Groundwater and animal wastes are typical example which are underutilized resources than their value in agriculture. This paper was to investigate the actual patterns of utilization of water curtain for greenhouses and methane gas utilization from swine wastes in a view point of promoting more efficient use of alternative energy. The results from measurements can be summarized as follows : 1.It was estimated that the maximum heating load per l0a was around 23,2804/hr and the heating load at January showed 3.93X 1064 respectively for strawberry greenhouses with insulation by the water curtain. 2.The average heating cost of the greenhouse with water curtain system amounted to about 75,000 Won per l0a. This result suggested that the greater cultivated area provides less heating cost. 3.The operating volume was about 73 percent of the optimum size of the digester. The net available methane gas rates of the produced gas remained close to 62 percent, But the conventional and small size of the digester was maintained at a lower level of around 20 to 29 percent. 4.It appeared that major problems of biogas production system were required to maintain the temperature of the fermentation above ambient temperature and the optimum volume of digester.
Methane (CH4) is the most abundant component in natural gas. To reduce its harmful environmental effect as a greenhouse gas, CH4 can be utilized as a low-cost feed for the synthesis of methanol by methanotrophs. In this study, several methanotrophs were examined for their ability to produce methanol from CH4; including Methylocella silvestris, Methylocystis bryophila, Methyloferula stellata, and Methylomonas methanica. Among these methanotrophs, M. bryophila exhibited the highest methanol production. The optimum process parameters aided in significant enhancement of methanol production up to 4.63 mM. Maximum methanol production was observed at pH 6.8, 30℃, 175 rpm, 100 mM phosphate buffer, 50 mM MgCl2 as a methanol dehydrogenase inhibitor, 50% CH4 concentration, 24 h of incubation, and 9 mg of dry cell mass ml-1 inoculum load, respectively. Optimization of the process parameters, screening of methanol dehydrogenase inhibitors, and supplementation with formate resulted in significant improvements in methanol production using M. bryophila. This report suggests, for the first time, the potential of using M. bryophila for industrial methanol production from CH4.
This study has cross checked the change of internal sludge-recycle in Anaerobic-Digestion, and researched about not only the improvement of Bio-gas production from the digested sludge but also the efficient method of sludge minimization. Ultimate object of the study is to reduce the amount of sludge by the improved efficiency of contact with the organic-matter and the microbes in Anaerobic-Digestion. The sludge-recycle fluidized sludge layer and raised the activity of the sludge, the optimal sludge-recycle ratio, VS and COD removal ratio were 1,000%, 28.2% and 27.7%, respectively. Through these results of this study, it may be of use to treat waste sludge by the sludge-recycle ratio in terms of minimization and circulation of resources.
This study presents detailed emission of greenhouse gases of using Clean Energy Agriculture System according to a cradle-to-gate life-cycle assessment, including emission from energy use and leak of Biogas. Calculations were done with the PASS software and the covered gases are $CH_4$, $N_2O$ and $CO_2$, Total GHG fluxes of amount to $1719.03kgCO_2/day$, $39.63kgCO_2/day$ (2.31%) are from facility house process, $0.19kgCO_2/day$ (0.01%) are from transport process, $696.72kgCO_2/day$ (40.53%) are from Anaerobic digestion process, $846.61kgCO_2/day$ (49.25%) are from Heating and cooling system, $135.88kgCO_2/day$ (7.90%) are from Fertigation production process. The results suggest that for effective reduction of GHG emissions from Facility house using clean energy. Reduction targets should address both the production process as defined by IPCC sectors and the consumption process. An LCA assessment as presented here could be a basis for such efforts.
