Distribution-free tests are proposed for AB/BA 2*2 cross-over design data based on placements introduced by Orban and Wolfe(1992). In this paper we suggest the homogeneity test or carry-over effects and also suggest the test for direct effects and the test for period effects under the same carry-over effects. The properties such as iterative asymptotic distribution for the proposed tests are discussed.

We have developed a new model selection criteria, the partial intrinsic Bayes factor, which is designed for cases when we select a model among a small number of candidate models. For example, we can choose only a few candidate models after exploring scatter plots. By simulation study, we have showed that PIBF performs better than AIC, BIC and GCV.

생물 통계학(biostatistics)은 글자 그대로 생물을 대상으로 하는 통계학으로 생물학은 물론 의학, 보건학, 농학, 독성학, 약학, 생명공학 등 생물과 관련된 모든 분야에서 다양하게 응용되면 그 적용 범위도 날로 넓어지고 있으나 저자들은 의학, 보건학, 농학 및 독성학 분야에 국한하여 통계적 기법의 활용 현황을 살펴보았다. 요즈음 모든 학문 분야가 그러하듯이 자연과학 분야 특히 생물을 다루는 분야의 연구에서 연구결과의 개연성 또는 재현성 그리고 과학적인 뒷받침을 위해서 통계적 기법의 요구도는 계속 증대되고 있는 실정이다. 필자들이 통계적 기법이 가장 많이 쓰이고 있는 이들 분야에 대한 통계적 기법의 응용 실태를 조사 연구한 결과에 대하여 의견을 나누고자 한다.

In this paper, we propose a interval censored regression spline model with a variance function (non-constant variance that depends on a predictor). Simulation studies show our estimates from MCECM algorithm are consistent, but biased when the sample size is small because of boundary effects. Also, we examined how the distribution of $x_i$ affects the converging speed of these consistent estimates.

Having previously presented an article entitled "Further approximate optimum inspection intervals" in this Journal, here the author derives an alternative set of general explicit formulae using Cardan's solution to a cubic equation and presents a modified heuristic algorithm for solving Baker's model. The examples show that this new alternative approximate solution procedure for determining near optimum inspection intervals is as accurate and computationally efficient as the one suggested in the previous article. Through the examples, the author also indicates the relative merits and demerits of the two algorithms.

The accelerated failure time model or accelerated life model relates the logarithm of the failure time linearly to the covariates. The parameters in the model provides a direct interpretation. In this paper, we review some newly developed practically useful estimation and inference methods for the model in the analysis of right censored data.
