  • The aim of the research is assessing the possibility of recovering the compressive strength of the mortar mixture replaced excessively high volume of blast furnace slag accidently. As a result of the experiment, in the case of compressive strength, painting sodium oxide showed higher compressive strength recovery effect than painting calcium oxide. As a curing temperature, 20℃ showed advanced result rather than 65℃. From the wet curing, the reaction was confirmed, deeper penetration depth was checked at 20℃ than 60℃ temperature. Therefore for the concrete mixture with excessively high volume of blast furnace slag, it is considered that painting sodium hydroxide and curing 20℃ can recover the compressive strength effectively.

  • Recently, lots of studies for high flowing concrete have been suggested under practical use that it is only a way to solve the confronted problem. However, most studies have been concentrated on the manufacture method and properties of fresh concrete, but there is few studies for the durability of hardened concrete, specially for the freezing and thawing. Therefore this study is to investigate for the resistance of high-flowing concrete using finely ground granulated furnace blast slag to frost with experimental parameters, such as binder, ratio of replacement of granulated furnace blast slag, superplasticizer, curing method and blain surface area of granulated furnace blast slag.

  • The purpose of the study was to examine engineering characteristics due to fine particle cement and gypsum contents to improve early strength of concrete substituted blast furnace slag powder. The results were as follows. Above all, For fluidity, generally all mixtures had lower fluidity than Plain mixture and was not satisfied target scope, but for mixture substituted the gypsum showed a little increasing trend. For air content, generally all mixtures compared to Plain mixture had decreasing tendency. However, all mixtures were satisfied target scope. For compressive strength, long-term strength was better than early strength according to ternary blast furnace slag contents was increased. For complex mixture was better than individual use of gypsum and fine particle cement.

  • Recently, as the interest in environmental issues increases, the construction industry needs to recycle blast furnace slag, circulating fluidized bed Combustion fly ash, etc. to solve industrial by-products, and to develop artificial stone. In this study, the strength characteristics based on blast furnace slag according to the addition rate of alkali stimulant NaOH are investigated. The experimental results showed that the flexural and compressive strengths increased with the addition of alkali stimulants. Based on these results, it will be presented as a basic research data for the manufacture of artificial stone and will be tested later.

  • In this study, fundamental properties of high strength concrete containing blast furnace slag are investigated analyzed according to CBS-Dust replacement rate. As the CBS-Dust replacement rate increased, air content, fluidity and strength decreased, but concrete with 5~10 % of CBS-Dust showed excellent compressive strength in its early age. Therefore, 5~10 % substitution of CBS-Dust on high strength concrete containing blast furnace slag will have a positive effect on reducing waste disposal cost and improving the strength.

  • When the final finish of a building is designed with base concrete, complex deterioration occurs due to the harsh environment such as shrinkage and expansion due to external temperature changes, freezing and thawing, and the use of calcium chloride due to snow accumulation. Therefore, the pozzolanic reaction mechanism of blast furnace slag is clearly identified, and the causal relationship between the material properties and performance of the blast furnace slag is identified to present guidelines for mixing high-durability concrete.

  • In this study, the initial strength reduction of coal gasification slag fine powders was confirmed through previous studies when used in cement formulations. It is also confirmed that the blast furnace slag is mixed with cementitious coal blast furnace slag, which is similar to coal gasification slag, to incorporate gypsum in order to prevent initial strength deterioration. In order to analyze the reactivity of coal gasification slag by desulfurization gypsum, the formation of hydrates and their reactivity at early ages were confirmed by electron microscope. In order to confirm the reactivity, the gypsum samples were prepared with unincorporated type and 2% mixed type. Experimental results showed that 2% of the desulfurized gypsum specimens reacted more actively than the uninjured ones.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of fly-ash and blast-furnace slag on strength development and durability of ternary blended concrete (TBC) and ordinary portland cement concrete as fly ash and slag contents. Main experimental variables were performed fly ash contents (0%, 10%) and slag contents (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%). The compressive and flexural strengths, chloride-ion rapid permeability and chemical attacks resistance were measured to analyze the characteristic of the developed TBC on hardened concrete. The test results showed that compressive and flexural strength of TBC increased as the slag contents increased from 0% to 30% at the long term of curing. It considers blast furnace slag used when fly ash content was up to 10%. The permeability resistance of TBC(fly ash 10%, blast 30%) was extremely good at the curing time 90 days. Also, the effects of added blast furnace slag on OPC and TBC were increased on the permeability and chemical attacks resistance.

  • A series of experiments were performed to investigate the strength characteristics of concrete which contain air cooled blast-furnace slag as coarse aggregate. The slag is a by product of GISC. The experimental conditions are varied with three different W/C(45%, 50%, 55%) and the weight of water and S/a are constant. The strength properties of the concrete at 7days, 28days, 90days are examined. Also the same strength properties are examined for the normal concrete which contain river gravel and crushed stone respectively as coarse aggregate. As the comparison results of the strength properties, it was found that the compressive strength development of concrete containing blast-furnace slag is better than that of concrete using river gravel at early age, however this is adversely at long-term age, and the tensile and flexural strength of the concrete were not nearly affected by water-cement ratio.
