  • To increase the bit rate over than 1 Gb/s in LED visible light communications, we need to reduce the multipath effect of the light in indoor environment. In this paper, we propose a MAC protocol for LED visible light wireless LAN with beamforming technique. We assumed that spatial light modulator is used for beamforming function. We use polling method since detecting another uplink channel is difficult in visible light communication. We also estimated the performance of the proposed MAC protocol.

  • Various techniques for optimizing the performance indices of sonar arrays have been discussed, Maximizing the directivity or beamforming technique with constraints have been studied, however these performances are adapted on the condition of isotropic linear array. In this paper we discuss the problems resulting from application of conformal array by using previous techniques. Finally, we could get a desired beam pattern after use of the compensated weight vector to solve the problems.

  • The orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) technique is well known to be robust against the frequency-selective fading in wireless channels. It is due to the exploitation of a guard interval that is inserted at beginning of each OFDM symbol. Based or the conventional OFDM and a polyphase filtered orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (PF-OFDM) technique, we developed an adaptive beamforming algorithm for antenna arrays. The proposed algorithm would lead to an efficient use of channel, since it is possible to eliminate a guard interval and also easily suppress interchannel interference at the same time. In this paper, a series of computer simulations have been provided to show the performance of the proposed system.

  • This paper introduces the Hull Mounted Sonar Vertical Scanning(HMS Verscan) technique to overcome the limitation of target detection in short range shadow zone. Numerical experiments were done with the HMS Verscan taking advantage of the vertical beamforming technique for two-dimension hydrospace(range-depth). For numerical experiments, ray model and high-frequency monostatic reverberation model were used. HMS Verscan increased a sound pressure level at the short range shadow zone through reflections at the sea surface and seafloor. Inclusion of the boundary scattering improved target detection due to the sound reflected into the shadow zone.

  • There are many antenna array errors. They will distort the array beam pattern and result in an increased sidelobe level. A calibration technique is proposed for correcting the antenna array errors such as mutual coupling and unequal feeder characteristics. These are modeled as a matrix representing the interaction between the radiating elements. The matrix is estimated from the measured array response vectors. The antenna array errors are corrected by modifying the beamforming weight vector. It is verified by the electromagnetic simulation and experiment that the proposed technique reduces the sidelobe level and increases the antenna gain.

  • Random beanforming exploits multiuser diversity gain in static channels. Since the gain is restricted by the user population, some extended works have been proposed. Among them, a codebook-based opportunistic beamforming technique forms multiple random beams with small pilots. The technique however has difficulty in designing beams flexibly by the channel statistics. In this paper, we propose a technique forming the multiple random beams by rotating codebooks. The proposed technique enables the flexible design of beams so that multiuser diversity and beam selection diversity are exploited simultaneously with small pilots robust to the channel statistics.

  • This paper proposes a monopulse beamforming network to estimate a target angle in interference conditions. The proposed system estimates the target direction of arrival (DOA) with two separate beamformings for azimuth and elevation with a planar may. The elevation is extracted from adaptive beamforming in the azimuth direction and the azimuth from adaptive beamforming in the elevation direction. Unlike conventional monopulse beamforming techniques using complex correction formulas or a cascaded architecture of an adaptive array and a mainlobe canceller, the proposed system is very efficient from the computational complexity. The advantage is from fact that the monopulse ratio of the proposed system does not depend on the adapted weights. Moreover, the proposed system can estimate the DOA of the target even for multiple mainlobe interferences since it does not need my kinds of mainlobe maintenance technique.

  • This paper proposes the Focused beamforming to estimate the location of target residing near to the observation platform in the underwater environment. The Focused beamforming technique provides the location of target by the coherent summation of a series of incident spherical waveforms considering distinct propagation delay times at the sensor array. But due to the movement of the observation platform and the variation of the underwater environment, the shape of the sensor array is no longer to be linear but it becomes distorted as the platform moves. Thus the Focused beamforming should be peformed regarding to the geometric shape variation at each time. To estimate the target location, the artificial image plane comprised of cells is constructed, and the delays are calculated from each cell where the target could be proximity to sensors for the coherent summation. After the coherent combining, the beam pattern can be obtained through the Focused beamforming on the image plane. Futhermore to compensate the variation of the shape of the sensor array, the paper utilizes the Nth-order polynomial approximation to estimate the shape of the sensor array obeying the water pulley modeling. Simulation results show the performance of the Focused beamforming for different frequency bands of the radiated signal.

  • In this paper, we propose a scheme for MIMO beamforming for the backscatter communication using a multi-tag to improve the efficiency of energy harvesting and the BER of received signals. We obtain a normal channel information through a communication between the H-AP and multi-tag. The H-AP sets parameters for the transmission scenario of the spatial channel model (SCM) using the obtained channel information and generates a SCM channel information. Then, the H-AP transmits signals that have optimal transmission power to increase the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) to each of tags. Tags perform a backscatter communication with signals. The receiver performs a time switching technique of energy harvesting using backscatter signals from the multi-tag. Simulation results demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed scheme, and the harvesting efficiency and BER at the receiver is greatly improved.
