인공위성용 총방전 시스템의 해석 (Analysis of the battery charging and discharging system for spacecrafts)

  • A spacecraft power system can be divided into two types : DET system(Direct Energy Transfer system) and PPT system(Peak Power Tracking system). In a DET system employing the regulated bus voltage control method, the battery charger and discharger are widely used for the bus voltage regulation. The battery charger has two different modes of operation. One is the bus voltage regulation mode and the other is the charge current regulation mode. The battery discharger is employed to provide the power when the spacecraft is in the earth's shadow or the sun is eclipsed. The operating mode, charging or discharging, is selected by a power control circuit. In this paper, small-signal dynamic characteristics of battery charging and discharging system are analyzed to facilitate design of control loop for optimum performance. Control loop designs in various operating modes are discussed. Anaylses are verified through experiments.

  • Demand for electricity is increasing annually. Especially, the daytime demand grawth shows higher than any other time period. So the big difference between maximum and minimum electrical demand becomes another important problem to be solved. The Battery Energy Storage System is chosen as one of the solutions among the sevral methods. The purpose of utilization of Battery Energy Storage System is to improve the daily load factor. Also, Battery Energy Storage System may be used for the load levelling or the load shifting as well as the spinning reserve. Up to now, only the pumped hydro power plant system has been operated on the commercial basis, but this system has so many constraints such as site, environmental effects, construction period, ect. Being considered current electrical power situation the development of electric storage system is in need latly. Among the various electric storage systems, Battery Energy System is chosen with the top priority because it has sevral merits to cover such as the short construction period, the demand site installation, and the food environmental characteristics.

  • Recently, the mass production of Energy storage system (ESS) is actively perform around world. Energy storage system is a technique that stores power to energy storage device to supply energy into grid and load at peak-load. Therefore, the efficient energy management is available by using ESS system. The life of Lithium-ion battery is varied corresponding to the power usage, especially selected depth of discharge (DOD). The lifetime of battery is the one of the most issue of the ESS system because of its stability and reliability. Therefore, lifetime management of battery and power converter of ESS module is required. In this paper, the battery lifetime management method estimating residual power and lifetime of lithium ion battery of ESS system is proposed. Also, total avenue prediction of ESS system is simulated considering the total lifetime of battery.

  • 에너지 저장 시스템(energy storage system, ESS)은 발전설비에서 생산된 전력에너지를 저장하여 필요한 시점에 사용할 수 있도록 전기에너지를 화학적으로 저장하는 체계이다. 따라서 에너지 저장 시스템은 에너지 이용 효율향상, 전력공급 시스템의 안정화에 기여할 뿐 아니라, 이산화탄소의 감축 및 화석연료의 고갈문제에 직접 대응할 수 있게 한다. 이차전지인 납 축전지는 현재까지 가장 기술적으로 안정되어 있고, 경제적이며, 신뢰성이 있는 축전지 중 하나이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 납 축전지를 적용한 에너지 저장 시스템의 국내외 실증사례를 조사하여 사례별로 정리하여 관련연구에 참고하고자 한다.

  • This paper explained the application of a lithium-ion battery energy storage system to electric propulsion ships. The power distribution in electric propulsion ships has low power quality because of the variation in the power consumption of the propulsion motor. For proper operation of the ship, the power quality needs to be improved, and the battery energy storage system is used to solve power-quality problems. The simulation models of electric propulsion ship and battery energy storage systems are constructed on MATLAB/Simulink to verify the improvement in power quality. The proposed system is applied in various scenarios of the propulsion motor state. The power quality achieved by using the battery energy storage system in both voltage and frequency satisfies the standards set by IEC-60092/101.

Study on a Fully Electrified Car Ferry Design Powered by Removable Battery Systems Considering Domestic Coastal Environment

  • As increasing the international community's awareness of greenhouse gas reduction, the demand for eco-friendly ship fuel has accelerated recently. The fundamental aim of this study is to develop a new type of fully electrified ferry for passengers and cars considering Korean domestic coastal environmental conditions. Several technical difficulties are encountered in applying a fully electric propulsion system based on removable battery systems into a ship due to limitations imposed by the batteries' size and capacity. This paper reviews and analyzes marine environment regulations strengthened recently, technology trends related to fully electric propulsion vessels in each country, and Korean domestic coastal environments. We propose a new fully electrified car ferry design with a displacement of 400 t applied in Korea. It is powered by removable battery systems pre-charged in a safe inland charging station. The mobile battery system is developed to enable roll-on and roll-off using wheels. The characteristics of the ship motion are analyzed based on the weight and location of the battery systems. We expect our battery systems to be applicable to larger ships in the future.

  • 본연구는 독성물질을 함유한 납축전지와 NiCd전지를 대체할 수 있는 NiMH전지를 이용하여 철도시스템 비상전원용으로 사용위해 80Ah 전지를 병렬로 연결하여 160Ah의 NiMH전지 제작하였다. 160Ah 전지에 적합한 전극을 개발하기 위하여 3성분계의 전해질의 고율방전에 대해 평가하였다. 160Ah급 전지는 철도시스템 비상전원용으로 사용하기 위한 여러 가지 실험을 하여 평가를 하였다.

  • 최근 4차 산업혁명 시대가 다가오면서 휴대성을 강조한 IoT 기기가 늘고 있다. 동시에 배터리 사용량도 급증하고 있다. 배터리 사용량이 증가하면서 배터리 안전과 관련된 이슈는 피할 수 없는 문제가 되었고, 많은 연구가 이뤄졌다. 본 논문은 다양한 배터리 문제 중 팽창으로 인한 폭발 문제를 다루고 있으며, 저항 변화를 파악하여 배터리 팽창을 감지하는 시스템의 연구 및 개발을 포함하고 있다. 이번 연구의 핵심기술은 배터리가 팽창할 때 발생하는 부피 변화를 배터리에 그려진 전선의 저항 변화를 이용해 배터리 폭발을 방지하는 시스템을 개발하는 것이다. 또한 패턴분석을 통해 어떤 형태로 전선을 구성하여야 저항 변화가 많이 일어나는지 분석하였다.

A New Modularized Balancing Circuit for Series Connected Battery cells

  • The series connected battery cells are mainly used in high voltage battery pack application. However parameter inequality of each battery cell makes battery voltage imbalance problem. In this paper, a new balancing circuit utilizing converter scheme for the series connected battery cells is proposed. Proposed circuit offers easy control and fast equalization time. Moreover the circuit can be used in a practical application because it has high modularity and can operate during the charging/discharging cycle. To show its superiorness and effectiveness, the principle of proposed circuit is explained with computer simulation and experiment is carried out using lithium-ion battery.

  • This paper is proposed dual full-bridge converter to drive flow battery used battery energy storage system. The system which is proposed has additional legs at each leg to perform stripping algorithm which is necessary to drive flow battery system. The proposed system is verified by simulation.
