of 20%, final setting was delayed, revealing that this mixture was not suitable for shotcrete. Compressive strength test results showed that the mixture with 10% OPC replacement rate met the target strength at 1 day and 28 days for permanent tunnel support usage. Particularly, the mixture designed with OPC replacement by blast furnace slag and anhydrite at rates of 5% showed the highest compressive strength. Rebound measurements revealed that this mixture exhibited excellent performance with 23% reduction in the rebound compared to the shotcrete that was produced with only OPC binder.

In this paper, strength development of concrete using blast-furnace slag cement(BSC) and ordinary portland cement(OPC) are discussed under varius W/C and curing temperatures. According to the experimental results, strength development of BSC concrete is lower than that of OPC concrete in low temperature at early age and maturity. In high curing temperature, BSC concrete has higher strength development than that of low temperature regardless of the elapse of age and maturity. BSC has much effect on the strength development of concrete at the condition of mass concrete, hot weather concreting and the concrete products with the steam curing, which is influenced by high temperature.

Blast furnace slag cement(BSC) has many merits in relation to its prodution cost or environmental problem of these days, but it has still some limitation in broad use mainly because it has the lower early hydration strength than the normal portland cement(PC) has. In the present study, several different experimental concepts to improve its low strength in the early hydration stage were tried out which addition of the effective alkali activators such as Ca(OH)2 and limestone powder, fly ash in existing BSC. It was found that the addition of suitable quantity the effective alkali activators such as Ca(OH)2 and limestone powder, fly ash in BSC can be a possible way to get enough early strength compared with the PC and existing BSC.