In this study, microwave irradiation, which is reflected by metals, was used to reduce the amount of sewage sludge, and the results were used to verify solubilization efficiency and determine optimum operation conditions. Biogas production and methane content of the gas under optimized conditions were measured with the biochemical methane potential (BMP) test. The sludge was taken from a thickened sludge tank at J sewage treatment plant (JSTP) in Seoul, Korea. For the experiments, 50 mL of sludge was filled in vessels and the vessels were irradiated with the power of 500, 600, 700, and 800W for 2~5 min. In addition, Fe powder was added by 0.01, 0.05, and 0.1 g to compare the efficiency with and without Fe powder. The results confirmed that solubilization efficiency was higher in the presence of Fe powder. The optimum conditions of 0.01 g addition of Fe powder with 800W irradiation for 5 min, yielded nearly 22.95% higher solubilization efficiency than without Fe powder. The BMP tests were carried out using sludge obtained from the experiments carried out under the optimum conditions. As a result, sludge subjected by 800W with 0.01 g of Fe powder for 5 min displayed the highest level of gas production and methane content. Through this study, it could be confirmed that solubilization efficiency increased by addition of Fe powder.
This study focuses on the feasibility of bio-gas production using anaerobic digestion by measuring methane generation and biodegradability through the BMP test of industrial organic wastes. Organic wastes consist of entrails of pigs and organic residues of rumen generated from slaughter houses, wastewater sludge from slaughter waste water, fish offal and residues of vegetables from public wholesale markets, and wastewater sludge from the process of wastewater treatment in paper mill. The cumulative methane production by BMP test ranges from 149.3 ml/g-VS to 406.6 ml/g-VS and this is similar to methane generation of the normal wastewater sludge and food waste. As a result of measurement of biodegradability, wastewater sludge (S1 ~ S4) is low, ranging from 27.1% to 58.9 % and organic residues of rumen (G1) is low at 49.6 %. In conclusion, it turned out that raising the hydrolysis by various pre-treatments is necessary in order to produce bio-gas by using industrial organic wastes.

Cell walls of microalgae consist of a polysaccharide and glycoprotein matrix providing the cells with a formidable defense against its environment. Anaerobic digestion (AD) of microalgae is primarily inhibited by the chemical composition of their cell walls containing biopolymers able to resist bacterial degradation. Adoption of pre-treatments such as thermal, thermal hydrolysis, ultrasound and enzymatic hydrolysis have the potential to remove these inhibitory compounds and enhance biogas yields by degrading the cell wall, and releasing the intracellular algogenic organic matter (AOM). This paper preproposal stage investigated the effect of different pre-treatments on microalgae cell wall, and their impact on the quantity of soluble biomass released in the media and thus on the digestion process yields. This Paper present optimum approach to degradation of the cell wall by ultra-sonication with practical design specification parameter for ultrasound based pretreatment system. As a result of this paper presents, a microalgae system in a wastewater treatment flowsheet for residual nutrient uptake can be justified by processing the waste biomass for energy recovery. As a conclusion on this result, Low energy harvesting technologies and pre-treatment of the algal biomass are required to improve the overall energy balance of this integrated system.
Our lab designs a heat exchangers for air and carbondioxide gas. Coolant is water, thus it is very difficult to determine heat transfer parameters in this gas-liquid system. Repeated experiments gives overdesign value 35%, overall heat transfer coefficient $33.8(kcal/m2-hr-^{\circ}C)$ for carbondioxide. Another series of experiments determine overdesign 18.7%, overall heat transfer coefficient $21.4(kcal/m2-hr-^{\circ}C)$ for Air. These parameters are in same range of literature. Overdesign is increasing as tube length increases, also increases as wall thickness of heat exchanger increases. To get proper fluid linear velocity in heat exchanger, we change the diameter of tube and finally we can have optimum fluid linear velocity in the heat exchanger.
In order to make the best choice for $CO_2$ abatement using renewable energy technologies, it is important to be able to adapt these technologies on the basis of their sustainability, which may include a variety of environmental indicators. This study examined the comparative sustainability of renewable technologies in terms of their life cycle $CO_2$ emissions and embodied energy, using life cycle analysis. The models developed were based on case studies of bioenergy pilot plant in P city of Kyungki province. Final results were total emission of $CO_2$ in Pocheonsi is 670,041 $tCO_2$, around 500,877 $tCO_2$ for electricity and for heat generation, and 169,164 $tCO_2$ for transportation. When used $1,984\;m^3$/day of waste (pig manure etc.) and operated CHP with wood chips of 144,664 ton/year, the $CO_2$ emission in P city was left as is an emission of 449,274 $tCO_2$ and an abatement of $CO_2$ in this region was increased by 32.9%.
