Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore factors related to internet game addiction for adolescents. Method: This study was a cross-sectional survey, and data was collected through self-report questionnaires. Data was analyzed using the SPSS program. Results: In logistic regression analysis, the risk of being addicted to internet games was 2.22 times higher in males than females. Adolescents with low and middle academic performance also had a higher risk(2.08 times and 2.54 times) to become addicted to internet games. For the location of the computer, the risk of becoming addicted to internet games were .01 times lower in the living room or brother or sisters' room than in their own room. The risk of becoming addicted to internet games was 1.18 times higher in the higher usage time of internet games. The risk of becoming addicted to internet games was .49 times lower in the more accepting and autonomic parents' rearing attitude and .02 times lower in the high self-efficacy group than the low group. Conclusion: The result of this study suggests that there are noticeable relationships between internet game addiction and gender, academic performance, location of computer, usage time of internet games, parents' rearing attitude, and self efficacy.

With the increase of double-income families, parents are not free in terms of time and space in communicating with teachers. Also for teachers, with many students and heavy load of work, communication with parents has been poor. As a means for overcoming this kind of situation, this research examined the current status of communication between teachers and parents using SMS and problems to solve. The investigation of the actual conditions of SMS use showed that there was a high number of answers pointing out that SMS is needed for the exchange of information regarding children and educational activities, and teachers pointed out that the communication was effective for exchanging educational information regarding children whereas parents pointed out that it was effective in improving the children's attitudes. Based on the results of the analysis, the following was found as tasks to be solved: preparing a plan for revitalizing SMS use, solving the burden that parents have in communicating with teachers, becoming more friendly with teachers, investigation of the reason why there is no response regarding SMS and preparing countermeasures, providing information appropriate to what parents want, increasing the reply rate of parents, expansion of text capacity, and trouble with getting online with a computer.
Purpose: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has influenced the lives of people worldwide. Little is known about the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the behavior and fears of pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and their families. We conducted a survey to determine the COVID-19 exposure, related perceptions, and information sources; medication compliance; and patients' and parents' behaviors, fears, and physician contact. Methods: An anonymous cross-sectional survey of pediatric patients with IBD and their parents at one pediatric gastroenterology unit of a university medical center was performed. Results: A total of 46 pediatric patients with IBD and 44 parents completed the survey. Parents of pediatric patients with IBD had high fear of their children becoming infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. They perceived schools as the most hazardous environment, whereas the children did not. Half the pediatric patients with IBD feared infection. Patients and parents felt sufficiently informed about COVID-19. The primary source of guidance for pediatric patients was their parents (43%), followed by television and social media, whereas the parents mainly consulted internet news websites (52.2%), television, and public health institutes. Pediatric patients with IBD adhered to their prescribed medication. They also showed cautious behavior by enhancing hand hygiene (84%) and leaving the house less frequently than before. However, in-person medical visits remained favored over video consultations. Conclusion: Although parents expressed overprotective concerns, both parents and pediatric patients with IBD are coping well with the COVID-19 pandemic. IBD-relevant information should be actively conveyed.
This study examined changes in family relationship focusing on the experience of husbands after the birth of their first child. The research questions were as follows: (1) what social and economic changes are experienced by Korean husbands (2) how to reform the dynamic from a dyad to a triad relationship (3) how the relationship changes with the experience of parenthoods. The participants in this research included six men and the data was gathered through half-structured interviews and analyzed using Van Manen's analysis guideline. The results were as: First, there was a distinct financial change to stabilize the role of the couple. Second, the husbands' voluntary participation in house work was influenced by the couples' intimacy. Third, the enriching dialogue between couples was related to becoming parents. Lastly, after child birth, husbands felt less attraction toward their wives as women and the sexual relationship was almost completely controlled by their wives.
The purpose of the present study was to develop a structural model, of which the effect of parents' psychological control, depressive dispositions, and depression upon the self-esteem of adolescents. The participants were 458 adolescents recruited from high schools and universities (M age = 17.4 yrs; SD = 1.75) in Seoul and its vicinity. Data were collected through self-reporting questionnaires for adolescents. Firstly, we estimated the hypothesized meditation model which includes paths from parents' psychological to self-esteem through adolescents' depressive experiences and depression. Structural Equation Modeling analysis using AMOS revealed that the hypothesized mediation model yielded an acceptable model fit and all hypothesized path coefficients were found to be significant. Specifically, it indicated that the more parents try to exert psychological control over their children, the more depressive experiences adolescents have and in turn, they had a greater tendency towards becoming depressed and having lower self esteem. It was also found that neither gender difference nor age difference existed in the structural model.

Despite the fact that Muslims are fast becoming part of the world population, they are the least known group. Moreover, Muslims have been seriously misunderstood and negatively perceived because of several tragic events related to terrorist attacks or wars in the Middle East countries. In this light, the current study examined how parenting values and practices varied by importance of religion, gender, and generation, based on the questionnaire data collected from 312 Muslim fathers and mothers living in Jakarta, Indonesia. The most salient result of this study was that the religion was at the center of everyday lives. The importance of religion in their lives clearly translated in their parenting styles by engaging in religious practices with their children. At the same time, Muslim parents in Indonesia had a high level of expectation for their children's education and making happy family life as well as being faithful as Muslim. This study contributed to promoting cultural sensitivity towards Muslims by examining Indonesian Muslim parents' parenting values and practices.
